I don't see this as a big deal. I can always find and use content doing homebrew. As long as that feature stays I am cool with it and happy that you are working to make this content accessible and affordable to all. Even those with no income. Thank you
Yeah I'm having a hard time understanding why it's presently like this.
Let's put our UA material on the website which explicitly stated they will not incorporate UA material into their functionality.
The books are available for reading. This takes considerably less time to arrange than coding up all the different UA rules within the character generator.

It also is easier to show people and get people to playtest by showing it on all the different WotC website. remember that DDB is a WotC website now !!! consider it like this... you would post on facebook, instagram, tweeter and other social network... then why would you not post it on the official D&D tool set website.
their goal is not to get you on board with new mechanics.... their goal is just for you to be aware that new mechanics might come your way. its just one other way to keep you in the loop.

Aren't we paying for functionality vs. just text (yes, the UA is "free", but it interacts with the multiple paying players and myself using the game)? You'd think something as important as the OneDnD would merit a review of the non-UA stance or an exception for how important that is, instead of excusing it away.
It also makes things more difficult things to test for those of us exclusively using vtt/beyond (which is wotc is working on as well..) vs. just the text and using the homebrew feature to add things (again, what are we paying for, reduced functionality? Great.).
"Not an issue at my table! You're overblowing it!" Wait for it.
It is worth noting that "One D&D Playtest" is a Source and "Playtest" is a Source Category in the search filters now, so I'm guessing that at least some of the playtest material will be accessible through D&D Beyond at some point.

That is a legacy source back from when D&D Beyond supported Unearthed Arcana

The Legacy Source Category may be, but the "One D&D Playtest" Source certainly is not.
Is D&D Beyond going to switch to One D&D exclusively or will it also maintain 5e-related functionality for those who've paid for that functionality? In other words, are we going to be forced to either buy the One D&D content or not use D&D Beyond, losing all the 5e content and character sheet we've paid for regardless?

Hopefully they will stick to their guns and not force One D&D down the throats of customers that dislike it and prefer to keep 5e.

Speaking as someone who has been playing and DMing D&D and other table-top roleplaying games since 1978, a retired software development engineer with a degree in business information system development, over 22 years in software development in various service industries and a paying customer who was not born to contribute to D&D Beyond's bottom line, "hope" is not a plan.
D&D Beyond is owned by Wizards of the Coast and, therefore, Hasbro and now we all know what Hasbro is not only capable of but willing to do to both its customers and those who provide services directly to those customers.
Given that D&D Beyond has not spoken as to the future of the services I and quite a few others have purchased, I have two plans. One is where D&D Beyond supports 5e sufficiently for my purposes. The other is where D&D Beyond does not support 5e sufficiently for my purposes. I learned decades ago to allow only valued functionality, not sunk costs, to influence future expenditures.

I think you've nailed it on the head, expect paid tiers for every currently 'included' feature, also expect power for payment. Microtransactions for little buffs here and there. Then expect all prices to be increased until people are willing to cancel, they said it themselves. Undermonetized.
How can I use new UA on my characters to playtest new content using DDB?
While we will no longer be officially supporting this content, you are welcome to use our homebrew tools to create UA content you'd like to use. Remember that you should not publish content you are not the original author of, as doing so violates our homebrew rules and guidelines. However, private homebrew is automatically shared to characters inside of campaigns that you're a member of, so you can still share your efforts with your friends, players, and DMs!
Since you are encoraging us to use the homebrew tools, can you bring me a link to a tutorial to use them propelly?
Man, it is really quite challenging to playtest the new UA effectively as somebody who's grown accustomed to DDB. I dont expect them to reverse course, but given that there's no support for homebrew classes, there's no way to use DDB to test out new core class features.
The new VTT better be effing phenomenal to justify the total lack of user support we've seen on DDB in recent years.
With Hasbro laying people off, I wouldn't hold my breath to see expanded support.

Can we lock this thread. The position has been made clear, it is logical and makes sense.

I think this is fantastic - thank you for all the great links.
Do you have a project of a french version of Dnd Beyond ?
Only new to D&D but this stuff sounded interesting. Shame

Let's hope this extends to one dnd as so far it has been terrible. If not then at the very least make the changes be a toggle like Tasha's Cauldron.
