Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: I am new. I used to play AD&D back in the 80s, and recently, I've played a few solo adventures. Location/Timezone: Mid North Coast NSW Australia Availability: Australian EST 9 am to pm 7 days Preferred role: Player Game style: casual ( at present I have a couple of weeks to play a marathon), roleplay, hack N slash, classic heroic,
I do have a couple of level 1 characters written up, a female Drow warlock and a hill dwarf fighter and happy to create one to suite any adventure.
I read your post and realized that you and I have something in common. I too started playing D&D in the 80's, using the Basic and Expert Sets, then moving up to AD&D. And like you, I just got back into the game when my son started playing 5th Edition at his school and he asked for my help. That has re-ignited my passion in the game and it is my main hobby now. I DM a campaign for my sons and their friends and also have several ONLINE games going, as a player and a DM. It's a lot of fun.
I know that you reside in Australia and I live in the USA, but that may actually work out. I have an online campaign going on with a lady from Australia and she is 13 hours ahead of me. We play Friday nights starting at 8:00 PM CST, so she is playing at 9:00 AM the next morning, and this has been working out very well.
Due to my work schedule, I am able to play evenings and some weekends, which seem to match your schedule.
I enjoy helping new players get into the game and have several One-Shots going on with them. I use D&D Beyond for maps and Discord for communication and instructions.
DM me back if you are interested in finding out more.
Thanks you for reaching out—I’m so glad you did! It’s awesome to hear we share a similar D&D journey, right from the Basic and Expert Sets and AD&D days, all the way to rediscovering the game 3 versions later.
Your online campaign schedule sounds like it could work out nicely for me too. I’ve got a similar setup with availability in the evenings and on weekends, and I’d definitely be up for trying a one-shot to see how our play styles mesh. I haven't used D&D Beyond much, I''ve tried their character building and it's a bit annoying to use, but I'll persevere. I've used Discord as well back in my WOW days, so that should make things easy on the tech side.
Here are a few quick questions and preferences to get us set up:
When: Since Friday nights work well for you, would next Friday (or another upcoming Friday) be a good day to try it out? That would be your 8:00 PM CST / my 9:00 AM Saturday.
What to have prepared: Let me know if there’s a specific level or type of character you’d prefer, or any materials I should read up on beforehand.
Additional Info: Anything else I should be aware of to jump in smoothly? Any house rules or campaign-specific info would be great to know.
As for contact, I’m happy to continue here on the forum or move to direct messaging if that’s easier. Just let me know what you’d prefer.
Thanks again for the invite—let’s give it a shot!
