What would a scroll of pedigree look like? What would be written on one? I'm wondering because I'm playing a Ranger who is Noble with a Satyr sidekick in a party of 3 rouges, all different backgrounds, and after abut 8 sessions I finally had to use my scroll of pedigree and finally reveal my background to my fellow party members. My character is the 4th of6 childen so I was just wondering what would be been written on my scroll.
It is a family tree diagram that shows how far back your noble lineage goes and who those noble households in your family are and if you are or are not related to any royalty.
It usually depicts the crests and names of said ancestors.
Whatever the fantasy world you're working in uses.
Personally I imagine a scroll of the quality that wizards write their spells on, with ornate writing and imagery using fine ink and writing/artist skills to lay out the lineage of the noble, then a ribbon through it, held in place by a wax seal stamped by whatever authority recorded and/or verified the pedigree of the character's birth.
It can just as easily be magical in nature, with some magical property that can't be forged.
It could also be a small army or retinue of armed men who announce your nobility and ask if there's anyone who wants to question it.
A typical scroll of pedigree would have your claimed family tree, with multiple seals of authenticity. Probably at least one priest's seal and at least one higher nobleman's seal. Hand written on high quality vellum, with calligraphy.
Another term for a “scroll of pedigree” IRL was a “patent of nobility.” If you Google that term you will easily see images of what actual patents looked like:
