"We'll take the middle four," Lera nods, looking at her father. "Come on pops, I've got some questions." The sorceress grabbed her father by the hand and ran to the front, where the little gnome still stood with his large scroll.
"Excuse me, Mr. Needle, sir," she greeted him. "I have like three questions, really quick, I would appreciate it so much if you answered. First, how literal do you expect us to be? Second, do you and Mr. Viscardi appreciate puns? And third, do you have any advice?" Lera looked up at the gnome expectantly with a big, friendly smile.
Zamar grumbles under his breath to Lera, “I told you not to call me ‘pops’.” He follows her over to Needle, standing near enough to assist her, but letting her take the lead. He stands behind her playing a pleasing tune softly on the pan pipes to help set a positive mood.
Needle looked up from his scroll, squinted at Lera, and raised an eyebrow. He chewed on a pencil considering her questions. After clearing his throat, he answered. "First question: I did not compose this test. That would be Mr. Viscardi's handiwork. I'm merely conducting the exper... I mean the contest, for him. Second question: yes." Needle paused, looking around at the quickly emptying room. "Third question: you'd better hurry." He blinked at her, then added. "Are you still here?"
"A giant with a shimmering shield; you say." Perrin ponders it for a minute. Then says as if he made up his mind "Once we sort out this here take me to him. I'm sure I can persuade him to trade for it. He's never had my Ma's homemade Cherry Pie; one taste of that and I'm sure he is willing to trade his shimmering shield for the rest of it." Perrin nods at the end of his statement as if he is stating facts not speculations.
"If you believe that you can convince him to give up his most prized possession for a bit of baked fruit, I will stand beside you. Once our business here has concluded, I will take you to his hideout."
Singe and Woe climb the ladder like experts, ending on a second-story balcony to what could only be Needle's own paper supply warehouse. Across from them, on the roof of a single story building is the Kenku. It stands crouched on the far end, somehow making the ten foot jump from balcony to roof, peering down into the alley below where the rest of the pursuers fled. Its head cocks to the side when it thinks it hears something, but its attention is on the alley below.
"Look," Needle says, annoyed that the two weird looking humans didn't make a move to leave. "Viscardi bought nearly my whole paper this week and I'm rushing to get a new mid-week paper out with legitimate news. If you'll excuse me..." He turns from the two Aasimar and enters the offices behind him. You can hear the gnome calling out to his modrons, "Can't you two work faster!?" The door closes and the two Aasimar are left alone outside the Baldur's Mouth office.
Singe summons a spectral hand, orange and red and seemingly wreathed in flame. It sits behind the kenku. He lifts back a finger, ready to tap the kenku when he hears "Take a feather," from beside him. He shifts from foot to foot, his face scrunches. Singe places a silver piece on the floor next to his foot and whispers "Tymora forgive me." He plucks a feather.
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
The Kenku screeched as a feather was plucked. He rubbed his back end and turned to face Woe and Singe. "You could have just asked, you know," he said. The Kenku looked down at the alleyway below, watching as teams of scavenger hunters continued to try to locate his whereabouts. Turning once again to the pair, he placed a finger before his beak, and winked, before jumping off the roof. From the alley below voices yelled once again.
Woe shrugs her shoulders and gives a half-hearted good-bye "we are sorry" wave to the Kenku. She whispers to Singe "sorry I asked you to do this, I could see you were uncomfortable".
"Let's get on with things..."
Woe looks around the balcony and the building they are standing on. She pops her head in and sees a large stock of beautiful handmade paper sheets. She just stretches out her hand to take a few sheets, when Singe gives her a push in her side: "Don't you dare steel that" Woe looks up and nods slowly and admires Singe's strong stand and morals. Something she hasn't seen for a long time in an adventurer.
"We should keep moving," Singe says, "I think I know where we might be able to find two items. But I hope you have your charm about you." Singe walks towards the closest city gate near the Lower City.
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
They start jogging down the alley together. Passing Needle's office again, which seems now empty.
"Lead the way!" On the way Woe will keep her eyes open to see a whore house or a similar establishment and she is also looking for any passing flaming fist soldiers... and also on the lookout to see if they are running past any other scavenger hunters... perception 2. "I think that butterfly over there was on our list too, let me catch it, yes, I have it! One less item to find!" Woe is very proud of herself! She cannot however, distinguish the other scavenger hunters from normal people.
When she starts looking with more and more interest at the flaming fist patrolling the area the closer they get to the gate, Singe interjects: "Um, Woe, I don't know what you're planning, but let's not bother the guards. It gets messy if I'm in manacles by the time we're at the city gates." "I could charm them, give a little concert, you know" "Oh Tymora save me, no, please don't" "Maybe they wanna throw pieces of clothing at me and I don't have to force them to do anything!!" "NOPE!" "Come on!! Being good hearted is one thing, but this boarders on boring"
Woe lets her head hang like a little kid being scolded - even though she is a rather mature woman...
Travelling from one side of Baldur's Gate to another has always been a time consuming process. Even the largest of roads in the city are full of foot traffic as Perrin, Koll, and Shanolia make their way to The Happy Hangman. As they get closer to the docks, the seedier side of Baldur's Gate gets more apparent. Gone are the hawkers looking to sell wares. Here, you buy your wares from an alley, never asking where it came from.
"Oi, halfling!" A gruff voice from behind you calls out. Those around the three of you move out of the way, wanting to avoid a potential conflict. You turn to see three individuals. One large human, a half-elf, and a half-orc.
"He's got the list," the half-elf says. "I saw them give it to him."
"Just hand it over and no one needs to get hurt, yeah?" The half-orc eyes the three of you, trying to get a feel for your strength.
“Thank you, Mr. Needle,” Lera gave the gnome a little curtsy before turning back to her father. “Experiment, eh?” She said, switching to Celestial so they could speak a little more freely. “I have a crazy idea. What do you say we try and find Viscardi, pops?”
”That seems a good idea... and don’t call me pops,” the older aasimar grunted.
“Sure thing,” Lera gave a little salute. “Pops.” There were two inns nearby, but only the 10 Bed Inn overlooked the square. If Lera was performing an experiment, she would be sure to have a front row seat to the action. The father-daughter duo made their way to the 10 Bed Inn, momentarily forgetting their actual list.
The 10 Bed Inn is literally that. A small Inn near Baldur's Gate with ten rooms decked out for visitors that prefer to stay within the Lower City when visiting the Patriars of the Upper City. The rooms are relatively expensive and the Inn features a common room that hosts small events for entertaining their distinguished guests. Lera and Zamar climb the stairs to the second floor common room and enter the Inn with relative ease. It overlooks the small square outside of Baldur's Mouth, providing a few windows for guests to use while enjoying their drink.
A young woman approaches the two as they get their bearings. She smiles at Lera and gives a slight bow to the more elder Zamar. "Welcome to the 10 Bed Inn. I'm sorry, but hunters in Lord Viscardi's... trial are not permitted at this time. May I suggest a few other Inns?"
Singe stops suddenly. "Ack! No! This won't work! Blast this damn thing!" He grumbles, rubbing his temples, "I'm terribly sorry Woe, this has been the completely wrong way to approach this. I know a member of the Flaming Fist, Alton, but I'm not sure about his standing with them. I also know a tailor, Paela, who might get us some very large undergarments and she also knows Alton so she might be able to help find him." He whimpers "And we're losing time!" He turns around and starts speed walking towards Paela's shop.
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
Koll looks at the men, pretending like they didn't just threaten us, and smiles widely. "So, you too are playing this little game? What have you got on your list?"
"Ain't none of your business!" The half-orc growls.
"Hold on Yurt..." The half-elf puts his hand out and takes a step forward. "Look, the list only says we need the list from another team. Maybe we just trade lists."
You see the human smirk from behind the half-elf. A small crowd is beginning to gather as onlookers stop to see what the commotion is about. The little scene is already starting to attract attention.
Seeing the human smirk Perrin believes that they know something we do not. He'll step forward and call out the human.
"Human... Ummm... I'm sorry I don't know your name. I'm Perrin though. Perrin Cherrycheeks of the Cherrycheeks farm. It seems like you know something that we don't. I'd be willing to trade for some information. How about one of me Ma's famous Cherry Pies?"
Perrin will then sling off his backpack looking for one of these pies to present to the group opposing them.

On their way to the inn to see Koll's brother Perrin spots a pet store.
"Hey, guys on our way back let's stop there and ask them about Space Hamsters. Hopefully, they'll know something about what a Space Hamster is."
