I wonder how much of a change they are making with the spells and items. I mean, I've been playing since the late 70s, so I get the new versions can do minor rewrites, change entire classifications and descriptions, or just plainly remove things all together. This version, however, seems more akin to when 3 transitioned to 3.5, and by that I mean, yes, they've relabled and redefined some things, but generally it seems they can't change too much or the idea of things being backward compatible won't work well together. Just a thought.
I don’t plan on using any of the 2024 6e materials. There are a lot more D&D players out there who have no intentions on switching over to another edition. I do believe that many will drop DDB and go back to “old school” sessions. I absolutely loved how DDB simplified everything concerning character creation, but I have no issues returning to pen/pencil & paper ( or homebrew digital sheets ). I’ve purchased the books I need to run D&D for years to come. There are plenty of 3rd party publishers out there also to help out with the creative process to.
So when DDB no long provides me with the tools to support my gaming requirements, then I will cancel my subscription, and move on. I have been playing D&D since the early 80’s without all this hi-tech digital stuff, and I can go back doing so again.

So are they refunding every digital book that people have bought that can't be used now?
All of the books are still usable. Read the update.
The problem is that tooltips and links are going to use/point to 5e24 content. D&D Beyond is taking away the tools people have used for years. There needs to be a toggle so that all tooltips, links, and builders either use the revised content or 5e14 content. It does not matter if we have access to the 5e14 MM if all the adventures and links point to the 5e24 MM statblocks. You are making it way harder for people to continue using D&D Beyond for their 5e14 campaigns than it should be.
If a toggle isn't implemented, there needs to be a class action lawsuit to force refunds.

The books are still 99% usable both inside the character sheet and out. You're being awfully dramatic over that last 1%.

The point is that all the tooltips in all the books are going to change. That is more than just one percent. You're not being dramatic enough.
I second JW_III comment. A slider to turn off all 2024 content would clean up the UI for all of us that are not ready to move forward. Especially for folks that have many 2014 long-running campaigns. I know you guys can do it! Just like you filter all the other stuff.
How do I turn off the new spells? I don't own or want to use the 2024 stuff. I don't really care if the old versions of spells say (Legacy), but I want to continue using those spells as I have been for the past 5 years without the new versions clogging my spell lists.
The Lance is still busted and shows 1d10 dmg (2024) with no way to interface the 1d12 dmg (2014) into the weapon mechanics. Homebrewing, which supposedly is not required, doesn’t work because of the hardcode lance data.
I support a 2024 toggle. You can look up my spending history.
Yo, can anyone who has the 2024 PHB tell me what does the tooltips of spells refer to? The 2014 version or the 2024 version? Cuz I don't wanna buy the new PHB if it affects my spell tooltips.
I am also in favor of the ruleset toggle option for character creation. Right now my character sheet has 2024 game rules interspersed throughout it and it’s not even labeled all the time. In the cases where there is a “Legacy” label, it just makes the character sheet way too clunky and confusing. I think dndbeyond should do be trying harder to keep 5e and the new ruleset entirely separated for those of us who want to continue playing 5e and have been paying customers on the site for nearly a decade or more.
One example is that my character sheet has the 2024 rules for grappling on it. I want my character sheet to have ONLY 2014 rules on it, not both. I want the option to toggle off any and all 2024 content from my character sheet.
I would expect that when I create a character, I can toggle a “2014 5e ruleset” option so that I can continue to create 5e characters the same way I have been for the past 9 years, and if I want to create a character based off the 2024 rules one day I can have the option to do so if I choose.

Does someone know when exactly the tools and the 2024 PBH get released to Master subscription members?
Tomorrow after the maintenance is completed. 5 am to 9 am Pacific.
So excited. I can't wait.

You're right. Tooltips are less than 1% of of all words on the page.
Please give an option to hide 2024 content, thank you.
Edit: I've cancelled my subscription until this is resolved.

Also want to be able to hide ALL 2024 content at the character creator/sheet level. Sub remains cancelled until resolved.

.
Will there be a way to make the "pact Weapon" for Warlocks use the charisma modifier instead of Str/Dex in the tool automatically?

My lobbying - don’t buy it

The idea is simple clear: we should be able to choose to play only with the books we paid for.
