Time: Sundays 5 PM CST or Thursdays 7 PM as a possible alternative
Theme: High, weird fantasy, a splash of steampunk/sci-fi but with a more grounded, gritty character-driven approach.
Welcoming: 4-5 players, LGBTQ+, New players, forever DMs, 18+ players
Campaign Pitch:Enter the surreal city of Sigil - bizarre streets, squabbling philosophers, hidden portals around every corner, a sky made of the city itself, and all manner of danger - or friends - from all the Planes living within. Your character is a visitor or native to the City, and through some circumstance, got on the bad side of a notorious Abishai crime lord, Shadow-of-Death, and now you owe him a favor. Awaiting his orders, going about your life, you suddenly find yourself in bizarre circumstances - you awake in a mortuary, with several others who happen to share the same burden with you. The last thing you remember is simply minding your business in the Hive ward - perhaps you were attacked? If so, what happened, and is this the work of the Abishai?
This game will be character, roleplay focused though combat will certainly be involved. We will work together on backstory and get hooks to explore quests related to your character. Or you can keep your backstory simple and develop it over time. Not looking for rules lawyers or minmaxers at this time.
Something I'd like to try is a Discord channel for optional, post-session in-character discussion through text provided the in-game situation allows. I've done this before and it was quite successful. If you're up for it, great!
System/Game Info We will be using D&D 5e 2014 rules with some homebrew rules regarding resting to up the challenge a bit, plus a different XP system. Level 1 start, Use Class/Spell/Feat/etc sources from Tasha's, Xanathar's and the PHB. Bans include Eloquence Bard, Twilight Cleric and Peace Cleric. Races are limited to PHB Races + Genasi, Aasimar, Githyanki/Githzerai, but stat increases will be free to allocate for more freedom.
Apply - if you're interested you can post here or send me a Discord friend request/DM at sabre2112. I ask that you fill out these questions:
* Anything I should know about you in specific? (Pronouns, gender, D&D experience, hobbies you think are relevant, etc.) * What is your favored playstyle? Combat, roleplay, character development, humor, seriousness, etc. * Based on the campaign intro, do you have any basic character ideas? Bonus points if you provide art or your character is relevant to Sigil or Planescape. * What interested you most about the campaign pitch. * Are you OK with dark/adult themes? How comfortable are you with romance, violence (with "fade to black" used). * Which themes do you NOT want to see in the campaign, if any? * Does an optional Discord channel for text-based in character interactions post-sessions sound interesting (I can explain it more)
hi! this sounds really interesting, I'd love to play if possible! discord is bbesGaming, I sent you a request. im in mst, sundays at 5 work great for me.
he/they, 36, I'm 2 sessions into my very first campaign and can't get enough! I watch a ton of d20 so im pretty familiar with the rules and general flow of the game. im a screenwriter so I understand and enjoy crafting narrative! i write sci-fi quite frequently so that could also be an asset.
I love roleplaying and solving mysteries, combat is fun too! bit of a goof, I love sessions where we laugh the entire time. my first thought for the setting is an Aasimar warlock with an archfey patron, it sounds like it would fit the overall theme of the campaign. I like the potential narratives of owing a very bad person a favor, could lead to some interesting and tough choices. im fine with dark and adult themes, romance and death. i hate sexual violence being used as a plot point and would prefer to avoid that. i would participate in the post-game interactions, it sounds like a fun way to decompress.
Hey! This sounds really fun! I'll send you a request on discord (my user is error40444)
My pronouns are she/her, I'm 23 years old, and I've been playing D&D for about three years but my group got too busy with full time jobs to continue playing our campaign. I'm a writer/reader so rich backgrounds are super fun for me. Both options, Sunday or Thursday would work for me!
I love all aspects of D&D but especially any roleplaying or character development. I appreciate a DM who can have a nice mixture between serious and funny moments in a campaign. My favorite classes to play are rogue, artificer, or a wizard which could probably fit pretty well with the world you are creating. I love the idea of a bit of steam punk mixed into a fantasy world and have been wanting to try something like that for a while. I really enjoy piece of media set in either a steampunk or fantasy setting so why not combine the two? I have only played campaigns with darker themes so that's perfectly fine with me as well as romance and death. The only think I would like to avoid is any sexual abuse or themes of homophobia, transphobia, etc. I've never had any post-game interactions before but it sounds really interesting and it seems like a nice way to get to some roleplay without interrupting any combat or plot.
Let me know what you think! The world you are creating seems like a fun campaign to take part in :)
Hello, my name is Raven! This sounds like a really interesting campaign. My Discord is w0lves_teeth, if you think I'd be a good fit. I am in the PST time zone, but both the Sunday and Thursday times would work for me.
For the questions, I use she/her/hers pronouns, I'm a woman, and I identify as lesbian. I have been playing D&D for about three years, and hobby-wise, I love making characters, writing stories, and doing digital art! My favorite playstyle is definitely heavy on roleplay and character development, with a good balance of lighthearted and serious moments. I have a few characters in my back pocket, though I've really been wanting to play my warlock, Coxaris Kaadius. She's a tiefling with a homebrew courtesan background, so she does carry some heavy themes, and I totally understand if that's not the vibe. If that's the case, though, I'm always happy to make more characters! I will still send Coxaris's art on Discord, though, because I can't figure out how to do it here. In regards to the campaign pitch, I love how much creativity is allotted, and the mention of our characters having a run-in with the Abishai crime lord immediately got ideas flowing through my head. I am okay with dark/adult themes, and I do not mind romance at all. I would actually love to try my hand at it, as I've never done it before! Violence is also completely fine with me. I cannot immediately think of any themes that pose a hard line for me, but I am pretty good about boundaries, so I would make you aware if anything comes up. I've never done something involving a character interaction channel, but it sounds cool!
Hey I know you said you're closing this but I wanted to throw my name out there just in case. I'm in my late 20's (she/her) and I'm new to DnD! I'm a couple of sessions into my first campaign as a druid, but I've got a couple of other characters in mind that I'd love to play (rogue, monk). I've been watching a lot of Critical Role and playing a lot of Baldur's Gate 3 recently so I'm fairly familiar with gameplay mechanics and such. I like the story telling/world building/character development aspects of DnD the most...I just love stories and getting immersed in new worlds! I've read 40 fantasy books within the past 3 months and love playing RPGs (especially ones with character customization). My discord is addwhite5594. Hope to hear from you.
