Just to reiterate how easy this is to add alternate weapon attacks or custom actions for different things
Here's how I've set up a GWM Masterwork Glaive (homebrew +1 to hit only):
Adding a button to roll Second Wind, and adding cute emojis:
Got some superiority dice from something?
I wish I could thank this post twice.

Hello Halfwing, has this 4+ year discussion been given ANY sort of task assignment on the development pipeline? Please, many people are expressing and have expressed their distress with getting basic functionality for + HIT/DC on character sheets. Having to skirt around by making magical items to be able to create custom actions for Druid Wild Shapes shouldn't be a concern with how much time this thread has been up.
I wish your reply had at least mentioned anything regarding this.
And yet, there doesn't seem to be a way to handle Sharpshooter (and I'd guess GreatWeapon Master) feats that require a -5 to hit. I can add the +10 Damage (or at least I think I can - since a normal shot is 1d8+3 (for me at current level/attributes) and if I set fixed to 10 I get 1d8+13. There is however no way to fix the -5 to hit.
Sure there is. In the “To Hit Bonus” field that I highlighted in red in the image above, just enter -5 into that field use the - on the regular keyboard, not the one on the numberpad. It’ll apply the -5 to hit penalty and the +10 damage bonus if you set both at the same time. That’s precisely how I handle both SS and GWM on my character sheets. I also set the superfluous weapon in a container labeled “🚫 Convenience Hacks” and it sits down at the bottom of my character’s inventory out of sight and without getting accounted for in terms of encumbrance since I simply don’t “equip“ that container.
So I'm trying to customize the infiltrator armorer lightning launcher to get a +1 bonus from the enhanced weapon infusion, and then add the sharpshooter "power attack" to it. If I create a custom attack action, I cannot modify the to hit bonus at all. So I create a shortbow, +1, and modify the hit bonus to -3 (-5 + 2 missing int bonus) and damage bonus to +12 (+10 +2 from missing int bonus). Works great.
Now how do I change the weapon range? I can change it with custom attack action but not when modifying the weapon. I'm not honestly expected to create a brand new custom weapon just to change the range to 90/300, am I?
Now how do I change the weapon range? I can change it with custom attack action but not when modifying the weapon. I'm not honestly expected to create a brand new custom weapon just to change the range to 90/300, am I?
I have yet to find a way to create a custom action for a Sharpshooter (-5+10) AND a Sneak Attack with a modified weapon (A Vicious Hand Crossbow with a +1 bonus). I can do the modified weapon and I can do the Sharpshooter Sneak Attack custom action but not together which makes my modified action lack the +1 to hit from the weapon.
It feels that after so many years it should be simple to add a + to Hit to custom actions...
I know that with this threads life and continued refusal to cater to the desires here in, adding anything to this thread in the hopes of having the issue resolved is folly, However, I am going to anyway.
This is mainly a druid based issued in my opinion and with the release of 2024 rules and quality of life improvements that follow that release the issue may be addressed in another way in the coming months (the new addition of features such as rage being selectable within the feature to toggle the bonus and such). The prerelease 2024 Players Handbook support thread has already said "We are currently unable to support the Wild Shape rules presented in the 2024 Player's Handbook. To avoid confusion, we have avoided creating a 2024 version of the Wild Shape extras section." I am hoping that that means some druid issues are under development but again I will continue on.
Not being able to modify the to hit for custom actions for druid Wild Shape for ease of use, goes beyond the ability of the aforementioned solution of creating a magic item to change the to hit bonus. There are a number of beasts that have attacks that have no weapon equivalent (my primary example is the Spotted Lion from Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants). The spotted lion has an attack that does 2d8 damage. To my knowledge there is no equivalent weapon type and since there is currently no way to modify weapons to change their damage die this leaves the druid with only one partially supported option. The creation of a custom action. With how custom actions are currently coded the only way to make that work is to modify other aspects of the character to sheet to accommodate the new form. Either manually modifying the ability scores of the character each time the druid wild shapes or creating a magic item for every wild shape option to get the ability scores to be correct. Which depending on the interpretation(see *side note) of wild shape, its unclear to me whether you use your proficiency bonus or the beasts when determining the "to hit" bonus of the natural attacks of the wild shape, may not even be enough. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what the function of dndbeyond is, but to me one of the points of the site is to make the math inherent in the dungeons&dragons game easier (click a button to roll dice and everything that needs to be added is added) to deal with not harder.
Now I may not know what is exactly entailed in adding any modifier field to the character sheet custom action. I do think that reducing a lengthy homebrew process that has a multiple number of steps (Step 1:make the custom action, Step 2: make a homebrew item that modifies the character sheet to the statistics of the wild shape beast, Step 3:hope the rules are being interpreted correctly, Step 4:repeat steps 1-3 for all wild shape options), down to a single step (Only step: create custom action) if there's a "to hit" modifier box in the customize section of a custom action. From my reading of the rest of this thread (see quote from Davyd below) it seems that the answer support has given for this issue is that things are the way they are and will not change for some unclear reason.
If it is unfeasible to achieve this please explain to me why. Please explain why the custom action can't have a "to hit" modifier box? Why is it that the "Custom (attack) actions are based off Stat + Prof."(Quote from Davyd) and can't be modified further?
Custom actions don't have a to hit bonus because that's a feature of magic items. Custom (attack) actions are based off Stat + Prof. If you want to add a modifier on top of that, you should make a magic item instead.
Fixed value is called that because it's not a damage bonus, it's just what it says, a fixed value. Normally the damage modifier is based on a stat such as str or dex. This just overrides that.
Additional Possibly Off-Topic Question: Why can't the extras tab of the character sheet let you roll with the stat blocks you can add? (My assumption is it would require too much processing power to store the the rollable code in all the stat blocks available in the extras tab. I would just like some clarification.)
*side note: RAW the 2014 wild shape feature only says "Your game statistics are replaced by the statistics of the beast, but you retain your alignment, personality, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. You also retain all of your skill and saving throw proficiencies, in addition to gaining those of the creature." Its says nothing about which proficiency you use for attacks. Raw the 2024 wild shape features says "Your game statistics are replaced by the Beast’s stat block, but you retain your creature type; Hit Points; Hit Point Dice; Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores; class features; languages; and feats. You also retain your skill and saving throw proficiencies and use your Proficiency Bonus for them, in addition to gaining the proficiencies of the creature. If a skill or saving throw modifier in the Beast’s stat block is higher than yours, use the one in the stat block." Again there is no mention weapon proficiency or other attacks. Making attacks in wild shape governed by the phrase "Your game statistics are replaced by the Beast’s stat block..." meaing you use use the beast's proficiency when making attack rolls.
I wish I could thank this post twice.

+1. Seems like it'd be such a simple bit of functionality to add, and it'd be very convenient.
Well adding magic ammo to a weapon requires a custom action and that means I need to modify To Hit. so How do I do this??

You “Customize” the weapon:

I finally passed that perception check. I've looked at that screen dozens of times and never once noticed that customize button. Thanks.

For this and many other answers, please refer to the Homebrew Items & Equipment FAQ: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq#HomebrewItems&EquipmentFAQ). In this case you want to check out Question #1, but I’ll warn you in advance you’re not gonna like the answer.
