Yo! so a few friends of mine and i were talking and the rangers capstone came up (bc its pretty bad and honestly just very boring) so yada yada later we came up with the idea of the ranger loosing its capstone and getting something like the paladins with getting a subclass feature at 20th level. I dont mean like a super form like the paladin just a bigger subclass feature worthy of 20th level.
anyways thats just my idea id love to hear if you guys thoughts!
Hell yeah, go for it. My personal opinion is that all classes should have subclass features as capstones, because it's just a really cool reward that feels special to your character.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

its a little late for them to be changing the ranger stuff but hey WOTC if you wanna steal that for the new Tashas youre going to print later on take it. as an optional thing like you did with the ranger before.
i could see that as a variant rule for all classes.
Instead of the level 20 feature you can gain the following subclass feature:
Beast Master Hunting Pack. You gain a second animal companion. When you command one of them, you can command the other at the same time (no action required)
Fey Wanderer Bewitching Strikes. When you deal damage with the Dreadful Strikes features, the target must make a Wisdom save against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the target is Charmed or Frightened (your choice) until the end of your next turn.
Gloom Stalker Dark Hunt. Once per turn, if you deal damage to a creature that has Darkvision, you can use your Dreadful Strike feature against them. This use of Dreadful Strike doesn't expend your uses of Dreadful Strike.
Hunter Apex Hunter. When you cast Hunter's mark, it is used against any creature of your choice within 60 feet of you. If your Hunters Mark deals damage to one creature, every other creature within 10 feet of it, that is also affected by Hunter's mark, takes the same amount of damage.
Now this needs to be made for all subclasses of each class. But a variant capstone could make certain subclasses much more interesting, and be a nice thematic choice if the class capstone isn't that exiting.
I really like the “apex hunter” even if it just was the capstone option considering all the other hunters mark upgrades and theme throughout the class.

WoTC:
Paladin: "You become the epitome of your subclass, able to enter a godlike state for ten minutes."
Ranger: "Here's an extra 1d4 damage, go buy yourself some basic poison."

Totally agree. If you're able to ride that train all the way to lvl 20 you should be rewarded for it.
