I will leave that up to you :-) As the backstories are rather loose for the characters I will let you write it as we go, so if you want him, with his soldier's backgrouond, to know people at the keep, then go ahead!
(OOC: Let's say for narrative sake that he is a former Capt or Major in the King's army (I'll let you pick), just in a different unit but still has some positive notoriety for past deeds. A more detailed version of this is in my Backstory on my character sheet that I actually wrote last week. With the piece of banner in his inventory he can use that as "proof" of his service.
"Military rank" feature from Soldier background on CS: You have a military rank from your career as a soldier. Soldiers loyal to your former military organization still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank. You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other soldiers and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.)
In character:
Enoth sizes up the few other volunteers, and looks around, scanning the faces of everyone else to see if there are anymore willing individuals. He says to everyone gathered in the room, "If nothing else, this will give us vital life experiences, and some extra wealth in addition to the 50g - if that is your motivation."
[ooc]ENOTH: That sounds good to me, but I am not too sure he would have been that high of rank, being only a starting character. More likely an NCO rank, or even just a senior trooper would probably make more sense to me.[/ooc]
As the final adventurers sign the contract, the envoy sands the signatures, brushes it off and rolls it up.
"A copy will be awaiting you at the eastern gate when you are ready to depart. We expect you to be on the road no later than 2 days hence. Purchase what you need and get to the Keep. Best of luck."
The envoy then leaves and you are free to do whatever you wish.
[ooc]Ok, we can handwave the next few days and pickup at the gate leaving, or if you want we can role play you meeting etc. Up to you[/ooc]
Enoth says to the dwarf representative, "Will we receive a map of the area showing us where the keep is precisely located, where past attacks on caravans occurred, and any nearby landmarks? Never know what to expect on the road..."
He then turns to his future companions that also volunteered and says, "My name is Enoth, former soldier of the King's army. I'm looking forward to serving with you all. (Bows). Shall we all take tomorrow to ourselves to purchase equipment, sort out any personal business, or otherwise? Then we can all meet up at the front gate after a good night's sleep and breakfast and be ready to set out? Of course, if you all feel we should share a pint or two, then I'll be happy to do so after concluding business with the King's rep."
(OOC: Ok I'll mark down senior NCO as his former rank. Assuming if no one else has any further questions, I'm fine with time skipping ahead, but if others want to RP a bit then I'm game.)
Vapeiros stands up straight, and readjusts his equipment on his back. "I'm Vapeiros Moonstalker, and I was a skilled bounty hunter for a time." The high-elf bows while saying this. He continues: "I am ready to leave whenever, but if you feel it necessary to acquaint ourselves with each other before embarking on this adventure, I will acquiesce."
(OOC: I'm indifferent. I'm okay with skipping ahead or RPing some.)
"Errid Hilltopple. I'll be waiting for you outside the gate, city-dweller." Soldier. Very fancy he is, too. Not going to enjoy the real world outside these walls, I think. Which means that I'll have to take care of him. Soldiers! Bah!
OOC: Fast-forward to the start of the trek, at least. Why don't I have fishing tackle?
I suppose I might as well buy--horrid thought--a set of fishing tackle while I'm here. It's not as though I've got anything better to do with all this silly yellow metal, after all.
Lorkoris speaks up, "My god has sent me here so I shall serve in helping get back these keep, on the boarderlands" having a solider with battle training will be nice, a bounty hunter, I have a good feeling about this
OOC:I'd rather role play more then skip ahead

"Finnegan Ridgecrest, you can call me Finn. Nice to make your acquaintances."The halfling responds. "I'm no soldier, nor bounty hunter, but I can certainly hold my own in a fight and I'm no stranger to the wilds." Finn contemplates for a moment before continuing, "I agree that it's probably a good idea to stock up on supplies before heading into unknown dangers. I'll be at the gate in the morning to head out."
Finn gives a half nod to his new companions, before leaving the inn.
OOC: Finn would like to try to purchase a grappling hook and 10 additional darts
It doesn't seem that his traveling companions are too interested so Arlondo decides that he will just meet the others on the road. He'd prefer to be out of this city anyway. In fact, if Erid does not protest, after he procures his fishing tackle Arlo suggests camping outside the city and coming back in the morning of the meet.
Enoth, after concluding business with the King's rep, getting all the necessary information and writing down notes in his journal and seeing that others are getting ready to leave to go take care of their business (assuming on their own) or just uncomfortable being in the city, says to everyone leaving, "Looking forward to travelling with you all. Remember, meet at the main gate just after sunrise the day after tomorrow. Make sure to eat a good meal before we meet up to leave. It may be the last one decent one for a while." Enoth quickly thinks,"hmm... I hope we have a half decent cook in our group."
He realizes some may wish to get acquainted while others prefer to be on their own before leaving, "I don't have any real preference, each to their own. Some may want to exchange some pleasantries though," he thinks to himself.
Just before people start walking out the door, he says to everyone, "If anyone wishes to join me in getting a good meal and some drinks, then feel free to come along, my treat. If not, that's ok. See you at the designated time."
(OOC: If we fast forward we can always RP as a group once we leave, just to be fair to everyone's character. Not too wild about RPing separately, but that's just me)
He says in Dwarven to Lorkoris, "Come my friend, let's find a better place," he turns to everyone and says in Common, "Anybody can come along if they wish, my treat." Since some have gone off on their own, Enoth will just exchange pleasantries and get briefly acquainted over an affordable, but decent dinner with a couple drinks with whomever comes along and engage in small talk. Waiting to share any critical character information with everyone else as a group.
He will purchase however much that costs and then will look to buy 10 pitons, 1 extra hempen rope, and 2 candles from a general store.
Arlo asks Errid without saying a word, “What do you think of our new traveling companions? I know we only got a brief glimpse, but what were your initial impressions? I for one can think of one difference they will bring to our camp right away, the animals will probably be scared off from all of the noise.”
He then offers Errid another piece of the small rabbit they had caught and cooked then goes back to his own morsel.
:I think we'll have our work cut out for us getting them to the keep, but they'll probably be useful once we get there. Whether they'll be worth the hassle, I can't yet know.:
Errid accepts the rabbit with a telepathic mutter of thanks.
OOC: I've gotten used to that formatting being used for telepathy.
