Icewind Dale is a harsh and unforgiving landscape. It is the very edge of the explored world, the last stop for travelers and civilized society. The vast open tundra, bordered by the Reghed Glacier on the east and the Sea of Moving Ice to the west, is buffeted by heavy winds thick with snow. War is common, both inside and against the ten towns. With wood, meat, and plants all in short supply, Icewind Dale is a difficult environment in which to survive. Nevertheless, people persevere for summer always arrives, and there is the promise of daylight that keeps folk hopeful of a brighter future
However Icewind dale has been trapped in a trapped in a perpetual winter that is getting worse every day ferocious blizzards make the mountain pass through the Spine of the World exceedingly treacherous, and this land has not felt the warmth of the sun in more than a year. In fact, the sun no longer appears above the mountains, not even in what should be the height of summer even if its light still slightly reaches the land below. In this frozen tundra, darkness and bitter cold reign as King and Queen. Speculation has risen on what is the reason behind such a long winter, from dark and evil wizards using dark magic, to threats from the strange creatures of the underdark, to perhaps divine wrath by Auril the frostmaiden herself. no matter what it is something must be done, lest the entire community of the dale will perish.
No matter what reason you find yourselves in ten towns, whether you are trying to hide from authorities or dark enemies outside the frozen hellscape, or you are a native of icewind dale seeking to make a living and survive as your home is slowly freezing over, maybe you heard that there are many secrets and magical items hidden in the icy depths and you came to claim them, or perhaps you come here to seek glory as many great heroes done so before. you find yourselves coming together, as threads of fate weaves your path as one. for who knows, you might be able to stop the everlasting rime, or die and become another frozen nameless corpse
About The Game -- As you might have noticed from the description Rime of the Frostmaiden is all about gritty adventure and survival in a hellish frozen wasteland. You will be threatened not just from monstrous creatures or your fellow man who may want exactly what you have, but also the elements themselves could spell doom and the end of an adventurer's career by freezing to death. this game is going to be 50/50 split on rp and combat, and will shift that percentage depending on how the party likes to handle situations.
I have run this campaign to completion before and have gained invaluable experience in its inner workings that allowed me to improve upon it and add much needed contrast to it. this will be a unique Rime of the frostmaiden experience to all others as I homebrew and add content from DM's guild to elevate the experience. I also take special care to include character motivations and backstories as long as they fit the world and narrative.
Sessions will take from 3 to 4 hours with them usually ending when there is a good spot to stop once we go beyond the 3 hour mark.
All experience levels are welcomed, if you are new to either D&D 5e, Roll20, or RPG's in general I will do my best to teach you the ropes and you don't have to worry about not knowing things, we all been there, as long as you have the want to learn I am sure we can get you on your feet by your first session.
I'm quite knowledgeable in the rules of 5e and can provide smooth sessions without having to flip through the rulebook all the time. Constructive criticism is always welcomed after sessions, I strive to make the best experience for my players but I will need your help to do so. Jokes and swearing are totally fine however racism, sexism, bigotry, and any other nefarious behaviors towards other players are not allowed at my table, respect all around goes places in keeping the group together and maximizing fun. And finally, this game does have adult themes like Isolation, body horror, gore, death by the elements as icewind dale under the everlasting rime has turned into a tough place to live in
Character Creation -- Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is a 1-11 level module. I allow all official Wizard of the Coasts books to be used when making your character as long as it makes sense within the setting, any Unearthed Arcana or homebrew must be approved by me beforehand. We will be using a more buffed standard array for stats generation that goes like this: 16,15,14,12,10,08.
Characters will be made during session 0, I recommend you have a base idea in your head if you want but try and not build too much on it as we will be doing that during session 0 so you can easily adapt it to the setting and the party composition.
