Welcome to the Support thread for Explorer's Guide to Wildemount
If you find any issues/bugs with the content from the sourcebook, or using it on a D&D Beyond character, please post in this thread.
Release Notes
Explorer's Guide to Wildemount provides everything you need to play Dungeons & Dragons on the continent of Wildemount (set within the world of Exandria)—a land of war, betrayal, and swashbuckling adventure.
Please be aware of the following before posting in this thread:
COMPENDIUM: WILDEMOUNT GAZETTEER
The Wildemount Gazetteer is huge - so huge that we had to make each section of this chapter on its own page. As always, you can navigate to through the gazetteer from the table of contents, or by using the previous/next links at the top of the page.
CHARACTER OPTIONS: RACES & SUBRACES
To use content from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount in the character builder, you will need to set the character preferences to include the Critical Role source category (click the "spoiler" link below to see how).
There are several new subraces & variant races within this sourcebook:
Orc - we have named this Orc of Exandria on D&D Beyond, to differentiate from the other versions of the orc race that have been previously published.
Each of these can be purchased individually from the marketplace if you prefer!
There are also numerous subraces & variant races included that have previously been published in other sourcebooks. These are fully included with the purchase of this sourcebook: Sea Elf, Aarakocra, Protector Aasimar, Scourge Aasimar, Fallen Aasimar, Firbolg, Air Genasi, Earth Genasi, Fire Genasi, Water Genasi, Bugbear, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Goliath, Kenku, Tabaxi, and Tortle!
Aarakocra. Note that the wording of the Aarakocra feature Talons has been updated with the release of this sourcebook. The new wording hasn't changed the mechanics of how this feature functions, but has just brought the wording up-to-date and inline with similar features.
Talons. Your talons are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Hollow One. The supernatural gift of the Hollow One provides additional features that are added to a character, regardless of their race. This functions in much the same way as a character becoming a lycanthrope or undead and is not an option we are currently able to offer in the D&D Beyond character builder. You can however use the homebrew tools to create a copy of your character's race and add the Hollow One features to that for your own use. Please do not publish such homebrew.
The sourcebook states that the DM can consider allowing other spellcasting classes to learn some of these spells. If you wish to add one of these spells to a character that is not a Chronurgy or Graviturgy wizard, you can manage it one of several ways: create a feat that adds the spell(s) to your spell list and add that feat to your character through the character sheet; create a homebrew copy of your character's subclass and add the spell to that. Please do not publish any homebrew created for this purpose!
There are also several variants of existing backgrounds for: Acolyte, Criminal, Sailor, Sage, and Spy. All of these can be accessed through backgrounds page and the character builder.
CHARACTER OPTIONS: HEROIC CHRONICLE
The heroic chronicle is a system that allows players and Dungeon Masters to work together to build a compelling character story. It can also provide several bonuses to a character, outside of those normally provided by a background. The Heroic Chronicle is presented as a series of tables.
If your character should gain a feature/proficiency from the Heroic Chronicle, you should add it through the character sheet (click the "spoiler" link below to see an example).
ADDING A PROFICIENCY OR LANGUAGE
ADDING A SKILL PROFICIENCY
Items and Equipment can be easily added to the character sheet as well (click the "spoiler" link below to see an example).
ADDING A CUSTOM ITEM TO YOUR INVENTORY
Information from the Heroic Chronicle should be recorded on your character sheet by clicking on the NOTES tab and then the BACKSTORY tab below that (click the "spoiler" link below to see an example).
ADVENTURES IN WILDEMOUNT
There are four full adventures in this chapter - each on its own page within D&D Beyond. Access them from the table of contents, or by using the previous/next links at the top of the page.
All of the monsters and magic items that are referenced in these adventures have been included for you, as part of the purchase of Explorer's Guide to Wildemount on D&D Beyond, so you won't discover that you need to purchase other sourcebooks to run the adventures.
WILDEMOUNT TREASURY: MAGIC ITEMS
Some magical items, such as the Acheron Blade, can come in a variety of types. In this case, any sword. All of these are available for you to add to your character through the EQUIPMENT tab.
Magic Items with Actions: Some magic items grant your character one or more actions that they can take, such as the Arcane Cannon. These can be represented on your character sheet by adding custom actions (click the "spoiler" link below to see an example).
Note: The Vox Seeker magic item is actually a monster stat block while in use - please use the vox seeker monster stat block, which can be added to your character sheet via the extras tab.
WILDEMOUNT TREASURY: VESTIGES OF DIVERGENCE & ARMS OF THE BETRAYERS
These sections present rules for powerful magical treasures that grow in strength with the character, unlocking additional powers as they become "awakened" and finally reaching an "exalted" state.
To represent this, we have created three versions of each of these magical treasures, one for each state: dormant, awakened, and exalted. Just add the correct version to your character sheet through the EQUIPMENT tab.
Note: The Hide of the Feral Guardian allows the user to polymorph into a giant owl, polar bear, or guardian wolf, which can be added to the extras section of the character sheet for easy reference. The guardian wolf is a new stat block which has been added as a monster to facilitate this.
Known issue: The Grimoire Infinitus includes a feature that adds extra spells to the maximum amount a Wizard can prepare. Currently we are unable to model this on the character sheet for the item.
WILDEMOUNT BESTIARY
There are many new monsters introduced within this chapter, and also within the adventure chapters. They are all available for use as individual statblocks in the D&D Beyond system, whether using them in the encounter builder, or just searching via the monsters page.
The Skyship is an equipment item, in the same way that vehicles in the Player's Handbook are equipment too.
VEHICLES
Explorer's Guide to Wildemount includes a pretty unique vehicle in the adventure, "Dangerous Designs". The vehicle doesn't fully follow the vehicle rules presented in previous books, so has presented some design challenges for us currently. We hope to have it available for you in the vehicles section as soon as we can.
Note: The Hide of the Feral Guardian allows the user to polymorph into a giant owl, polar bear, or guardian wolf, which can be added to the extras section of the character sheet for easy reference. The guardian wolf is a new stat block which has been added as a monster to facilitate this.
Is the guardian wolf marked as "basic rules" content (and thereby freely accessible) to make it so people who buy just the magic item standalone are able to access that statblock? (Or is that unintentional?)
EDIT: I see the same is true of this magic item as well:

Hey V2! It is not unintentional. Thanks for bringing it up, though!
Also, all the mundane equipment links in the top post here (e.g. black sap, blasting powder) seem to display their content in the tooltips, but trying to click on the links just gives me a "Not found" error.
I don't own the book (yet ;)), but it doesn't redirect to the Marketplace either like all the other links to new stuff in the post do. From what I know of stuff like the yklwa and insect repellent-incense) from Tomb of Annihilation, all nonmagical equipment is generally freely accessible even without owning the book, presumably due to technical limitations... I know similar issue occurred earlier with the poisons in Infernal Machine Rebuild, but was fixed. Is that same issue happening again here?
Or am I just getting impatient and pointing out an issue that'll be fixed by the time the rollout is done? :)
Small sourcebook display issue: when viewing "What's in this book" on the mobile app, there is no small preview for the map, just a "View high res" button. The high res version is also not high enough to make out the smaller text.
Minor thing: the new languages of Zemnian, Marquesian, and Naush do not seem to be selectable as they would be listed in the "Welcome to Wildemount" section of the book under "Daily Life in Wildemount."
Hey all, just letting you know that we're nearly finished with release tasks - the issues reported above that we haven't responded to are included in that (like the items).
I bought the compendium version but I cannot find any details on the dragonborn subrace anywhere. All links for it take me to normal dragonborn page where no subraces are listed. Same for the character builder
Edit: Wait compendium is the book but no inbuilt options? That seems a bit counter-intuitive to me. I wanted it the other way around, no PDF but inbuilt...

This is the info on Dragonborn variants in the compendium.
With regards to the character builder, please note the description of "compendium only" on the marketplace page:
The Compendium Content bundle does not grant access to all the content’s options in the rest of the toolset, such as the searchable listings, character builder, or digital sheet.
Yeah my bad for some reason I thought the "compendium option" was just a collection of all the previous smaller purchases without getting all the setting info on the pdf. Is there an option like that you can buy? I don't plan on DMing the setting but like the new player options.

Hey there! Please reach out to our Support team, they'll be able to assist you. :)
You can buy player options individually or bundled (all races, all subclasses, etc.) in the Marketplace. Each book has these options available!

Are the new dunamancy spells suppose to be locked behind the new wizard subclasses only? I can’t seem to select them for Magic Initiate nor as spells as an Eldritch Knight

That's correct - please see the first post in this thread. The rules for the new spells state:
This section presents a sampling of spells developed through the manipulation of dunamis. These spells are available to the wizard subclasses previously mentioned in this chapter, as well as other spellcasting classes with the Dungeon Master’s consent
The hide of the feral guardian has two instances of “tooltip not found” in the mobile app (iOS 13.3.1). In the last bullet point before the stat block and at the top of the stat block in place of the creature’s name.
I get from the posts at the top of the thread that this is some sort of wolf, but still an error with the text.

Just checked the book on the DDB site on mobile browser and the tool tips work fine there. This appears limited to the mobile app.

The alignment section for the Orc of Exandria refers to the Orc of Eberron.

Volstruker Agent background has a typo in personality traits:
I laugh off insults and never take them pesonally.
Are the new dunamancy spells suppose to be locked behind the new wizard subclasses only? I can’t seem to select them for Magic Initiate nor as spells as an Eldritch Knight
That's exactly how it is spelled in the sourcebook, though I think you're right, it's a typo, so I have gone ahead and fixed that.
That's correct - please see the first post in this thread. The rules for the new spells state:
