The Cleric that Duke Eltan sends to help the two that have become incapacitated is quick in arriving and even quicker in administrating treatment. It takes a lot of investment to return the two companions back to themselves, but within the hour they're fully conscious and aware. The Cleric, a cleric of Torm, informs Woe that the cost of the treatment has been paid for by the duke, and warns them about the danger of interacting with creatures that can drain even the strongest of adventurers with a touch.
The way to the sewers and lower basement is left open. A dark hole that promises even more dangers if not sealed.
Once the teleportation circle is finished, Eltan gives Signore a single nod and he finishes the incantation. It only takes a moment before an oval portal shimmers into existence. The Duke takes Woe's hand and walks into the portal with her.
Woe trusts Duke Eltan. His eyes had her worried for just a moment, but she doesn't hesitate and steps into the portal with him.
Woe finds herself surrounded by strange metal. There's a whirring as if pressure is building up, then the Psssssh! of release. All around this chamber are glass containers, bubbling as if filtering water. Each container has the same thing, each thing has its subtle differences. All around her, sitting in the containers are brains. The eyes float up from them and the stem and nerve system dangle below. All eyes turn to Woe and Eltan as they arrive, watching and judging.
From around a large central container, a creature moves across the floor as if hovering. Humanoid in stature, this creature has long limbs with sharpened talons and wears a robe of some alien material. Its large bulbous head ends in long slithering tentacles where its mouth should be. Woe looks to Duke Eltan, and his face falls and his mouth opens like many of the diseased children and adults they had seen before. He still stands, but has lost all control of his motor functions. The creature looks at Woe with glowing red eyes and a voice pierces her mind, It's a joy to finally meet you in the flesh, my dear.
Woe, smiling to herself just a minute ago, absolutely sure to be able to handle any situation, can feel fear creeping up her spine. This was not what she had been expecting. Still, her diplomatic training shines through. She stands upright and proud. "I am honoured to be invited to this place. Who are you?"
The creature draws closer, and all eyes shift to him, then back to Woe.

Woe feels something grab her from around her waist. It's the puppet skin of Duke Eltan. Like a vice, he grabs a hold of her and keeps her in place. His face suddenly animates, if only for a second. "Stay still, my dear. This is what you wanted..." His mouth droops and his eyes bulge once again, back into a catatonic state as his arms remain wrapped around her.
Woe struggles against his hold. "Explain to me what you're doing! Then I might just stand still by myself!"

As much as Woe struggles, she's unable to slip from this puppet's grasp. The creature continues its approach, whispering soothing comfort into her mind. You're an asset to us all, Woe. A true survivor. Thank you so much for your service. The creature lunges at Woe, its tentacles seeking every open hole it can find on her face. She feels them slithering into her nose and ears, pushing up higher and higher until they reach her brain.

Woe is a Thrall now.
Duke Eltan began working for the master only in the recent months. The thraul is the master's creation. The old lord he had working for him did not have the influence that he needed to get thraul out to the world. As you can see, being able to control a multitude of minds simultaneously is quite a powerful tool. The master's old lord lived in what is now the Scarlet Dawn's guildhouse. This is why Duke Eltan needed Woe. He needed to find out if Viscardi knew, if the guild would find out, and whether or not the master's grand plan was in jeopardy.
People on the street have taken to calling the creator of thraul "The Sentinel" - This is fine with the master.
The thraul has been created from an elder brain's corpse. The master's old master. You're eventually going to have to thwart and/or confront your allies when these things start coming to light. Right now, the Scarlet Dawn is the Sentinel's greatest threat, so you're to observe, report, thwart, and intervene (as a last resort).
One last perk. If you encounter someone or get someone to use thraul, you can then enter the dream state, contest them with a Cha check, and force them to stay in the dream state forever. Their body then enters a catatonic 'diseased' state.
Oh, and the master loves the taste of childrens' brains. He was looking forward to tasting Polly's and learning everything she knows. Having you in the Scarlet Dawn will suffice though, so no need to bring him that tasty treat.
And yes... he arranged for Polly to be sent to him in Chult.
You're going to 'wake up' in Duke Eltan's estate. Everything will feel fine... None of these abilities and proficiencies and knowledge and thoughts will feel new to you, but you'll know that they'll feel new to others.
Downtime research on Whistler:

There's little known about Whistler before his time with Viscardi. The first known record for him is when he came into Viscardi's service. It seems he came to Viscardi shortly after he was resurrected, almost as if he was sent on purpose. But his loyalty has never been questioned. Everything you can find just further proves his loyalty. As you continue to read documents, you come across something a little disturbing. Whistler had a passing connection to a missing noble from a house rival to Viscardi, who was rumored to have been murdered. But there was never any evidence, nor a body, so nothing came of it.
