sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I’m new to forums ;P
so due to story reasons, my ranger is no longer with the party and I’m unsure of what to replace it with.. we are only level 2, and the party consists of tiefling monk, Dragonborn Barbarian, gnome rogue, half elf bard, half elf sorcerer, and occasionally a Dragonborn paladin..
ive got my eyes set on a warlock and a paladin..
but im unsure of what we need vs what I would enjoy more. I’m down for multiclassing, but we use point buy and that strength req is killing me..
im going Drow for race, because story
And we only have access to the players handbook as of right now..
so... anyone wanna chime in with some awesome helpful comments? :D
they are both relatively new to spellcasters, I'm actually the only one with any experience with them lol
the bard pretty much plays like a support... throwing out vicious mockery most of the time, but has charm person and Tashas hideous laughter for some harder CC
Sorcerer has a hodgepodge of things... ice knife, magic missile, burning hands... just damage.... lol
the barbarian attacks things... lol pretty standard beefcake
the rogue just sets up sneak attacks with his sling
the paladin, when she shows up, just plays a frontline damage dealer/soaker
monk tries to do the same as the paladin and barbarian, just as a monk instead...
so I wasn't sure if we needed another meat shield for the squashers to Stand behind, or just go for stopping them sooner with some cc from the warlock..
So, I'm going to say that you have plenty of front-line characters, and suggest that you go for a different type of support than the bard. Racial faerie fire is amazing for this, by the way. Unfortunately, all your good warlock control cantrips, except for create bonfire and Repelling Blast-augmented eldritch blast, require getting near the enemies.
I recommend reading the two-part guide linked here, even though it's for wizards.

What are the bard and the sorcerer like?

(sorry about the late reply, was making dinner)
So the bard has single-target debuff covered and the sorcerer has magical damage covered. What are the other characters like?

Oh, and there might be something good in Unearthed Arcana; a few Eldritch Invocations, if nothing else.
