Since many of us did not see things fixed or a transaction happen within the last 24 hours, my hypothesis is that they tried and it didn't work which means something is still amiss between Beyond and Paypal. Either the original transaction or type of transaction they are trying to do is not working. Most likely behind the scenes they are trying to figure out how to go through with the transactions as planned and being told no. Either Paypal will relent or something else will be done to remedy.
WotC wants the money they have been promised and they don't want to screw this up any more, but something is clearly not working as intended. Given the number of people on here and the amount of money involved WotC are certainly working as fast as they can to remedy, but if the issue is on paypal's side then the amount of money may not be enough for paypal to remedy quickly.
But I don't actually know anything and I am just speculating which is mostly useless.
I wonder if they actually have two separate payment systems in play, one for physical and one for dndbeyond digital. Considering that people who paid with credit and debit cards are reporting issues as well, maybe its that entire payment system for physical that is having struggles.

I'd take a guess that it's auth related as well, but always possible it's something else like lack of funds in account on some of them.
1. If you haven't had that second charge attempt yet, that is currently as expected. The team is still working through those, so please continue to hang tight!
2. This has also highlighted some confusion about the purchase process, so we've updated our Pre-Order FAQ to reflect and give examples of what you experienced when purchase the Core Rulebook Bundle. That can be found here. The specific update is as follows:
For purchases made through the D&D Beyond Marketplace, your card will receive an initial authorization in the amount of the full order price, but will only be charged for the digital items and any Physical Items on your purchase which are not pre-ordered. Once the physical items you Pre-Ordered begin shipping to you (usually about a week before the official release so you get it in time), your card will then be charged for those items plus the shipping fees. Any discounts will be split across the payments based on their portion of the total cost. Tax is applied separately to each transaction.
For example: If you pre-order a Digital/Physical Book bundle for $59.99 ($79.99 with a $20 Bundle Discount), card will initially receive an authorization for for $59.99 + Tax & Shipping. The final charge on the transaction will be applied as $22.49 + Tax for the Digital content ($29.99 - $7.50 Discount). When the physical book starts shipping, you will then receive a separate charge for $37.50 + Tax & Shipping ($59.99 - $12.49 Discount).
TL;DR—The 'full amount' charge you saw on purchase was only an authorization, and you weren't actually charged anything at the time, so no double charges are happening with the charges being pulled as the digital and physical books are releasing.

I've been lurking this thread since the issue began, I sent a ticket within a few hours of the first canceled email, also used paypal, also got the update about reprocessing my order... I contacted paypal and after trying to explain what I needed they finally stated that authorization for the rest of the amount expired in July, about 1 month later. They said they can't do anything on their end and to contact the seller.
As of right now, no update about reprocessing or completion for my order but just thought I'd share that it definitely was an issue with expired authorizations. I've used paypal for so many things with no issue, I'm kinda stunned they have no fix for something like this on either end, like they didnt expect this to happen. It can't be the first time they've had preorders offered so far in advance. This has been fascinating to witness, haha.

Hi. Physical and Digital Bundle buyer here. PHB was canceled on September the 10th. The ticket was submitted that very same day. No response whatsoever. Yes, I checked my spam and junk folders as well.
I appreciate you giving us updates on the situation, but how it's been handled and adding this to the FAQ three months after the bundle was offered leaves a very bitter taste ion my mouth. I want to give you guys grace because I work for customer support and I can relate, but Jeremy and Todd going everywhere to promote purchasing the bundle and then failing to deliver the first book of three is an awful sign in a company that has been constantly fumbling the ball for the past year or so. I hope this is solved so we can get our hands on something we purchased. What's the purpose of a preorder if we can get our hands on the stuff we ordered?
This is incorrect. I have a debit from my PayPal account for the full amount. I was debited by PayPal for $67.47 to a Visa card, and $122.49 was removed from a standing PayPal balance. I don't know why this happened and not what you describe, but it did happen as far as I can tell from both PayPal and my banking web site.
I can provide screen shots as needed. If you attempt to charge me again it will in fact be a double charge. I'm sure that can be refunded later if that's what it takes.
1. If you haven't had that second charge attempt yet, that is currently as expected. The team is still working through those, so please continue to hang tight!
I'm not sure I understand this part. The only message I've received is the very first email telling me my order has beeen cancelled. I have received no further email about an attempt to fix things, and I have seen no updates on the customer support ticket I filed. Is this expected?
By the way, I want to say that I appreciate your updates here on this forum, but I have to agree with other folks that I would have expected to see more information in other places. In particular, I'm surprised that absolutely nothing has been done on my support ticket since I filed it. Even a brief message saying that they were working on things and would get back to me in N days would be helpful, as it would tell me that my ticket had been seen, and it would give me a sense of when I should check back to find out what's going on.
Like other folks have noted, I don't feel like putting myself through this again, so it's very unlikely that I would buy anything at dndbeyond.com that I could get elsewhere from this point forward. If y'all want to fix this, I think you need to change the way you're approaching this issue. You need to be more communicative and more specific about what's going on and what we should expect to see happen going forward If you need to pull additional customer support people in to help with this issue, you should do so, because right now I think you're losing potential future sales.
Well, we're on day 4 of this train wreck and I, with perhaps thousands of others, are in the camp of used Paypal and never received a second attempt email.
At this point, I'm under the impression that there will be no favorable outcome as this company continues to demonstrate an overall lack of care for the customer. If there was a modicum of empathy or concern, then they would release something official regarding acknowledgement and or a plan going forward. Since neither of these occurred, and all we've had is contact from a "Liaison" (No offense LT), I suspect, no favorable future outcome from this disaster of a product launch.
What really confuses me is that all of us that purchased this bundle, are very likely either DM's or aspiring to be DM's. Not many others would purchase a bundle with the PHB, DMG, and MM because there is no need. That being said, DMs are some of the biggest proponents in the development of new players. We are the ones who encourage people to try the game and are the people to guide those players and calm the emotions of frustration when they don't understand the rules. So, why WotC / DnD Beyond / Hasbro continues to shove it's head in sand and ignore the likely thousands of customers effected goes outside my understanding.
I suppose the real problem is all those pesky customers who stand in the way of their wallets.
How does WoTC view this method of billing as 'ok' and not a deceptive practice? To the customer when Marketplace presents the full discount being on the digital content.
If I go and add the PHB 2024 Physical Digital bundle to my cart I'm shown Digital regularly priced at 29.99, discounted to 10 and Physical 49.99. So to then actually bill me 22.49 for the digital and 37.50 for the physical is 100% not what you told me you are going to do and not the prices I, as a customer, agreed upon at the time of checkout. Sure, the end result is the same dollar amount but you'd mislead me and it has become apparent now that you're having to explain this billing debacle.
Edit: After a quick google search I kinda' feel like this qualifies as 'Deceptive Pricing' ... which is prohibited by the FTC....
Are you even reading what you are typing before you hit send? No one would empathize or sympathize with this post, especially as it follows me saying that frustration at the company is justified. This is just pure malice. Calling for workers to be terminated because they can't meet your demand on your time, personal attacks of people on the forums. This is well in excess of what would be understandable or acceptable behavior.
I wouldn't bother with them too much. They are clearly looking to be mad and well, no response from you or anyone else will ever change that position.
As for an update to my previous posts, the 2024 PHB hardcover is now shipping and I should expect it tomorrow. So it looks like the lesson learned here is to not use PayPal, which honestly there are so many reasons to not use that platform as a means of sending and receiving funds.
Hopefully, people will let this be "the final nail in the coffin" and be done with PayPal if they have any alternatives available.
Agreed on all counts and I am glad to see that you are getting a resolution here. Crossing my fingers for myself and many others.
Let us know if you get it by tomorrow! :)
Update. I officially have the new PHB in my hands. According to UPS, it was 3 days early.
we need more websites, media, and rediits to keep posting this.
Why?
We are not being oppressed or assaulted or victimized.
They messed up. They'll fix it.
Take a breath and put it in perspective.
They are here to troll and sew discord. By their past comments, they have obviously not purchased anything at all. And frankly, given that this thread is for actual customers, a Moderator should recommend they curb their harassment of people on the platform or else be suspended if not outright banned.
I wouldn't be surprised if they have submitted false support tickets to slow the response time to actual customers.

Yes, this is how it has been for me. Ordered it, full payment pre-authorized and since then I have been paying in pieces. First for all the digital stuff then the 2024 PHB hardcover as it was shipped. And now the book is in my hands.
I'd wager most if not all fault my lie with PayPal versus WotC given how smooth things have been on my end as a debit customer.
After reading eluviamaure's post, I decided to look back at my statements. It turns out I have similar, but somewhat different situation. Back in June I got a digital+physical bundle of three core rules, plus the DM screen and character sheets. The purchase amount was $214.95 (before tax), according the Paypal, I was charged $72.36 that day (currently, the amounts are lower in the Marketplace order history because the PH and character sheets have been canceled). My Visa statement reflects a $72.36 charge that day. I didn't think too much about it at the time, but I assume it was the digital copies (roughly $30 after the bundle discount), the DM screen and character sheets (another $35), and tax.
Basically, I want to make sure I don't get double charged when all this gets worked out (hopefully sometime before 2025!), should I open another ticket? Is there a way to add this additional information the original (as yet unanswered) ticket?
so i am seeing a set of 3 0.00 pendings from wizards on my debit, which is saved to my account as usual main payment option, though i used paypal credit on my core bundle physical + digital bundle order, with a 71.94 charge there June 18th the day ordered which has been paid off already
This is edited: I got the coupon and it correctly applies the discount once you put it in the shop. The email does not accurately display this and I assume the code is also usable for $5 in the future
So update. I paid with paypal I just got an email saying they couldn't process my pay and that I would have to re-order. They included discount codes for the book, the shipping, and a 5 dollar discount for a future purchase, within 90 days.
Question is, will this be done for the DM's guide and monster manual? Or will we go through this again?
I used my debit card only to pre-order the physical version of the PHB and the order amount was immediately deducted from my account. 11th of September, I noticed an attempt to charge me the same amount again.. Fortunately, I had insufficient funds at that time, so the second payment did not go through.
However, I later received an email informing me that my order, which I had already paid for, was canceled.
When can we expect a proper response to this widespread issue? It's been 4 days already...
Briefly throwing my follow-up onto the pile here: no word back yet, no attempted charges for the PHB that I can see.
Quick clarification: used PayPal, initial charge appears to be all three digital versions -- 29.99 each, minus 7.50 each = $67.47, plus tax -- so that makes sense. (I do want to stress that this was not an authorization though, it was charged and the money came out of my bank account. I did send a screenshot of that PayPal charge in my initial ticket submission, FWIW.)
Sounds like yeah, on my side, the PHB physical edition is the failed charge (math checks out -- $49.99 minus a $12.49 discount, so $37.50, plus tax) likely because the initial authorization expired, I guess?
This is a bit of a bummer though... one of the ways I justified this bundle was, in my head, this was going to be just a preorder of all three physical books at full price, and as a lil' treat, all digital copies would end up being only 10 bucks each. It's not a free digital download, sure, but it's better than nothing! But now, realizing that the discount was broken up in this weird way, it seems like it really could come back to bite a lot of customers.
Speaking for myself, I liked the special edition covers and thought it'd be nice to support the local store, but went with this preorder bundle because it seemed like a better deal. Now, however, while it's tempting to just say forget it and go to a local store... if I were to cancel my bundle preorder now, I'd still be out of pocket for the digital versions at $22.49 each, correct? 🤔
Because honestly... I might have just gone for the physicals one by one and skipped over the digital version entirely if I knew that this is how it would go. (Of course, I understand that if this hadn't happened, all of this would be a non-issue, but for better or for worse, this is the situation we're in.)
Thanks LT and best of luck to all on the customer service team in the meantime.

Does this book discount still come out to be 49.99 for the physical and 10 for digital?
At this point I'd really like them to say, "We can't send you the books as a part of this order, please re-order and BTW, we owe you $40 because we overcharged you for the digital content..."

No, it came out to be 37 for the book before taxes.
$37.50 is what I would expect I guess based on what LaTia had said about their questionable billing strategy here. @22.49 ea for the digitals and 37.50 ea for the physicals. So at least there's that. So presumably, they will make us all dump our physicals from our orders and maybe give us a discount code to get a 'physical bundle' at 37.50 ea (total of 112.5 + tax).
