you read the title, let's give out some free campaign ideas.
ill go first.
the party needs something that doesn't exist. what is up to you. then, they hear tell of the legendary Creation Pen, an artifact of infinite potentail. anynything written with this pen comes into reality. its exactly what they need. uunnffoorrttuunnaattllyy, the pen is the property of The DM. (or whatever creator god you want to use). the creation pen, and its counterpart, the ban hammer, are locked up beyond reality in the Dungeon Masters lair. BUT! the pen has been stolen before. only once. more bad news, the theif is locked up on the prison plane of carceri (or whatever supermax prison is in your setting). so, the party needs to go to carceri, get the prisoner. THEN! things get mutch more complicated. carceri is a heck of a lot easier to get in than it is to get out. any spell that's not Wish just doesn't work, and the few gates are guarded by powerful monsters. if they get out, THEN! they have to get to the DM's lair, located outside reality. how and where the gate is located is entierly up to you. THEN! they actually have to steal the thing, while not being retroactively erased from existence by the ban hammer.
what do you think?

So heres an idea for a series of adventures that involves some outside the box thinking.
The players in the campaign do not roll up characters as is traditional because the party isn't made up of people but rather a pack of intellect devourers that are being deployed by a mindflayer to accomplish a goal. As such, the players will instead be engaged in a series of capers as they body hop betweeen NPCs in order to accomplish given tasks for their master. This kind of campaign would give the players the opportunity to engage in a lot of on the spot roleplaying/Improv as each new body they inhabit would have different expieriences and memories with the devourers losing old ones as they switch bodies. Further, this sort of campaign would reward players for clever thinking and planning as going straight at the city's archmage with a pack of guards may very well lead to disaster, but posessing a servant who proceeds to smother him in his sleep with a pillow might be super easy.
The challenge here for the GM is that they will have to potentially prep a lot of characters because the players could potentially posess anyone and in a relatively small village that could potentially be 50-60 people.
Here's one that came to me in a thread about phylacteries.
The Lich's phylactery is yours, but you need to find a way to destroy it - before the Lich catches up to you. Fortunately, the Lich had an enemy in life who wrote down how t odo it in a secret code. Sadly, it's on the back of the Declaration of Codependence, which is on display in a magically reinforced government facility. So begins a battle against time and henchmen and the government you're trying to save to steal the declaraion, unravel the clues, and destroy the phylactery. Halways through, the lich can fight them and is killed - leading to a race against time before he reforms beside them and kills them.
1rst of all, I find it funny that the DM/creator deity is just watching a group of adventurers try to find their special weapon, and attempt to free the only person who can steal it from them.
2nd, campaign idea: A world shrouded in good, the age of heros and prosperity is apon us, major monsters and evils have all been eradicated, countless ancient dark lords already taken care of, you are able to hitchhike safely, ect. But, the party is comprised of evil characters. They must navigate a world which their corruption is uprooted, and try to survive prisons filled with various other criminals. Instead of bosses being things like evil liches, murderous cyclops, and tyrannical chromatic dragons, the party finds themselves faces with selfless adventurers, guardian unicorns, and evil-eliminating metallic dragons. At first the campaign would start with some incident in the town square that lands the party in a small prison, and they would be inclined to escape, well, because it's prison. There, you can let your players forge their path, preparing stuff in the world for them to encounter.
