How to insert images in forum posts and PMs on DDB:
OG Written Instructions With Images (Using www.imgur.com):
First you need a direct link to the image. If the image already hosted online somewhere you just need the link to it, which you can get directly from the image itself by right clicking (or sometimes by long tapping/holding on the image on a mobile device). If it’s not already being hosted online then you’ll need to host it somewhere. Most people around here use www.imgur.com because it’s free and (relatively) easy to use. Imgur offers, like, a bajillion different link options (not really, more like half a dozen or something), but the one they suggest for forums is absolutely not the one you want. To embed images here, the one you need is the “direct link” that begins with http and ends with jpg or png. Once you’ve uploaded, navigate to “Images” in the dropdown underneath your name in the upper right hand corner then it offers the “direct link” as an option. For example: (https://i.imgur.com/HMfFhVm.jpg):
Once you’ve got the link, then you can come here to DDB and wherever you want to put the image (a forum like this, or a PM, etc.) look at the little grey buttons above the field, the one you need looks like a tiny landscape of a mountain with the sun/moon above it. (If you do not see those buttons, turn your mobile device sideways and perhaps zoom out the browser a bit as it requires the wider display.) Looks like this:
Click it and it’ll trigger a popup where you can put that direct link to embed the image. Below is an example from the first image I embedded in this post:
I also recommend constraining the width to 600 as shown in the image above 👆, the height will automatically calculate to maintain aspect ratios. Constraining the width will make sure that if anyone is viewing your PM/post on a mobile device (like me), that it won’t be a problem due to screen size. Most smartphones these days shouldn’t have a problem even if you don’t constrain the image, but it doesn’t hurt to be careful. (It’ll also prevent your post from inadvertently violating DDB’s forum rule against oversized images.)
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Lol Imgur is literally not giving me the option to get a direct link. It's offering me the image link, BBC, HTML Embed and Markdown :/
Edit: Although, you can use the BBCode (Forums) link, you just need to manually remove the img tags. Works fine with that.
Thanks!
Yeah, I’ve noticed that lately too since the last site update they released. However that only happens when you attempt to get the code from the Post.
If instead you navigate to “Images” in the dropdown underneath your name in the upper right hand corner then it offers the”direct link” as an option.
I didn’t mention that because I’m hoping they’ll add that option back to the list in posts too.
The other bonus to navigating from the Post view to Images is that the last one uploaded will always be first in the list. If you do like I do and just have one private post labeled “DDB” (or whatever) and dump all you images into that every time you upload, the newest image is always last in the list, and at this point I’ve got around two dozen pages worth of images to scroll through in that one post alone. Navigating to Images is just way faster for me at this point.
Thanks for the detailed guide on how to post images here! I've been wondering about this myself. The step-by-step instructions and the emphasis on using the direct link from Imgur for forum posts are really helpful. It's great to know about the width constraint tip too, to ensure images display well on mobile devices without violating any forum rules.
Thanks for this, Sposta. Is there any chance that I can do this through google drive or something like it?
No, google’s security prohibits it from working. Pretty much any other image hosting site works though as I understand. I have personally switched from imgur to www.postimages.org myself.

I'll check them out. Thanks!
Sure. It’s a simpler site to use in almost every way. It can batch upload images, moving them around from one folder to another for organizational purposes is a snap, accessing the correct link format is all but automatic, and the site is way faster and so much more stable than imgur anymore that it’s like the photo uploading metaphorical equivalent of what it must feel like for Goku when he takes off his weighted gi. It’s like switching from an analogue candybar to an iPhone 16 pro.
Not working at all for me. Just shows an tiny broken image icon. I've tried several file sharing sites.

As I mentioned in the very first post of this thread, you MUST use the “direct link” to the image, which will either end in “.jpg,” “.png,” or “.gif” for eligible files. As your link has no such ending, it won’t work.
