Welcome to the Support thread for Dragon of Icespire Peak
The D&D Essentials Kit is a Target exclusive until September 3rd.
The physical box comes with codes to unlock the adventure Dragon of Icespire Peak on D&D Beyond. You can purchase the digital adventure separately on D&D Beyond on September 3rd.
If you find any issues/bugs with Dragon of Icespire Peak, please post in this thread.
Code Redemption can be done at the following link - HERE. If you have issues with code redemption, check the support article for assistance.
Sidekicks
The sidekick rules are presented here within the adventure. Within the system, they are presented as stat blocks which can be added to players character sheet using the options used for adding companions or wild shapes
You can add them to your character sheet by selecting the Extras Section > Manage Extras > Choosing the 'Sidekick' and selecting from either the Expert, Spellcaster-Healer, Spellcaster-Mage or Warrior
Levels have been provided as separate statistic blocks, and you can add them as your Sidekicks level up via the same method.
I'm not able to get the Sidekicks to function properly. I get to the Extras Section > Manage Extras > then there is a choice for Sidekick and also Misc. When I choose either, the Expert, Spellcaster (Healer), Spellcaster (Mage) or Warrior to not show up in a list or in the filter search area. I can see if I click on Sidekick, I can choose anything out of that list, but it won't allow me to level it, only adjust HP and some other info.
Were animals removed as a possible sidekick? They were warriors under the original UA article.
The version of sidekicks implemented in the Essentials set is a simplified version of the Sidekick rules presented in Unearthed Arcana and only includes specific sidekicks to enable play for groups with 1 or 2 players.
I'm curious why there is a Sidekick entry under Extras but the sidekicks from the box set use Misc.
You can find the sidekicks under misc, along with all of the other creatures. If you click on the Sidekick category of extras though, you are presented with a list of just the sidekicks to maker it easier to select.
Thank you for the information. Now that the limited version of the sidekick rules have been included in a printed product, it is correct to assume that the original UA article is no longer considered canon? My halfling druid was really enjoying traveling around with the white tiger cub that he rescued.
What about the other updated rules that are part of this box set, 1 on 1 adventures and the updated rules that are supposed to be in the box set?
The full rulebook from the Essentials Kit isn't reproduced on D&D Beyond, as it is pretty much the Basic Rules.
The 1 on 1 adventures (and updated rules) is the sidekick rules, which are included here on D&D Beyond, along with sidekicks that can now be added to your character sheet!

It's important to note that Unearthed Arcana articles are never "canon" - they are playtest rules that are available for the community to test and provide feedback on to help shape Dungeons & Dragons. Rules are only official when included in a published product.
The current UA sidekick rules are still in playtest and that hasn't been invalidated by the release of the Essentials Kit. It is my understanding that the sidekick rules are still being revised based on feedback and will likely be updated and then included in a published product.

is there no way to level the sidekicks past level six? Are the Spells chosen for the spellcaster sidekicks lock in or can they be changed?

Already turned in a support ticket, but I'm curious. Has anyone else had trouble with their Code to get access to the adventure?

To add to SK's comment.
The paragraph here details running the adventure for one player.
