Character level: 3 Roll for ability scores. (roll 4d6, drop the lowest, and add up the remaining dice. Again, this will be a mystery adventure, centered around clue-finding and riddle-solving. Your average combat-loaded human barbarian is accepted but not encouraged.
I will be sure to post anything else that comes to mind related to character building.
From JJ's description it sounds like we will be playing as a team of investigators (a sort of medieval Ghost Busters), perhaps we could come up with group that already know each other and have some experience working together, or maybe no experience yet, but at least know each other.
I am thinking that Penumbra, being a tiefling, grew up being called stuff like "spooky" and "supernatural" and so she always felt out of place an unwelcome amongst normal folk. This would have forced her to learn to lookout for herself and eventually seek out people familiar with the occult, someone who might not treat her like a monster.
This would work out well if someone plays a mage or scholar of some sort who may have put together this group of paranormal investigators in order to further their pursuit of knowledge.
It could be fun to have most of the party show up as a group of paranormal investigators and find that the town guard has already sent Ian in to investigate, maybe we work together reluctantly at first but end up recruiting a new member.
Just throwing ideas out there, I think part of the problem in the last game was that we did not really discuss party formation and we all kinda had different goals

I think that is an excellent idea. It will be much easier to start off our one-shot if your group already knows each other.

So I'm thinking Variant Winged Tiefling Rouge. Female. Name: Penumbra.
Any objections? Suggestions?
Are we starting at level 3 or is that the level we are expected to reach in this adventure?
I'm thinking a non-combat fighter (Oxymoron, I know)
Name: Ian "Raven-eye" Lightbane.
He is a member of the town guard. He is here to investigate the paranormal activity. He is basically a detective.

I think we could be a team created by some authorities to investigate the case. We do not need to know each other.
In response to Kolbitr's question, your characters will be starting at level 3.

Time to roll for stats.
1 4 4 3 = 11
2 6 1 3 = 10
6 4 2 2 = 14
2 5 5 2 = 15
5 5 5 4 = 8
6 3 5 2 = 13
Is it just me or did I just get the standard array?
It looks so. You know that you could use dice roller to create 4d6 drop 1 instead of pasting 1d6 so many times;)
We could know each other or like in COP movies from 80 "Kowalsky this is your new partner O T Jonson. Now you will work together"
BirdCopp, you can reroll both those sevens.
