You might be able to find a group that wants to continue playing the ruleset you're familiar with, but if you're looking for current than yes, there have been a few editions since you've left the hobby. 3rd edition was mentioned, but we are currently on 5th edition. That's the edition D&D Beyond supports, and the edition that Critical Role plays.
I played AD&D back in the 80's and 90's. There was a difference in D&D and AD&D back then.
I have been out of the loop since getting married in the 90's as my wife didn't like this game.
Anyway, I stumbled upon Critical Role one night and have now watch a couple of episodes. But
I am wondering is there still a difference in the 2 games or have they been combined by now?
Thanks,
They were combined back in third edition.

Unfortunately between second and third there was a pretty substantial change. 3e and 5e are pretty similar, while 4e is a bit of an outlier.
The current edition, 5e, has the basic rules for free on the WOTC website!
Basic rules are free on this website!
Everything you need to play is FREE!

Thanks, All for all the good info!

Just remember the more things change they will be the same. When you break it down 5e is very similar to AD&D and you will be playing in no time.
