Hi, I'm only a couple months into my first campaign so I'm pretty new at this. I want to unlock the Battle Master archetype for my level 4 fighter character, and I see that I need to purchase content from the Marketplace to do so, but the "Looking for something not in the list below? Unlock all official options in the Marketplace" link just brings me to the Marketplace front page. [suggestion to the website builders, if you make the links more specific you'll probably get more purchases!] So which one do I need to buy? Or is there a tier subscription (I only have a free account) that would unlock it and give me more value overall?
For context, I have a physical Player's Handbook and that's how I've been playing the battle master up till now, but the online character sheet is SO USEFUL and I'm tired of not having the battle master stuff be integrated.
I'm having the EXACT same problem - except I purchased a subscription and it is still asking me to "unlock all official options in the marketplace". I have contacted support twice and nobody has got back to me.
Subscriptions do not give you access to content. I think the bit on the subscriptions page about 'Purchase and Use Official Content in Toolset' is a little confusing, but note that that's available to free users. You don't get more content by subscribing (compare to the part of the chart showing how many characters you can make: 6 vs unlimited).
Knowing that the Battlemaster is in the PHB, since you have the print copy, what you would need to do is go to the Marketplace, click on Sourcebooks in the sidebar, and scroll or search for the PHB. From there you can either add the whole book to your cart, or click on the title and scroll down to add just that subclass (or the subclass bundle) to your cart.
It's not as straightforward as it could be, I agree. Especially frustrating is that they have a search function, but not on the landing page (which is for featured items) and it only searches the name of the book. Doesn't help if you don't know what book something's in! I'm hoping this will improve eventually. Currently it's 'easier' to search the site in general and hope that the search results turn up a compendium entry, so you can see from the stub what book something is from. I want to say someone may have made a post one time breaking down what subclasses are from what source, but I didn't see it at a (very) quick glance.
Thank-you very much for explaining this! Wow I feel like I never would have found that out and I've been searching for a while now. Kinda feeling a bit ripped off though as I've bought something I don't need. Its so vague as to how to do that for a beginner like myself. Much appreciated! :)
Actually, in subscription it says "unlimited characters" not "unlimited number of characters". So this can be interpreted in two different ways. Also, when you click on the "unlock official content in the marketplace" it does not take you to the exact page you need to do this or in any way explain how this can be done.
@paladin54 Woahhh that's exactly what I needed, thank you! I had no idea I could buy individual items.
The nice thing also is that if you decide to buy the whole PHB later what you paid for the individual stuff goes towards the price so you don't have to pay twice.
Sharing is enabled and the PHB 2014 is shown in the shared content but i still cant choose battle master. I thought battle master was included in PHB
It is.
Are you making a fighter from the 2024 rules? If nobody's sharing the new PHB in your group, but you make the fighter from the free rules, then you won't see the old battlemaster because there's an updated version. You'll have to use the 2014 base fighter.
How do you change it from the 2024 rules, back to the 2014 rules? I just joined a friends campaign and he has all the books except for the new players handbook. So Im guessing that is the issue.

It's in the PHB. So you need to buy the PHB here at DDB or just the Battle Master

It tells us point blank what is included with a subscription right on the page where they can be purchased.

I can't find where you can buy individual parts. Only the whole book.
Can’t buy individual parts anymore. WotC got greedy.

Do I still need to buy the PHB to access battlemaster even though im in a campaign that has shareable content?
If the campaign has sharing enabled, and somebody in it has battlemaster, then you can make a battlemaster in the campaign.

Turn on the legacy toggle. The old classes will show up below the new
