I swing my sword as hard as i can, hoping to earn a respite (11). Then, i run away as fast as i can (30 feet away from the foe by the shortest path), but keep watching the foe, and i hold my sword at the ready.

OOC: Looking at your sheet, I see nothing about a 'respite', whatever that is.
You successfully run way from them. They stare at you, not attacking. "You should get these guards out of here." They say, their smooth voice quieted a bit. A sudden gust of wind blows through, pushing their hood back to reveal purplish-red scaly skin, and black horns with some piercings. Their face is still covered with a simple mask.
After a bit, the whole party re-converges by the castle gates. You all see Moonoak, an elf that looks vaguely familiar, stumble towards you while helping support two guards, all three of which bleeding from their nose and eyes. One of the guards in unconscious.
OOC: BrianEllis, when you get a chance I need that sleight-of-hand check from Gus taking a rifle and pocketing ammo.
"we were attacked. The hooded stranger attacked us for no reason after i adressed them. they used some sort of mental attack, knocking out one guard and hurting the other. they attacked me, too, and i swung my sword at his and ran. they stopped attacking, and then, they told me that i should 'get the guards out', seeming to have forgotten that they were attacking, or perhaps contented that we were avoiding them. I brought the guards here, forcing myself to recover on the way, and here we are. at the end of the confrontation, the wind blew the hood off them, and i saw that they had red-purple skin with scales, and horns. I think they are a tiefling. "

"I ran here immediately with the guards. I did not see which way the stranger went, but if we return to the site, i think i can track them (survival 1)"

but i do not pick up any trail.
Due to the psychic attack, you barely remember how you got here.
Giving a sideways nod back to the elf, Calder says to the guard he was discussing things with earlier. ""Hmm, there's that hooded stranger again."
He turns his attention to the less-hurt guard from the encounter, "Do you recognize this creature? I believe I saw him get into an argument with a goliath while Sir North was looking for help."
Then more to the point at Moonoak, "Do tieflings have scales?"

so before my failed tracking attempt, which either turns up absolutely nothing of a trail, or a trail thet is false, i make another tracking attamps (survival 8) to follow the footprints of me, the guard that remained concious, and the boot-drag marks of the guard that was knocked out.
ooc: a low roll, but probably enough to find such an obvious trail.

Not getting anything else from the guard, Kenari trudged back to their company. Not sign of Sir de Rolo. The half-elf was delayed. Perhaps, he had been delayed with the other people. Before she could answer Calder; the elf came upon them ...with a wounded guard.
Clutching the rapier at her side, she listened before jumping to help the elf with his tracking.

"Th-they were... they were wearing a mask..." The guard sputters, falling to his knees.
Then more to the point at Moonoak, "Do tieflings have scales?"
"well, tieflings being descendants of demons or devils, and often inheriting features of the demon or devil, especially if not separated by mane generations, a tiefling would have scales if its fiend ancestor had scales."

OOC: by "hoping to earn a respite" i meant "hoping to distract them enough that they could not attack me".
I quickly help the guards up (i assume they are still alive) and follow the to the baracks, using my Second Wind class ability on the way(7).

"Ah, here we are," Calder says to the group returning from the barracks. "Did you find out anything useful from Leore?"
"What happened here," to the elf and two guards. Noticing the one man unconscious, the cleric tries to assist with his condition.
OOC: Medicine to stabilize 23
oh yeah, he's stabilized af

"Where is North DeRolo?" Gus asks the group, more specifically directed at the guards. "He must be told of this unprovoked attack immediately."
"Elf! did you see which way the masked strangers went?" (spoken to Moonoak)
