My table is split on drau/dro. But that's the one work I never try to correct their pronunciation on. Funny, the guys who say "dro" are the ones who pronounce half the rest of the creatures wrong. "Droogar" is the one that drives me crazy the most.
Anyway, this pronunciation guide is awesome. They used it last night.
Cool
Hey, did this disappear? I can't find a link.
Thanks!
It's still here. In the Monsters listing > Official, click on a monster, then the small speaker icon to the left of the monster's name.
Awesome, thanks!
I would argue that even in the video he mentions that "anti-French sentiment" was popular at the time, so that could be argued as an "archaic" (1970's!) pronunciation. But yeah, as others have said in this thread, feel free to interpret as your own!
I was delighted to read that "duergar" comes from old Scandinavian "dvergar," and so I use the "dvergar" pronunciation in my own group. "Doo-where-gar" is too silly sounding for me. And I can't help but pronounce "dvergar" like Floki from Vikings, with a little spittle every time. "Chreeestian!"
Oh ABSOLUTELY. The question is, were her hands BACKWARD at the time?!
Any intention of adding the pronunciation for subraces soon? Particularly some of the Elf ones?

I saw one for Drow
For what it's worth to those who want to get picky about pronunciations: to me the assertion that it's supposed to be somewhat French supports the current official pronunciation, not the original one.
"ette" as a suffix in French would never be pronounced with silent Ts. Mercer's pronunciation audio on the http://dndbeyond.com/monsters/bulette page is how I would expect to hear it in French, except for the 'u' sound (which would be more like the 'u' in "tu" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fr-tu.ogg ). If you wanted it to be pronounced like Tim Kask did and still be reasonably consistent with French orthography, you could spell it "bulet" or maybe "bulé" if you wanted to be unambiguous about the last syllable and felt like being fancy with accents.
And for those who don't want to get picky about pronunciations: well, then you've got nothing to worry about in the first place. Have fun! :)
Has this voice-feature been removed? I need to pronounce things ðŸ˜.
-from 2019
No, just not all recent sourcebooks have it.

This feature is honestly so good. I lament when certain entries don’t have it, especially the more difficult-to-pronounce monsters.
Dragon #93 from January 1985 has the Frank Metzer "Ay prounceseeAYshun gyd" which says that Drow can be pronounced either "drow" (like how) or "dro" (like hoe)
Not sure why we're reinventing the wheel. Use the guide from 1985 and move along to something else. ANd yes, the feature is great! Thanks for adding it and updating it.
