So, I see that Eberron: Rising from the Last War is up for preorder on Amazon. Any chance DnDB and Wizards will be discounting the purchase of that product on D&D Beyond for those that purchased Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron? Since a lot of the content will overlap, it would be nice to not feel like we had to buy it twice. (I mean, I will buy the official product anyhow. But it would make me more likely to purchase future playtest content like Wayfinder's.)
Seconded! I love the idea of being able to purchase playtest content and be involved in the evolution of a product, but having to pay for the product again would completely turn me off to purchasing future playtest content.
There's a good chance that this won't be the same product again, but instead would be some overlap. Much like how some content was printed in Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and again in Xanathar's Guide to Everthing.
Wait, they are not the same book? I thought part of the point was you could buy early access to the Eberron stuff to influence its direction by buying the Wayfinder's Guide, which would then count towards the final product?
It looks like this new book is a name change and then some more added content. I hope they pro-rate the purchase cost of WGTE against this new book, otherwise I will be very unhappy.
Edit: I sent Keith Baker this question through his website of whether these are the same products. I will post again here if / when I get a reply.
From the description of the product on Amazon, Rising will include a campaign and The Artificer class. So there is new stuff in Rising not in the Watyfinder’s guide.
I’m curious to see if Wayfinder buyers will get a discount on buying the full version of Rising, or if we will need to just purchase the parts we don’t already have but want like one can do with most of the other titles in the marketplace
Wayfinder's Guide is playtest material and then Eberon: Rising is the official material post playtest. It will have the new races and the dragon marks, it will have the official artificer, and it will also have what's called a Patron, which is like a group background, which I'm super hyped for.
Considering that the Wayfinder's Guide was essentially a 5e conversion of the 3.5 & 4e Player's Guide to Eberron, I'm guessing that the upcoming release will probably be an 5e conversation of the Eberron Campaign Setting books from previous editions also. There might be some content that is doubled up (as in previous editions) but the majority will hopefully be additional.
Mike Mearls of WOTC said when Wayfinders was released that there might be a follow-up Eberron hardcover. If there was, he said there would be some overlap in crunch (e.g. the artificer, races, etc.), but that the fluff/additional content would not overlap much, specifically so that folks felt like they were getting new/different material. Everything I've seen about the new release seems consistent with that.
Given that this is not that different than WOTC's pattern of reprinting monsters and on occasion player options in various books, I would be very surprised if current Wayfinder's owners will get a discount on Rising. Folks who owned Volo's didn't get a discount on TOA, for example, even though several Volo's monsters are reprinted in TOA.
If you are purchasing on DDB, however, you can choose to purchase individual items/elements. So you could presumably only buy the compendium and/or only buy the monsters/etc. that are in Rising but not in Wayfinders.
Yeah, I know that now. But it was pretty confusing that they launched a product and said it was a playtest and would receive updates as they worked through things. I think most people purchased it assuming it would get a final update and be the official AL legal product. (I know I did, and looking around at responses I wasn't alone.) So, it has the potential to burn some goodwill, and that could be pretty easily mitigated by a 50% off code or something for those that bought Wayfinder's.
At the very least they should update the content in Wayfinder's to bring it into line with the final content and declair it AL legal for the next season. That would at least be a good argument for why showing early support wasn't a waste of money.
In any case, this won't really impact my purchase of Last War. But it would help instill confidence for future beta product experiments.
Are you forgetting that Wayfinder's Guide was so cheap for exactly that reason? Why give 50% off a new purchase when they essentially already sold Wayfinder's for almost 50% of what a normal sourcebook costs?
It was clarified on Twitter: the new content must be purchased separately, but if anything you own gets updated in that new book, you get the updated version automatically.
So they are going to update the content if it changes. That's at least half way. I still think this is a missed chance to build goodwill rather than annoy the fanbase. Ah well.
Seconded! I love the idea of being able to purchase playtest content and be involved in the evolution of a product, but having to pay for the product again would completely turn me off to purchasing future playtest content.
Yeah, this is lousy. I paid for an incomplete product over promises that it would be updated. Looks like they just dumped the updates on UA (for free) and took the cash.

Agreed, though I don't fault D&D Beyond in this. I think they were put in a bad spot by Wizards.
The WGTE description: These mechanics will evolve based on player feedback. This is a living document, and as these concepts are refined, this book will also be updated for free; so you will be kept up to date with any changes that are made to it.
and then Wizards went Oh, I'm sorry, all of this new Eberron stuff isn't for WGTE, its for a new product called Totally Not Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron. Even though it looks like the new Eberron book includes everything from WGTE plus more.

Sure sure. But since WotC shut down their forums this is pretty much our outlet. It's just disappointing to see WotC pulling Paizo-level bull.
So, pursuant to the video that Adam just posted about getting the updated content from Eberron: Rising from the Last War if it originally appeared in Wayfinder's Guide...
If I have purchased Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron, will the parts that appear in both books be considered "purchased" in E:RftLW? If so, what happens for people who hopped on and immediately pre-ordered the book? Asking for a friend...
(I know you guys don't know for sure yet what all is going to overlap. I'm asking what will happen with the stuff that does.)

As someone who is most eager for the sub-races & class (initially anyway), getting the updated sub-races and feats automatically is a big plus for me.
Sure sure. But since WotC shut down their forums this is pretty much our outlet. It's just disappointing to see WotC pulling Paizo-level bull.
Yeah, real salty about this one still. Mearls in an interview with ComicBook said WGTE would get Artificer, yet this other book gets it first?

Looks like WGtE will be updated with official content, so as long as I get my official Artificer I'll be happy!
Still might buy it too cause I'm a sucker for new campaign settings.
Depending on pricing, just buying Artificer + Compendium Only and then having all of the Wayfinders stuff be updated might be a discount anyway.
