ENABLING CONTENT FOR YOUR CHARACTER
To use content from Book of Ebon Tides in the character builder, you will need to set the character preferences to include the Kobold Press source category (see the .gif below).
CHARACTER OPTIONS: SPECIES
Base Species. Some of the new subspecies included in this title have base species from other Kobold Press books. The following species have been added to D&D Beyond: Erina (Tome of Heroes), Shade (Tome of Heroes), Satarre (Tome of Heroes), and Ravenfolk (Midgard Heroes Handbook).
CHARACTER OPTIONS: MAGIC ITEMS
Actions on Magic Items. Some of the new magic items grant specific actions as part of their magic. D&D Beyond doesn’t currently support the ability to attach actions directly to magic items; we have included charges and associated spells where appropriate, but in the case that an item’s functionality is otherwise text-only, we recommend creating Custom Actions on the character sheet to represent those items.
Lunar Lances. This item grants an additional 10 feet to your reach when attacking with it. D&D Beyond cannot currently support granting additional reach to an individual magic item.
Additional Spells. Spells from other Kobold Press sourcebooks, such as Deep Magic, have been added to help support relevant items.
Shadow Grimoire. This item is a fabled item a unique rarity that allows for additional properties dependent on a character's level. D&D Beyond cannot support fabled items at this time, however to better support the Shadow Grimoire versions of the magic item have been created to correspond with the different character levels.
Shadow Realm Rules
Shadow Corruption. This corruption is measured in six levels that can impact player characters over time. Tracking Shadow Corruption and its effects on the character sheet are currently unsupported.
Shadow-Touched. Creatures that are shadow-touched may also have one of two new conditions: despondent and shadow thrall. These conditions applies unique flaws and impacts saving throws and ability checks. These conditions are unsupported.
First problem is the hyper link for chapter 2 and all the subheadings related to it in the contents page leads to chapter 1. Means you basically can't access the section on new player races
In chapter 3, Way of Prophet's class option Force of Personality is missing its level requirement. In chapter 2, I do not know if there should be images for the Shadow Goblin, Shade and Ravenfolk? Even less sure of the Sable Elf and Umbral Humans.
Thanks for adding this to DDB! It's very much appreciated!
I have found the following bugs:
The Powerful Build feature of the Shadowborn Bearfolk isn't applying a modifier to the character's carrying capacity.
In the character builder, you can select Darakhul (the parent race), exactly like you would Elf (the parent race). When you select Darakhul (the parent race), unlike when you select Elf (the parent race), you get the two subraces (Bearfolk Darakhul and Shadow Darakhul) and you get Darakhul (the parent race) as a third option. If you select just Darakhul, you get the parent race absent a subrace. This is not at all how the parent race/subraces are presented in Kobold Press products. It's not how parent race/subraces work in general for D&D.
Bearfolk isn't available as a species. On the listing for the product, it had Bearfolk as a species and Shadowborn Bearfolk as a subspecies (or whatever it's called). In character creation, however, Shadowborn Bearfolk are a full species and Bearfolk are not available anywhere. If you sort by species from the book, they just don't exist.
Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Bearfolk as a base species is not playable due to how species and subspecies function on D&D Beyond. Since Shadowborn Bearfolk is the only subspecies option for bearfolk the character builder defaults to it when displaying options for player species.

is there a list of the spells from Deep Magic that were added?
Hello, Base Shade Race doesn't seem to be selectable in Character creation. Base Bearfolk too. Just Stygian Shade and Shadowborn Bearfolk. Thank you.
Base Bearfolk and base Shade were not included in these books, so they won't be available until Kobold Press adds another book that includes them on dndbeyond.
Bearfolk was added with this book. And the book didn't include Base Erina but that has been added... and then there is the fact this very page states:

They also said this earlier in this thread about the Bearfolk base species, which is what I was basing my response on.

A workaround though is to create a homebrew race. As long as you own the Book of Ebon Tides, the Bearfolk does show up as a race template.

Thank you letting us know. This should be resolved.
In chapter 3, Way of Prophet's class option Force of Personality is missing its level requirement.

Alright, thank you for the reply.
is there a list of the spells from Deep Magic that were added?
There is no dedicated list for the Deep Magic spells in the book itself, they are just listed on the magic items that grant the spells.
My Shade character has a 0 walking speed. it seems i need to pick a living origin, but the builder doesnt let me.
Here's what I have found:
burning radiance from Deep Magic 1
searing sun from Deep Magic 1
become nightwing from Deep Magic 2
black hand from Deep Magic 2
black ribbons from Deep Magic 2
black well from Deep Magic 2
call shadow mastiff from Deep Magic 2
claws of darkness from Deep Magic 2
cloak of shadow from Deep Magic 2
conjure shadow titan from Deep Magic 2
creeping darkness from Deep Magic 2
dark dementing from Deep Magic 2
dark path from Deep Magic 2
darkbolt from Deep Magic 2
douse light from Deep Magic 2
dying of the light from Deep Magic 2
hide in one's shadow from Deep Magic 2
negative image from Deep Magic 2
shadow armor from Deep Magic 2
shadow bite from Deep Magic 2
shadow blindness from Deep Magic 2
shadow gateway from Deep Magic 2
shadow hands from Deep Magic 2
shadow puppets from Deep Magic 2
shadow step from Deep Magic 2
shadow tendrils from Deep Magic 2
shadow trove from Deep Magic 2
slither from Deep Magic 2
umbral storm from Deep Magic 2
However from the Staff of the Void says the following spells are from Deep Magic, but I can't find them in either book:
life drain
living shadows
maddening whispers
void strike
word of misfortune
Can you let me know what book those are from?
They are originally from Deep Magic: Void Magic, but I believe they should also be in Deep Magic for 5th Edition.

Much appreciated.
They aren't - I have them both.
