Wait. People are legitimately saying the weapon mastery properties appearing on weapons is forcing 2024 rules on them? Do these same people not realize you have to have a class feature for it (which only appears in the 2024 classes) to use those? It's like complaining that the Light property is showing up on a dagger even though you're not dual wielding.
Same as above. Old characters still have their old features. Tooltips are updated, and being able to toggle those would be convenient, but that doesn't affect the options you select or the rolls you make. And now hearing that people are whining about weapon mastery properties being added to weapons when those ONLY matter for characters who have those properties... Even 2024 characters can only use those if they actually have the Mastery trainings. That's just an additional quality the ability unlocks, not something characters always have.
How is an inexperienced player supposed to know that they should ignore the weapon mastery? If they have a weapon and it says it has the "Vex" property they're going to assume it's something they can do\use and then spend time looking for what it is (or interrupting the game to ask).
It's the same problem as showing both sets of rules for conditions etc, or showing new and old spells. If you know what you're doing then all the old rules are still technically there & useable (bar a few which are hopefully temporary bugs), but the whole point of using DnDBeyond is to make things simple, quick and convenient. If I have to keep stopping to tell a player which rules they should be reading, or answering questions about what "x" is, when "x" isn't even a thing in the 2014 rules, it makes the whole system pointless.
I'm hoping, albeit without much optimism, that when they've finished with the bugfixes they will be working on a proper seperation of the rulesets, as what we currently have is not acceptable long term.
Easy way for them to know. Just do a search for Vex (or Nick, Cleave, whatever else). Search returns all the weapons with that trait. Click any of them, and click the name of the property that's an actual link on all those pages. It takes you to a section that says this:
"Each weapon has a mastery property, which is usable only by a character who has a feature, such as Weapon Mastery, that unlocks the property for the character. The properties are defined below."
From there, it's easy to know. They don't have such a feature, so they ignore that property. If a D&D player can't do a simple one-word search and click one result and one link, they're going to suffer playing this game regardless.
Or they search for Vex, scroll down to the actual Vex result, click it and see a description of the Vex property with no immediate mention of Weapon Masteries. They then expect to get advantage on their next attack and have to be told that, despite it being on their sheet, it's not part of the rules and they can't use it.
Now I know your next thing will be "if they scroll up from Vex through half a dozen other features they'll see it's in the Weapon Mastery section", however there's nothing in the Vex description to suggest it's not a standalone rule, so why would they scroll up. It's only if you already know about the new rules that you'd know to check.
Now, I'm not saying that these issues make the current sheets unusable, but the one of the main points of using a digital sheet like DDB is that you don't need to keep going and looking things up, everything you need should be on the sheet or linked from it. You shouldn't have to keep checking whether something on there is the correct version of the rule, or in this case whether it's even part of the ruleset you are using.
If a player is literally too lazy to even look at the section the rule is contained in, that's their own fault and nobody else's. D&D is a game FULL of rules and 5e is already dumbed down for the general public to more easily digest compared to past editions.
After paying for specific content to use I shouldn't have to keep telling people
' oh yeah that's actually not valid rules for us, so yeah there are parts of your character sheet you need to ignore
' which parts you ask ,well here have this book and read through it to make sure you've only got abilities from it '
We shouldn't need to do that
Are you holding the enter key every time you press it or something? Anyway, the point is this: You haven't had anything revoked from your account. You have a new keyword showing up in weapons, and that keyword and how it works takes literally under a minute to discover. If this is some big inconvenience it's not WotC's fault. They're to blame for a lot of issues for this rollout, but this isn't one.
If a player is literally too lazy? This is D&D Beyond. The point of it and its toolset is to help those literally too lazy to do the most basic of math and to look things up in a book.
I didn't buy dragonlance. So no dragon lance content appears on any player sheets in any of my games, make sense right?
So I don't have to tell ever player. Hey don't use this spell or that item as its not in our version we are playing, it's simply not there
I DID buy drakkenheim, so drakkenhiem content shows up. And drakkenhiem even has a toggle to not show up. ( so it's not impossible to make)
I didn't buy or choose in any way to add 2024 content to my games, yet there it is
So let's say. In the next batch of 2024 updates they decided hey players can't crit anymore, for example
And that gets added to every character sheet right next to any attack roll.
Now you have to explain to every player, so maybe not just your own group. But the hundreds of players that go through games in conventions or gatherings.
It's the fact that they are taking even more control away from dms
They've decided this is the new rules, and no matter what any dm thinks, in on our player sheets,
What else will they add?
How much harder are they going to make it to access what we have paid for after another 6 months?
And we can't even say. Remember are only palyng 5e, because there is now two different versions of 5e both mixed in the same app, both claiming to be 5e

Yes, a toggle is possible, and we don't know why they didn't do that, but we also don't know if they are maybe working on that right now. But also, you are right. They are deciding that this is the new norm, and they have said that several times. The 2024 rules, ARE supposed to be used now. And I think a lot of people will start switching over kinda soon. And for those that don't, sure. some 2024 stuff appears, but it doesn't actually effect the game. If they took out critical hits, than guess what? You just double the damage, and bam. easy fix. I personally don't even use D&DBeyond for rolling dice, since rolling dice is like half the game. Now, admittedly, my group won't full convert to 2024 rules for a few years at least, but that's because we just don't want to buy the books yet, and don't really care for using D&DBeyond all the time. But we do use some of the new rules, and still use D&DBeyond for online games, and sometimes for in person games. But we really aren't bothered by the new rules that appear, because they DON'T AFFECT THE GAME! Sure, they changed the order in which you make your character. sure, they changed inspiration to heroic inspiration or whatever, and races to species. but D&DBeyond doesn't actually play the game for you, it just keeps track of stuff. You can still use heroic inspiration as regular inspiration. it doesn't do anything. I do still STRONGLY think there should just be a toggle for which edition you use, but I don't care so much that I come here and start talking like I'm yelling at everyone. Sure, you can be angry. Whatever. But please keep that to yourself. and if your players are genuinely to lazy to properly search up what vex is? that's not a problem with WotC or D&DDBeyond. everything they need to know is right there at their fingertips. Also, I would double check that their character didn't somehow switch over to a 2024 character, cause that should be the only way weapon masteries appear.
EDIT: (I just can't stop...) What are you talking about making it hard to access stuff you bought? Really, they are just giving you access to stuff you haven't bought, just not in the best way.
Click me to get rickrolled. If I ever say something that offends you or someone else, please know that I didn't mean it. I'm always open to joining a PBP group, preferably as a player, since I'm DMing several groups right now.

DDB/WotC has had well over a year to have a better way of handling the ability of individuals to decide which version of the game rules they want to use. Rather then taking a page from those who support multiple versions of D&D and implementing the same, if not better versions of those services, WotC/DDB are doubling down on being a “one trick pony”.
Rather then creating a new and separate, side by side version of the new rules character builder and sheets that could officially be switched over to after the complete new set of rules is released has been debugged and given a proper playtest ( at least till the 24 Basic Rules are released , then Ettara could be considered), we have gotten a sad half-species, unwanted and very badly designed and developed and still incomplete and broken system.
Myself and others do not care for whatever the new rules are till they are complete, meaning that while me and others are still using the 2014 5e version of the game and rules, and still running ether a currently active game or campaign, the 2024/25 version can keep it’s nose clean the hell away from being shoved down the throats of those who are willing to wait.
Just because I and others can use this site to look up a version of the rules, does not mean everyone else does. In fact, because this site has the ability to change the rules and way this place operates at a moments notice without actually getting notification of what changes are being implemented or even getting an early notice ( more than a few days ) of what will be changed, and one can not trust the information that is available to be accurate at any given moment.
What if as a DM, I use the site to make my players character sheets, print them, and we play a game offline? What if no one in the group has or wants the 24 rules now, or ever? ( or if the group has decided to wait, and feel the new rules will require an extensive discussion, and the timing of which is best left till after the current game has been completed? )
And yes some of the new 24 stuff released does effect the game, because now you have a cross bred what is what cluster ???? that forces the individual to stop, figure out what the rule is, how it supposed to work, how is it compatible with the older rules, is it broken or needs fixing, and a host of other issues that could be solved by simply having two separate systems.
People are not lazy in looking things up, some people just do not care for the new rules at the moment, and should not have to waste more time figuring out poorly designed rules.
And no, people shouldn’t “just keep it to themselves“, people should be angry that WotC/DDBeyond is the ones causing the problem, and if you don’t like that people are upset, then why are you constantly posting and complaining about another users post about how upset they are about how badly WotC/DDB has made things.
If you don’t care what WotC/DDB does site wise, then why are you even here where people are still upset about what is going on, and wish to express and complain about it, and telling them to shut up and get over it?
I guess I may have worded things wrongly. I don't have a problem with people being upset over what is happening, I'm not happy with it either. But that individual's wording makes it sound like he is 'yelling' at everyone and anyone who posts here, even those who are just trying to help. I guess I may be the only one who saw it like that though. I do agree that right now we have an extremely poorly developed and managed site right now, and that MAJOR changes need to be made. I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "because now you have a cross bred what is what cluster ????". However I think I get the drift though, and personally I disagree. I have used D&DB with the new rules for at least 15 sessions, and it truly hasn't impacted my game. I do now realise that there are in fact two or three things that could actually change your character, so sorry for that oversight. I also agree with everything you were saying about site changes and updates and such. That is another big change they have to make. Can you guys not just tell use when you change stuff and what you are changing?!?! Also, I do think that it is a problem that people don't feel like looking up the rules. Sure, they shouldn't have to, because those rules shouldn't be seen if not wanted, but they are. And that's that. And it can't hurt to spend a minute and a half looking up what weapon masteries do, or whatever the particular problem is. I don't know if you meant to say that the rules themselves are poorly designed? [EDITED OUT] I feel inclined to disagree with that. I do believe that they may have added a few to many things, but that's an entirely different conversation all together. Really, I still think the fix to pretty much every single post in this forum is to just add that toggle that everyone wants. Regarding stopping to figure stuff out, for the most part, players should know that hey, this is a new rule that should be ignored. Though again, this falls into the 'fix by adding a toggle', area. And for new players, well, again. I do think this is an absolute mess, and I'm sorry for them if they have to muddle through this.
All this to say, sorry if I came out a little wrong, and if I made it seem like I was genuinely angry at that user or something. However, my point does still stand that for the most part, these rules don't actually change the game, except for a few things, and if you are a newer player, yes, you could easily get confused. But like I said before. D&DBeyond doesn't play the game for you, it helps you play the game, and tries makes it easier.
Sorry for any typos and such, I'm in a bit of a rush and don't have time to review this post.

First, understanding the individual to whom you where previously addressing may very well be an individual not of the English speaking world, and might be using a translation process to express their displeasure might be a thing, or maybe not, point being none of the general community is happy about how this is going, and are wondering what the hell is going on.
But, till someone comes out and starts talking, people should be concerned about what the hell is happening and will happen when nothing is being told was to what would/will happen to the site in the change from the old rules to the new.
And other sudden changes that were barely announced and noticeable have suddenly become the norm. New people won’t understand, old timers are like been there, nothing new. Wait, this is the calm before the next episode of…..
This is not at time to "Nerd Check" everyone on here. This is a time for solidarity for our passion vs. corporate greed (AGAIN). Lets not "Social media" this by nerd nit-picking every word that is said. This IS NOT an "ahh technically" moment. This is to understand that there are people who are running this thing that think nothing of us but that we are money makers for them. This is simply the OGL argument in a different version.
Fellow nerds...This is a time for solidarity, not nitpicking. We need the powers at be to finally do the right thing for all of us. We will get nowhere by challenging each other. That only allows this to go on for 66 pages and counting instead of fixing the entirely purposeful choice they made to force us all on to 2024 and to ignore our $1000+ worth of digital purchases.

This.
Imagine if the hobby could experience a real sense of community and unity as it once did when it felt as if the whole world were against us due to unwarranted stigmas of "Satanism" and "uncoolness." But nooooooooo. Online engagement and the sickening toxicity that so often comes with it sees too many who would rather get off on insulting others' intelligence. As if doing this over the internet isn't a sure sign of a lack of maturity. Among other things. That constant need to be divisive is pettiness writ large. Those who have sworn allegiance to the owners of the IP and who feel zero solidarity with fellow players even when the owners of the IP wrong them are consumers first and only hobbyists somewhere else down the list.
Okay, I'm just going to ignore the last like 30 posts, because people here have started losing track of why there are 66 pages in this forum. WotC has been seemingly ignoring their consumers for something like a month now. And that is not acceptable! Really, it's been happening for a long while, but whatever. We D&DBeyond users have stated what we want, and many many of us here have threatened to leave, and have actually done so! Right now, we want/need you to fix these problems, so that we can properly use D&DBeyond the way it was intended. right now, it ain't all that convenient of a tool. But alas, you have been ignoring us for however long now, not making any announcements about planning to fix this problems. Instead, you are to fixed on selling those books. Please pease please just take a minute to listen to the customers!

Why should i look into what vex is?
It's not from any of the books I specifically purchased to use on this site.
You know the only damn reason we buy books here
It shouldn't show up on players sheets
We shouldn't have to tell them constantly yeah. Just ignore that part of the sheet,
What else will they add to our stuff next?
