I had one of my players create a character In D&D Beyond using just The Lord of the Rings RPG source. We ran into a couple of issues. Do to the modification of some of the skills in The Lord of the Rings RPG you cannot fully create a character using D&D Beyond. It looks like I will have to manually setup the modified skills which I feel I shouldn't have to do since they should be part of the source. Also, when finished, there needs to be an option for the character sheet to be displayed using The Lord of the Rings RPG character sheet, not the default D&D due to the skill differences, shadow system, and Fellowship system. Are these issues something that will be addressed in a future update? Is there maybe something I am missing?
You haven't missed anything. Hunting, Old Lore, Exploration, and Travel don't exist as Skill options as part of character creation in D&DBeyond and they appear to still be manual adds. As far as the LotR-RP character sheet being the final result, that should absolutely be the case. Guess we'll have to wait (though they were quick to take the cash).
I will add to this by echoing the same concerns. I just purchased the content through D&D Beyond and created a character to test out how it would work in preparation for a campaign I plan on running. I am unsatisfied with the skills missing. I am unsatisfied by the inability to hide skills. I am unsatisfied with not having a specific location to record the points from the shadow system and fellowship system. This feels like a cash grab to capitalize on the content created by Free League and is disingenuous of what was advertised. It would be easier to create a character using these rules on pen and paper.
It would be great if there was functionality to only use the Free League content for character creation that would enable all of these options. As it stands, I would not recommend purchasing a digital copy of this material through D&D Beyond. My displeasure is not related to the content of the book at all, and I think that the altered rulesets work really well to run a game set in LOTR. Rather, the specific implementation of the content done by D&D Beyond does not meet my expectations.
No where in the promotional material that was presented, did it ever say that you manually had to add and subtract the skills and conditions that are part of the LotR-RP source book to even have it be usable. This is what it said -
The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying adapts the award-winning The One Ring™ roleplaying game for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS.
Not fully adapted in D&D Beyond.
Create characters inspired by your favorite heroes..
Can not create characters using the purchased digital content without manually adding content that should have been added in D&D Beyond.
....full-color volume contains 240 pages of everything you need to create exciting adventures set in Middle-earth™.
Can't fully create a LotR-RP character in D&D Beyond.
and the kicker,
What's inside?
A complete game fine-tuned to evoke the themes and mood of the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, the volume presents six original heroic cultures from the land of Eriador, six new classes, a host of terrifying adversaries, and comprehensive rules for adventuring, wondrous artefacts, and the subtle magic of Middle-earth.
It's not fine-tuned in D&D Beyond.
All of these statements are true for the book if you were just using that at your table. I own the books. I purchased them from Free League awhile ago. I purchased this content on D&D Beyond to be able to run this online. It is supposed to be fully integrated with D&D Beyond, that is why they are offering it through D&D Beyond. They added the species. They added the classes and backgrounds for those classes. They did a lot. I will give them that. But then they stopped before modifying the skills? What about just even giving you the option or ability to export/print your character sheet on the included LotR-RP character sheet?
If you are okay with a half finished product then it's a good purchase. As of right now, I find it unusable in it's current state which I would call early access if I knew they were still working on it. I purchased this expecting a finished product which it is not.
I guess I am the idiot because I read between the lines thinking this meant with D&D Beyond since it was meant for me to purchase it on D&D Beyond.
For those of you interested, out of interest I created 'Homebrew' versions of the Callings for a game in Moria I was running last year, but as we all know dealing with Homebrew is very time-consuming!
It sounds like they haven't fixed the issues with the Character Builder, so it looks like you still have to use Homebrew for a proper copy of the pen & paper character sheet!
I had high hopes for this adaptation, but I should have waited for more reviews before purchasing it.
It is already extremely difficult to restrict or customize content within a character sheet or campaign - I had really hoped that this product would have come along with some improvements to that system. I am a long time customer, but paying for all of these digital tools really starts to sting when I keep finding it to be so much easier to use pen and paper to achieve my goals.

I know it's a pain but you can add the skills to the character sheet before you select skills during character creation. The same with the conditions.

Super disappointing that the Lord of the Rings RPG is not properly adapted
