When characters level up, what happens to their current status, i.e., current hit points, spells slots, and known spells? Is it the same as a long rest, or do they need to take a long rest to rejuvenate?
It's not an instant long rest. You gain as much HP as you gain max HP, you gain as many spell slots as you gain max spell slots, and you learn your new spells so long as you aren't a class that prepares spells on long rests.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Some will increase your current hp/ spell slots and the like, with the new options coming in unexpended. Others will have you gain those options after a long rest, with the new options being "spent."
You're right, I should have mentioned that. At every table I've played at, you don't level up when you get enough xp, you level up when you get enough xp and take a long rest.

To avoid confusion,.I normally level them up on a long rest so it's only been Hit Dice that's been a question mark historically for us. But then, I always use Milestone these days, so it naturally coincides with a period of rest.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen levels the PCs up just as they enter the final dungeon, with explicitly no time for a long rest. I ruled that they got their level 11 features and increased their HPmax, but not their current HP.

It likely depends on the DM
