I preordered the PHB bundle a week ago on the EU store. Will I be able to see this purchase/payment here on the dndbeyond site? Because, so far I don't...
Thank you! I'm very interested to see how this is implemented / coded. I'm DMing a campaign with six PCs including several multiclassers, and after nine two-hour sessions, we've already seen a lot of class features play strategic roles and/or make for wonderful drama in roleplay.
I'm already imagining wishing to grandfather in some class (etc.?) features that I see, in the summaries posted so far, are no longer part of the rules; e.g., a Ranger character has played their 'primeval awareness' strategically and beautifully, and I'm not sure about retconning it as a combination of spellcasting and/or expertise ...

WHAT IF I WANT TO USE THE 2014 VERSION OF A SPELL OR MAGIC ITEM?
If you wish to use the old version of a magic item or spell that has been replaced by its 2024 counterpart, you will need to create a homebrew copy of it and enable homebrew content on your character sheet. Then, you can add it to your character sheet.

The real question is, when that happens, will it still be flagged as being part of the content we already own, or will it become flagged part of the content we have chosen not yet to own (or simply not purchased yet) and thus made suddenly unavailable?
Also, if the 2014 version is suddenly edited without a pre-edit version being left here, that will make it rather more annoying to homebrew. (Plus, I thought we were not allowed to homebrew copyrighted material like that)
Edit: It looks like it will likely be ok... just something to worry about with new implementations

Homebrewing copyrighted material was not prohibited. Publishing in the public homebrews was. But copying official material was not.
Doesn't excuse DDB's decision on this, but should alleviate that part of your concerns.
If you copy it right now you can also just copy the current stuff, add your own naming scheme for ease of use, and most of it will be fine.

"Aside from a few exceptions, all entries for mundane and magical items, weapons, armor, and spells will also be updated to their 2024 version. For magic items, most of those changes will come with the release of the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. Further, all tooltips and links to monsters will also be updated to point to their newest version."
im sad how true that bit under your post is the care nothing about us just our wallets
But if we access our 2014 'Legacy' PHB (that we own), will it be 'updated' to the 2024 rules, then? How will this work?
When we own adventures, will clicking on the monster tooltips lead to the 2024 Monster Manual, that we do not own?
For monster tooltips I don't know. I assume ones included in the 5.5 SRD will be viewable just as 5.0 basic rules monsters are. But I don't know about MM monsters from 5.5 that also exist in the 5.0 MM.
The PHB will still be accessible with all the current rules and spells info. But what will break is that all those spells, in the character builder, will be deleted and replaced with the 5.5 versions instead. (Same for magic items.)
So the character sheets will become 5.5 sheets instead of 5.0 sheets but the 5.0 PHB itself, as a reading reference, will still be in its current form.
Yes this breaks a big utility of why to purchase the PHB/DMG/MM on DDB because spells/items functionality will be broken in the character sheet as 5.0 stuff will be replaced with 5.5 stuff.. But at least they'll be unchanged as e-books.

Your citation doesn't specify anything about the distinction of owning or not owning the new PHB.
Do you have a source that says people who _don't_ but the 2024 PHB will have access to the new versions of things (spells, items)? Or will they just not have those spells/items at all.

What I've seen in the clarification is that all these are part of the new 2024 Free rules, so you'll get them even if you don't own 2024 PHB and 2024 DMG.
Jesus this is such bull shit. we've paid for the 2014 versions they should remain as is and the 2024 stuff should use completely new sub pages and content and not overwrite or replace the existing. I refuse to use the 2024 shit cause its absolute garbage changes. so that is forcing myself and people like me who don't like the 2024 stuff to make hundreds upon hundreds of home brew spells and items just to keep using stuff we paid for.

Absolute garbage changes? im assuming you mean because they balanced things and made some of these over powered builds less effective that why you think its garbage?
while I will agree that there are some changes i dont like, for the mast part the vast majority of the changes are for the better. It balance things more that were way to powerful and makes alot of things that were not useful or powerful engouh better,

"Better" is entirely subjective. I could say this or that alternative to D&D is better than D&D. Does that make it true? And it also doesn't address how for many this is about wanting to finish campaigns using the current ruleset.

Hi everyone, Has it been mentioned how changes to classes will be applied to existing character sheets in D&D Beyond? Thanks -Ben
Not yet Ben

Will DnDBeyond be backward compatible with 2014, or will we be forced to buy 2024 in order to make use of spells?
I'm talking about, for example, 2014 spells that are revamped in 2024. Will the 2014 ones no longer be available?
