When I went to follow the links to spells, monsters etc from the description of what the beta phases entail, it asked me to log into Twitch. It so happens I had an account and logged in, but got some sort of error. When I used the back button (I am using the Samsung web browser on Android) I was then able to see the spells, monster list, etc. Is this going to require Twitch to use all of the features or was this some sort of bug?
I had to login with my Twitch account to access everything. This is a definite downside; I have an account because I needed it once for something else, but I wouldn't describe it as:
a) Something everyone will have.
b) Something everyone wants to use.
c) A system that should necessarily be tied to a game which takes place in the real world for the most part, where most people don't televise it. It sends a message of a lack of understanding of the culture.
I agree, that having to create a twitch account is not the best option. I did it because I believe in the D&D product line and wanted to help with this beta but I think long term they need to have other log in options. If/when they add a mobile app option I would definitely have an option to link to our google/android or Apple ID's for those that will predominately use the app on the phone.
Also A1Quicks makes some very valid points as well about why requiring twitch is not really the best solution. Especially B and C.
The easiest solution for users to understand is a separate account for D&DB than anything else.
It took me all of 2 minutes to create a Twitch account so I could log into D&DB, but some of my friends of play D&D with me aren't as computer savvy and won't understand why they need a Twitch account. I think you'll find this with a lot of pen-and-paper gamers.
It is a little odd that they used Twitch and nothing else. Even when a company owns one of the SSO solutions they usually include at least facebook or google.
I ended up having to create a twitch account just for this.
I definitely think they should expand to more options than having to use a twitch account. It seems really unlikely that most people are going to have that to log in with.
Offering third-party accounts is fine, as a rule, but requiring a specific account type (and a not-particularly-widely-held one, seeing as you don't even need a Twitch account to watch streams) rather than offering a few different options is a head-scratcher. With most tools I'd expect to see Twitter, Google and/or Facebook as options (and it strikes me as unusual not to have a D&DB native account as well, though I understand the additional workload required for that).
We at Curse, are apart of Twitch. All our sites going forward are using Twitch logins, as we start letting people merge their curse accounts into twitch
One possible benefit to using an Amazon account instead of Twitch: I could prove that I bought the hard copies of the books. If there were a way to link that verification so I wouldn't have to re-purchase content I already own, that would be ideal! It could be sort of like buying a game on Humble Bundle and verifying it on Steam.
Having other logins (like Google or Amazon) would potentially be cool I'm just glad I didn't have to make a separate account for Beyond only. At least I can reuse one here.

D&D Beyond is being developed by Curse. Curse is owned by Twitch. Twitch is owned by Amazon.

I reject your reality and substitute it with my own!
Jumping into this one too. While I personally have a Twitch account & was able to login instantly, none of my players from the group I DM do.
Giving other options would be ideal. As stated above, a Google account login, or Apple ID would be nice.
Agree as well. Please do not use Twitch for accounts.
I disagree, this is like signing up for a new service and using their single sign on solution, which is great. It doesn't mean you have to use twitch.

Alternatively, just make it linked to your Amazon account.

I would love to see google integration.
I upvote A1Qicks with whom I agree. I don't need another account on a website I don't use. They should just use Facebook/Google account instead.
I don't really understand the use of Twitch as the designated login. Are there plans to support streaming DnD through this website?

Hey guys,
We at Curse, are apart of Twitch. All our sites going forward are using Twitch logins, as we start letting people merge their curse accounts into twitch
I do stuff, sometimes.
I would also like an option other than twitch because twitch is blocked at my work, so I can't log in. Amazon or Google login would be fine.
