might have been on twitch or was a post by Adam Bradford (aka BadEye) that I read about the release sorry forget which one as listened to twitch dndbeyond vids and read a few forums here that were updated since last wednesday
There has been absolutely no word from anyone to suggest that the release would be on a specific date. They have been avoiding giving a date for a reason. A rumor is a rumor for a reason, and should be disregarded as such.
I am going to echo that I'd rather they wait and take their time. A well made polished product is far more important to me than getting something right now.
As far as they've officially stated, phase 2 will be out within the month of June. It was said during SoA. Now at this point, what I'm really craving for are some screenshots of their progress to tide me over until they are ready to release it. I just want more info!

End of June is next week!
There may be the odd screenshot escaping in advance, but no promises!
The staff team have said a few times that they're developing with a focus on this whole toolset working well on mobile devices, so the previous screenshots you've seen (like below) are fairly accurate. :)
I know I am really late to the game here. My wish list would include Volo's playable monsters. For example I play a Fallen Aasimar Warlock so it makes it a lot harder to find apps that support it. I also have the same problem as our Druid friend with the find familiar spell and my Pack of the Chain. The option to quickly switch over to them would be amazing.

I don't remember where it was posted but I distinctly remember seeing that other books besides the core three will be available either to purchase in their entirety or by module (e.g. you can buy just the Aasimar race separately) so I think that your wish is going to come true :-)
Will there be different character sheet templates?!
(or an API for such?)
They have been saying that the character sheets will be modular so that you can set it up however you would like and only have the applicable sections.
- Character level/stat history: if my one game ends, and I want to use the same guy in a level 10 adventure, it would be SUPER convenient to be able to lift his stats from that level instead of recalculating everything.
I'm with the many who have asked for various print options, as well as different variant sheets (different layouts, animal form/companion/familiar sheets, spell cards, table tents, etc.). I also would like a way to save and share characters.
I think the best way to address both of these would be to have some sort of XML export and import. That approach would also allow folks with the right skills to create and share their sheets (for online use or printing) using XSLT. The best of the XSLT sheets could be made available to everyone with permission from the developer(s).
And if the XML format is adopted folks could share the characters with other utilities (such as a VTT). You might want to look at other existing programs out there as a starting point for the format. For example, the XML format from HeroLab or Fantasy Grounds.
And as far as sharing stuff with DMs, etc., players could just export their characters and email/dropbox them to the DM for importing (until you have time to make a more elegant method of sharing). And save their own backups.
Care would need to be taken that later versions of the application can still import and (if necessary) update older versions of the XML files, though.
So XML Export and Import? Pllleeeaasse?!
I would absolutely agree with XML Export and Import.
I love Fantasy Grounds, and use it quite a bit; however I also have some live games as well. If there was a way to import and export my characters into a site for later use would be amazing and I'd subscribe in a second. Currently there is a site that is free that can do this to an extent, but it's pretty mediocre at best. So instead I find myself switching between Fantasy Grounds and using More Purple More Better's PDF sheets and just manually updating the two; hoping that I don't forget something as I do it.
Here are my thoughts in a nutshell about a character creator:
The ability to create Adventures League legal characters.
An Adventurers League log sheet.
The ability to export that character from DND Beyond to XML so I could later import it into Fantasy Grounds.
The ability to import a character from Fantasy Ground's XML file into DND Beyond.A Wild Shape sheet for Druids.
A companion sheet.
Unearthed Arcana options (for testing and just plain fun).
A general notation sheets.
It needs to be able to populate as much item information as possible from the DMG and modules. I constantly have new players at my table who don't own the books so they need to know what a Wand of Magic Missiles, Boots of Speed, a Bag of Holding, etc. might do.
An optional sheet for players that might include common information such as conditions, movement, challenges, etc.
A spell sheet with as much concise information as possible including the DC, what save, how long it lasts, how long it takes to cast, etc.
The ability to archive characters or review changes that were made to a character (so that I can see how they changed from level to level).
The ability to print a character out on my printer (for cons, local games, etc.)
The ability to change the font on the character sheet (this is just a nicety).
A way to share and delegate characters to other people (I'm tired of updating my player's sheets and they're tired of me not transcribing every last item they pick up.)
Essentially if you can't beat More Purple's PDF I'll probably just pass on using DND Beyond; it's just that good.
Another nice feature For campaigns would be to allow DM'S to share a character with a playerand allow them to edit the character, but to have an optional approval process for the DM to review the changes.
It would also be nice to be able to track changes to the character over its history similar to how MS Word's can track changes on a document.
Actually, something that would be cool, as a paid feature, is being able to use previous versions of DnD as well. It would be kinda cool to compare your characters now to characters then. (Not now, way off in the future)
I would probably shell out maybe 10-20 bucks for it? And that's if it's just the handbooks.
I really don't think they'll be moving onto any other edition. They used to have the Character Builder for the 4e, and to use this new builder would mean adapting the Phase 2 to it... And it doesn't seem to be an easy task, since both editions are very different. Other editions would probably work but, at least in my opninion, it looks very unlikely
Regarding a lot of summons, I know this isn't a rules thread, but not sure how the flexibility regarding house rules will be at this stage. FYI - RAW the DM determines the specific summoned creature some prior examples. But they have already stated house rules/home brew customisation is coming :)

One of the Mods posted that it will be out next week. So not too much longer.

By the way, are we sure that this will have a printable sheet or is this going to be only for devices?

Awesome thanks that awesome to hear!

Somewhat related: Will you have the pregen characters avalible to players and DMs?
