You have been invited to the home of Rentaro Caeli in Baldur's Gate, an adventurer and and the founder of a faction of no small renown called Ordo Ursa. A uniformed attendant leads you up a grand staircase to the third floor, then ushers you into a wood-paneled room with a fireplace, comfortable chairs, and a heavy table bearing goblets and bottles of wine. The darkly paneled walls are hung with maps and sea charts. Racks, shelves, and cabinets hold hundreds more rolled-up maps and charts.
A person is seated in an overstuffed chair near the fire. You can’t discern a gender, because only the person’s head emerges from under a heavy blanket draped over the chair, and an embroidered hood and silver mask conceal the wearer’s face. Even the person’s dry, raspy voice provides no clue. “Help yourselves to wine, and seat yourselves, friends — I hope I may call you that.”
OOC Gmoat, Argent, Fire have this has a chance to introduce your characters, with a bit of physical description. MC, your character is already in Chult. Stay tuned for your introduction.
The clanking of armor foretell the entrance of a figure in to the room. Standing just over 6 feet tall and covered in plate from head to toe, the Tiefling enters the room and looks at those assembled in the room, his pupiless silver orbs for eyes staring at them, judging them. Dark blue hair, carefully braided, cascades down and around the curled horns atop his head, and matches the van dyke beard. His armor, though mostly clean and polished does show minor dents and scratches that prove he's seen his fair share of action. Blazoned across his cuirass is a skeletal hand clutching scales, the holy symbol of Kelemvor.
He carries no shield, but your eyes are drawn to the 7 foot long halberd he carries with ease. He looks around the room, scanning for exits, threats and places of ambush, he dislikes being 'summoned' as if he's one of his ancestors. That is when you notice on his back, as he flexes them slightly in agitation, a large pair of bat-like wings. His eyes finally settle on the person seated in the overstuffed chair....
"Why have I been summond here.....are you Master Caeli?" his deep baritone voice will rumble out of his armor.
(OOC - I picture him having a campy German-esque type accent)
A female Tiefling stalked into the room. She moved with grace and determination, as she made her way to a plush couch. Removing the greatsword from the strap on her back, she placed it against the arm of the couch, and made herself comfortable, crossing her legs. Her long black hair flowed freely over her horns and across her shoulders. Pulling it out of her face, she gave a small nod to the armored Tiefling that had entered the room before her, then turned her attention to the blanketed figure. Her gaze was intense, and one of the first noticeable things about her. Looking into her eyes, one could easily tell she had seen and done things that would scare most people. But there was something else, laying below the surface, something that made you want to pick up arms and fight at her side. She was the type of person who demanded respect simply with a glance.
The second thing a person might notice, once they get past the intense stare, was the color of her skin. The ashy gray color is one usually associated to corpses, not to the living. Yet, here she sat, breathing, and declining the wine being offered. She remained stoic, as the armored Tiefling asked about the purpose of their summoning. She too was curious, but there was little point to repeating the question. She had little doubt she'd get answers, one way or another.
Hellmuth arches an eyebrow in surprise as another Tiefling enters the room like she owns the place. How curious, he's never met many of his kind, what are the odds of two Tieflings being summoned to the same place at the same time. Very curious indeed...he studies the newcomer with trained eyes, examining her.....judging her...wondering if Kelemvor will call for her. As their gaze meets, he'll incline his head in the polite gesture of recognition of their heritage and smiles.
(OOC - Hellmuth is charming as hell with a 17 charisma)
“Master Ren,” a red skinned tiefling walks into the room, no weapons or armor on his person, but dressed in modest garments of the Waterdeep style. The hat on his head is wide brimmed with a flaming feather sticking out of it. Rawley walks towards the blanketed figure and hands Rentaro a handful of berries. “Master Grathart says you have to eat all of them this time, no cutting limbs. Exact words.” Rawley looks around the room and notices two others of his race inside the room.
Heavily armored and a look of grit and determination, Rawl looked the male up and down. Impressive, yes, but how many soldiers has he seen fully well equipped and still not able to handle the battle. He nods his head at the armored tiefling and stuck out his hand.
“Lieutenant Rawley Norcack’ A’lacy, Silver Marsh Brigade, Phoniex Heart battalion.” He kept his face blank, no need to share a smile if it was met with distaste. “Ordo Ursa.”
"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."
Serandis Mendaen (Aereni Elven Rogue/maybe one day Wizard)- Project Point Playtest
"I am sure he said that, Rawley. If it were not for Master Grathart, I would be dead long time ago."The cloaked figure removes the mask carefully, taking care to give his aspect away as least as possible, and eats one berry. However, the adventures in the room have a glimpse of the skin of the man. A skin of a very pallid man in decay.
"You are a good man, Rawly. *cough* A good man."
"Yes, I am master Caeli, but please call me Ren. You all have been summoned here for a quest of the uttermost importance. I see that you all three share 'a lineage'. Well, four, considering my other contact. Maybe this is what we were missing. A bond of blood and spirit."
"Anyway, I digress. You, I am sure, have heard of the death curse. Magic meant to bring people back to life fails. Resurrections, reincarnations. All are useless. Even those who were resurrected long time ago are slowly dying. Even though this latter aspect is interesting because it means that magic has a sort of memory, the death curse must be stopped, for the good of Toril. My organization, Ordo Ursa, and the Harpers have joined forces and discovered something of great importance. The death curse is caused by 'something', a magnet of sorts if you like. A magnet for souls, we call it the Soulmonger. We traced this magnet in the far land of Chult. We do not know what it is, what it is for, and who is the maker, but the Soulmonger must be destroyed."
After taking a pause to let the adventurers consider the severity of the quest, Ren asks:" Do you accept this quest? "
Hellmuth looks down at the dandy Tiefling, surprised yet again at finding another of his race in the same room. Something is afoot here.
"I am Hellmuth von Höllenfeuer, chosen Paladin of Kelemvor...." and as he says that he'll cast thaumaturgy which is part of his infernal legacy and cause the flames in the fireplace to blaze brighter and red as if Kelemvor has chosen to back his words "and judge of the damned."
He'll then turn to Ren and say "The reputation of Ordo Ursa is well known across the realms, we have all heard the tales. What does this have to do with any of us. The dead should remain dead, anything else is a slight against the natural order of things."
"Hellmuth von Höllenfeuer, understand that if the Soulmonger is allowed to persist, Kelemvor will soon be jobless. Without souls to guide into the afterlife, nobody will pray the Lord of the Dead anymore. Any soul is affected. The souls of those who died, are dying and will die. You should see, more than anyone else, the implication of the Soulmonger. As a Paladin of Kelemvor, you should embrace this quest without blinking."
(OOC - I guess I don't see the 'death curse' as a curse as the dead should remain dead, and any sort of bringing the dead back to life (resurrection, reanimation whatever) is unnatural and should be wiped out. Perhaps I've focused on the wrong aspect of what was told to us. If something is stealing souls from the Gods then that seems to be more of a competitor to Hellmuth's job as self imposed judge of souls, for he sees it as his job to send souls of the damned to Kelemvor personally. Still working out the kinks in this new character...
Also - how dare Ren presume to tell Hellmuth what he should and shouldn't do! hehe)
Well, regardless of the resurrections considered unnatural or not, that is still a consequence of the Soulmonger, which is the real problem. The souls are going to one place only, and as far as anyone knows, Kelemvor is playing chess with Jergal right now :-) because he doesn't have any soul to judge.

"I do not believe we have been introduced," He says with a bow. He looks her over and the fire in his eyes burns brightly.
He turns his attention back to Hellmuth, and speaks up. But, not without taking glances back at the woman from time to time.
"What Master Ren is saying is that all the souls are being lost. Can't judge the soul if you have none to judge. The balance of what was is broken, and in a bad way." Rawly quiets his mouth and curses to himself. He knows better than to speak up, especially with Rentaro around. He can use his words much better than Rawly can use his. He still wasn't sure of these two, but if Master Ren said that they would be safe to travel with he wouldn't question it.
It was Ren and Chief Nalla Ironhand who saved him from the pike, who showed him that there is a better way of doing things in this life. Rawly smiled to himself as he thought about Nalla. She was scary sometimes, but she was someone he considered a friend even if he wasn't sure she felt the same way. He hoped she would be back soon for Master Ren.
Rawly feared to leave him behind and just hoped his closet friends would be near while he was away.

Nemaia sat back, into the couch, her arms crossed over her chest, allowing the men to converse among themselves. She nodded to Rawly, but remained quiet, looking the two male tiefling up and down, taking in their physiques. Once there was a pause in the conversation, she finally spoke, her voice soft, but commanding. She turned her intense stare to Ren and asked the question that was hanging over their heads. "Why have you chosen us of infernal heritage for this? I do not believe this to be a coincidence."
Rawly smiled as she asked her question. Her voice was like an angel, and considering their infernal heritage she speaks of that was saying something. But she had every right to ask this of Master Ren. He wasn't sure of this himself and Rawly had to admit he was quite curious to hear the answer.
"She asks a good question, Master Ren."
Is there a reason behind all of this? Is this why Nalla and Ren saved him that day? No, that was sill. To think such things of his friends and leaders in Ordo Ursa; THEE Ordo Ursa, that's just foolish.
