Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
A pit trap is concealed in the path ahead, barely visible unless you know what to look for. Goblins made it, without a doubt, and probably to protect a lair nearby.
Darksniffer draws his sword, waving to those behind him. The steel shimmered slightly in the dim light, just enough to catch someone's eye. Approaching the goblin, he sits crouched in the path like an out-of-place bush, "See there: dead-fall pit. You fall in, no come up. Very careful, one fall in, ambush is close. Kill others with sharps or push into pit." Darksniffer jumps off the path and begins to sneak around the surrounding area, looking for hidden enemies.

Darksniffer spots signs that someone — most likely the goblins — cut straight up the mountainside, away from the deer trail. The goblin path seems a couple days old.
Darksniffer returns to the others, reporting the trail. He seems eager to take this path as it may lead to allies or shelter.

Yahg, tailing behind as always, was counting his gold coins and not paying much attention to the task at hand. Eventually they had to start hiking, and he tucked his new coins into his own socks - What a smart hiding place - and secured his Shiny in his pants. He didn't much like hiking, but he was doing his best despite not really knowing where they were going.

When he made it to the rest and got Darksniffer's report, Yahg grinned widely. He addressed Darksniffer in their common Goblin language, "Yes! Yes! We go find our friends! I'm sure they have heard of Yahg Fodderkin. They help!" Yahg also seemed agreeable to following the Goblin trail.
Yahg is a Folk Hero background if that makes any difference should we encounter them. Although the actual Hero part is up for some debate.

Yurk sighs as he avoids the trap, These goblins seem a little TOO eager to find their kin. He follows hesitantly with his spear and shield readied, listening intently for any signs of trouble.
As the party heads up the goblin path, Yurk hears the voices of someone coming up the deer trail.
"…Ain't so nuts. Gorog's got a secret weapon, something big. Yeah! I was cleaning the latrines behind Gorog's tent when he was talking about it a fortnight ago. Said it's powered by people croaking inside it."
The voices are close — just a few minutes away.
The trail leads into a cave in the side of a cliff. After checking thoroughly for goblin traps and disarming two, the party enters. It's warmer and more damp than the night wind outside. At the back of the cave, about 50 feet from the entrance, is an opening 20 feet from the cave's floor. The rock face below it, however, has been polished smooth. It would be extremely difficult to climb unaided.

(Are the voices coming from further in the cave?)
Darksniffer slinks further into the cave, trying to carefully observe what may lie ahead. Upon seeing the drop to a lower level, he listens to see if his climbing gear would draw attention.

Yahg hears the voices ahead, but isn't concerned, "Ah. Goblin friends!" Ever the optimist, he seems convinced that surely they'd be happy to see him. Yahg sits down in front of the (bottom right) column, leaning back against it as if he were just resting here. Maybe they'd leave him alone and continue on their way. Or maybe they'd want to ask about his Shiny! He was very important, after all. Yahg took out his Shiny from his pants and inspects it, rubbing the face with the dirty sleeve of his tattered shirt.
The voices are coming up the trail behind you. You hear two talking to each other, but both yelling at a third to obey, to pay attention, to stop pulling.
Inside the cave, the opening is 20 feet up above the cave's floor. The back wall of the cave below the opening is very smooth — it looks like it's been polished, even. At the top is a basket big enough to carry a goblin. A rope tied to the basket loops up and over a pulley anchored in the cave's ceiling, and back down to a winch.
Darksniffer can't hear any voices from further up in the cave. Examining the wall, he finds no cracks to hammer pitons into — they must have been cemented over.
Yahg shrugged - they may still be working for Gorog, but there was no reason for them to believe that Yahg wasn't. No reason for Yahg to think so, either. I mean just because they killed one Hob didn't mean much. Life expectancy was short with gobs and hobs rubbing shoulders. So Yahg kept to himself and waited for the gobs to show up, and then he'd find out if they were friends or not.
That said, Yahg still draws one of his daggers. Goblins could be cruel even to their friends, after all. And he made a show of picking at his teeth with the pointed blade.

You start to hear the voices -- are they orcs? hobgoblins? -- talk about a cave. Snarling and growling sounds are audible outside the cave now, as well. It sounds like a massive dog. Whoever is coming toward the cave, they're going to see Yahg first, then Yurk.
Let me know what Ash's readied action is either in a spoiler or in a PM so I don't miss the trigger :D
Yurk moves behind the pillar near the left side of the cave entrance (top of the map), readying himself. No way out of here, seems like we'll have to fight our way out.
Darksniffer gets a ways ahead of the party.
