When and where are we able to use the new character sheets. I've got the book and updates on beyond but how do I make my characters with the new sheets other than on roll20?
So we don't get to download our characters on this new sheet that is in the new PHB? Then why even have it in there? Other then the physical purchase of them. Kinda of a half a$$ release if you ask me.

There's a sample character sheet in the Player's Handbook for those that only have physical resources and need to play with paper/pen. This allows them to copy and print it for tabletop use. If you use digital character sheets, you most likely use the one used by DnD Beyond, Roll20, or a spreadsheet of your own design.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.
I gotchya. I just thought we would have an option to change the style of the sheets when you download the pdf's with the 2024 version being out. I use beyond to create characters (store my players info) then I just download it and hand them out. Saves time rewriting all that info and having to erase pencil marks every time. We imbrace digital but were not 100% there, yet.
You can download print versions of the new character sheets, although I'm not aware of any official form-fillable version, although the ENWorld forums have created a couple form-fillable versions:
This was something I was looking forward to as well. After playing a 2024 trial game at my local store, I was looking forward to having the new sheet on DnD Beyond since I really liked how they categorized the checks by ability modifier. I also think it would be great for there to be an option to switch. It really doesn't seem that hard to code the html5/css for it. It's sad that they haven't.
I've had to do WAY too much looking for a character sheet when it should be ONE click on the website! Especially since there is only the sample guide in the PHB and not one to copy from which was fine but I figured all I had to do is look on the D&D site. I can tell you this there are going to be A LOT of parents and teens now through the holiday season looking for it so hopefully they'll remedy it SOON. We shouldn't have to go to ENworld or Roll 20. Its D&D!
Seconded. I'm sure it's a lot of programming, but having the DDB sheet (both digital and Export PDF) match the book's sheet would be nice for visual continuity.
I will be running a game tomorrow. I plan on asking my players what they think. I will post their opinion here. If you are a DM ask your players what they think Perhaps if we get enough positive response it might get DD beyond to update the sheets soner.
My table much prefers the newer layout. It's more straightforward and saves new players at the table peace of mind looking at themes for their skills rather than reading an overwhelming list.
Yeah the new sheets are much more streamlined in a way that I think will allow players to not only more easily find stats, attacks and abilities, but also easier to learn what skills are associated with which of the 6 abilities
I agree. I would like the option to pick which character sheet that is used for export to PDF (2014 vs 2024). Also, I would like the PDF to include the character portrait that I added and print in color.
I ran session today. I have 6 players in this group. Gave each of the players a copy of the 2024 sheets. All the players really liked the 2024 sheets. They all felt that the layout was better and that it will be easier to find the information they need on the sheet. I also like the idea of being able to have he character portrait on the printed sheet. My players use a combination of electronic and paper at the table.
I just ran our first session with the new sheets. they liked them but being fairly new players they didnt like that there wasn't enough room for all there spells disciptions. I can work around it with just adding description sheets with it but a full set and character specific sheets would be awesome. maybe when everything is fully released next year they'll get.

There aren't any "new sheets".
There are new versions of the classes, which are the only ones you see if you don't have the legacy toggle turned on

Obviously, it's not as convenient as "save character sheet," though.

Is there any news if they ever will?
None that I have found. Probably after all the 2024 core books are out I'm guessing.

In the My Characters menu on the DnD Beyond site, there is a link to download a blank pdf of the new character sheet
will they be updating the DDB sheet to match the new character sheet layout/look?
I really hope so! I haven't heard anything but this NEEDS to happen before the DMG comes out!

Everyone i've spoken to in our extended group prefers the old 2014 character sheets.

Just putting that out there as one data point
