I do wish there had been some guidance on layering humanoid species on top of the humanoid monsters.
For the most part it just works the same way as it would for adding traits to a creature in the DMG, with the same caveats: species effects that do damage (aasimar celestial revalation, dragonborn breath weapon, goliath fire/frost/storm ancestry, human certain feats, some tiefling spells) or change ability to take damage of common types (goliath stone ancestry, human certain feats, orc adrenaline rush/relentless endurance) may change challenge, though in practice this is only likely to be meaningful for sub-CR 1.
which is insane. when do we receive a printed copy if purchased through beyond?
Why is it insane to get access to something when it is officially released? It has been stated since they were available for pre-order that subbers would get early access.
If you have a Master Tier subscription, you can view it early (as in now). If not, you can view it on the official release date. They've been very open and clear about this.
its that we should be equal when buying a product. thats all. u can clearly get the printed in stores starting yesterday :P
You're not supposed to be able to -- physical products with a release date are generally delivered early with an embargo date, which is Feb 18th. It's moderately common for stores to be sloppy about their enforcement, though.

FLGS are authorized to sell them on the 4th to incentivise buying from them. That is a perk. If you buy from some place like Amazon, you have to wait. Just like if you are unwilling to pay for the sub here, you don't get the benefit. There is nothing wrong with that.
If IDontCare wants equal treatment to those that paid for the perk, all they have to do is pay in the same fashion.

The release date of Feb 18th for the physical product mostly seems to apply to Amazon and other online or big box sellers. FLGS have had all the core books available 2 weeks before the published release date, sanctioned by WotC. With that said, someone saying they don't understand why a subscriber on DnDBeyond would get access to the digital content "early" is either being disingenuous because they are mad about it, doesn't understand how marketing works and why it is important, or some combination of both.

You can be equal so long as you pay equally the same as those of us who did to get early access. And the only versions that should be in shops are local game stores who have special permission to as an effort by Hasbro to boost the same shops that traditionally are where a lot of us play. You shouldn’t be able to buy them in large chain stores or Amazon

How I'm posting based on text formatting: Mod Hat On - Mod Hat Off
tarrasque, in addition to the ranged cone attack, also got proficiency in DEX Saves. So now the lv1 aarakocra wizard/sorcerer with acid splash is gonna have a harder time landing that in the white room. (in addition to the threat of the cone)
sea hag and banshee had their reduce-to-0hp abilities given the caveat of needing to be under a certain threshold, otherwise just taking regular damage. So mitigates that when facing high level parties.
Hag coven spellcasting was very nerfed when it comes to combat, being shifted to utility spells.
Sahuagin got changed from humanoids to fiends. Lizardfolk have elemental varieties. (I will definitely be stealing the art of the Lizardfolk with the maul since I'd planned on reskinning a Lizard King to carry a +2 Maul as part of a quest reward in a campaign).
Modrons' ranged attacks got reworked. modron tridrone for example has the javelins magically returning to them instead of being regular javelins and the quadrones now shoot gears at people, plus the damage type is now force.
Goblins, in addition to the fey change, became neutral instead of evil. Kobolds, in addition to being dragons, are also neutral.
Instead of a half-dragon template to apply to other stat blocks there's now just one half-dragon.
Somewhere else, a person tested out the saber-toothed tiger and after the analysis I saw that it was one monster significantly buffed. Came from, using 5.0 DMG, offensive CR 2 to offensive CR 4. Same defensive CR. (saber-toothed tiger) for comparison.
Trying to post an image, but the 'Stat Block Overview' page is illegible.. the explanatory text isn't distinctive from the underlying monster description.
Yeah, really unhappy about the hag coven spellcasting. That's one monster, at least, that I'll stick to the 2014 version.
Don't really care about the goblins and kobolds being neutral. That's campaign-specific, regardless, and just like with humans, you have groups or individuals in those creatures who differ from the given standard.
Yeah, really unhappy about the hag coven spellcasting.
I'm not; having used a hag coven, coven spellcasting was a massive PITA. If you want hag covens to be scarier... just make the individual hags scarier. The coven CR bump basically came from the hags each being able to cast lightning bolt twice each.

looks like the classic monsters are no longer EVIL
so, for us poor people that purchase the funny digital copy without a subscription, when will we be able to view what WE PURCHASED?
On the day it's officially released, which appears to be 2/18?

I'm hoping for monster homebrew that the 2024 template will be being implemented at some point!

You should receive it on the 18th, the day of release

To me here are some of the notable changes in specific monsters.
kraken got legendary resistances.
tarrasque, in addition to the ranged cone attack, also got proficiency in DEX Saves. So now the lv1 aarakocra wizard/sorcerer with acid splash is gonna have a harder time landing that in the white room. (in addition to the threat of the cone)

bullywug warrior certainly looks more like a Swamp-Frenchman than the previous bullywug art. ;p

I never found it a PITA. Of course, in my campaign, hag covens never operated on their own. They had minions/allies.
