Background: Noble
Vaike was born the youngest son of a branch family of one of (insert country here)'s largest house. While such a prestigious house could allow Vaike to live a relatively comfortable life, being the youngest son of a branch family meaned that he would be a bottom rung of both his house, and upper societies social rungs, insuring he would be a relatively background character to the grand picture of things. Vaike did not like that.
From an early age Vaike had practically latched onto his cousin, the main families middle child 'Chrom', a paladin who had just completed his training under another senior paladin and was going to adventure into the world. For the first couple of years Chrom had laughed off Vaike's persistent requests to become a squire whenever he had come back for short visits to the houses main compound/village, but once Vaike had reached his early teens, it was evident that he was both capable and even destined for more then a stuffy life as a branch family noble with his almost prestigious athletic and martial capabilities surpassed almost everyone else's in the entire house.
Chrom finally accepted Vaike as a squire, and the two went off for many years visiting many towns, villages, and ports, doing whatever jobs needed doing, showing off both the glamorous and the not so glamorous parts of a paladins lifestyle to Vaike. The two secretly conspired with each other, practically brothers instead of cousins, and had planned of breaking off from the house and starting their own. They would join the army, and get high ranking positions to boost their credibility. The two adventured for years, and eventually Vaike had become a full blown paladin, hell bent on making a name for himself, driven by aspirations and lofty goals.
On one of the two's last missions together, settling a border dispute between the two warring countries, the two were ambushed and separated from one another, with Chrom either being captured or killed by agents of the enemy kingdom before Vaike could respond.
Vaike tried joining the traditional army for about a year, but the progression, and processes were slow, the rules asinine and extremely limiting, and his superiors unbearably confidant in their position even though most had been promoted for name rather then actual skill, and nobody really caring about a the unknown fate of a paladin who went M.I.A nearly a year prior. When his company went through a particularly disastrous defeat, he faked his death, and joined a mercenary company hoping to have more freedom to both find the fate of his cousin, and to create a new noble house that rewarded hard work and talent rather then who was born where and when.
Personality traits: I hate being unarmed. I’m full of inspiring and cautionary tales from my military experience relevant to almost every combat situation. I always try to investigate prospective clients before accepting jobs.
Ideals: Privacy. I don't go snooping about in other people's heads. Independence (or Intelligence, depending on how you look at it). When people follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny. Preparation. With my luck, thorough planning is probably the only reason I'm still alive.
Bonds: I would still lay down my life for the people I served with. I will never leave a friend behind.
Flaw: I've lost too many. I'm not sure I can survive another loss.
Features: Mercenary Life; Darkvision; Fey Ancestry; Trance; Fighting Style (Dueling); Second Wind; Action Surge; Combat Superiority (save DC 17); Extra Attack; Know Your Enemy; Psionics (save DC 15, +7 to hit); Soul Knife; Mystical Recovery; Telepathy 120'; Hone the Blade

Brief backstory:
I never knew my parents. I was adopted and raised by a tribe of human nomads. They were killed by a combination of bandits, enemy soldiers, and bad luck. I was forced to grow up much faster than normal for an elf.
I wound up a mercenary, leader of a small all-female company. Most of them died, too. The only ones who might have survived that ambush are my second in command, Niall Coineagan; and the company mage, Adaidh Seadhg. I'm pretty sure they died, mind you, but I never found the bodies. It was in that ambush that I discovered my powers as a mystic.
Next, I wound up in a sort of monastery. They trained me, a bit, and taught me the ethical consequences of telepathy. Then they got slaughtered, down to the last man, woman, and child.

Grelin Yaldes, Dragonborn, Fighter, Neutral alignment, he's a sucker for a pretty face, and has a strong liking for ale. He is proficient in combat with a warhammer and battle axe. He has a crude sense of humor and is loyal to his friends. Will this be enough for the personality?
That will work! We have our party. This thread will be closed and the IC thread will be posted in a few days once the characters are built and opening laid out.
