Rook is able to make his way into the more prestigious sections of the Silvers (the merchant's district, where the Forged Cask and most of your shops are), the section that touches the Whitestone District. The wealth in this area makes the Eladrin's mouth water, and eyes sparkle at the thought of potential coin. Rook's able to see a handful of shops at his current intersection. He notices a shop on the corner with a sign hanging from the door reading Threaded, another shop behind him had a similar sign reading The Bound Tome, and off to the right of The Bound Tome a set of stairs led down into a basement like shop, reading The Bookbinder.
Rook, clad in his new finer clothes and letting his true face be seen to all, makes his way into The Bound Tome and takes a look around. He is curious to see what wares they have there and to size up the merchant of the house as well.
Rook makes his way into the shop, light came down from a glass ceiling giving the entire shop a golden hue. This was a two story shop, the center had a huge opening so you could see up, a spiral staircase was in the back corner opposite a small counter. Shelves and shelves of books adorned the walls, on both levels, a long wooden table sat in the middle of the first floor, directly under the sky light. There were no other patrons in the shop at the moment.
An old human man made his way up to rook, short gray hair, a finely crafted mustache. "Hello sir, I see on your face you're a fine pursuer of knowledge. Would I be correct in assuming that?" He gave a smile at Rook. "What can I help you acquire today my friend?"

"Well hello my good man! Yes, yes, thank you! The name's Gerald Valentine. I'm new in town, you see, and I've taken a fondness to the place. I thought this looked like perhaps the finest shop and simply had to come see!" Rook puts some effort into looking as if he is marveled by this place, curious to explore every inch as he looks up and down from floor to ceiling and all around repeatedly, an expression of wonder on his face. "Would you have any books about the history on this fine city, it's current important figures and establishments, perhaps? Oh and how about any sights or places I simply must visit? I'm always curious to learn all about a new place, you see!"
Rook patiently listens as the man responds to his inquiry, showing interest in any books he might recommend and giving the indication that he'll likely buy at least one of them, he simply can't decide yet. In the meantime, Rook is looking around for his own purposes. He keeps his eye out for any particularly unusual and/or valuable items, secret rooms, safes, or anything else of interest. He also pays attention to the sections of books, hoping there might be a few books on darker subjects, such as the Nine Hells, his patron Mephistopheles, Baalzebul, Azmodeus, or anything of the like. He will make no comment about such things if he spots them, simply making a mental note of it for later.
It looks like a fancy book store. You can't make out where any potential hiding spots would be.
You are not able to discern any boxes at the moment.
"Yes yes sir we have all sorts of information about this great city..." The man begins, naming books about the city. Great lineages of the rulers of the empire. Biographies and tomes of wars. He shows you three book in particular, one an overall history of Inham, one of the lineages, and one of sites within the empire and cities. "Now places that are within this area in particular, is The Bookbinder down below. A wonderful bar, with many great tomes to peruse."
"Hmmm, well, I can tell you are a man who knows his books! I bet you drive a hard bargain, eh? I'm a busy man so let's go ahead and skip all that, give me your best price for one of these books, eh?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Hmmm, tell you what, I'll think on it while I pay the Bookbinder a visit and I'll come back up after." He tries to take stock of the man's intent and reaction at his departure, wondering how firm he is on his price.
Rook thanks the man and excuses himself to head downstairs to the Bookbinder. He's intrigued about the tomes mentioned by the bookshop owner, and to see if they have wine from the Feyweir Vineyard.
Not sure if 35g a book is normal or extremely steep will roll history for that along with insight on the book seller's flexibility on that price. In the meantime to help move things along I'll roll perception on the Bookbinder up on entering as well before speaking to the bartender there and looking more closely at the tomes they have there.
The man gives a curt nod, and says that the he will hold the books for Rook for the rest of the day. He wishes him a farewell, and to enjoy his time downstairs.
Walking out and around the building to the stairs that lead down to the Bookbinder Rook stands at the entrance and looks around. The street starts a few feet above his head, Rook would think generally that this would be some back alley seedy bar where you could hire an assassination, if it wasn't within such a pristine section of town. Rook opens the big old oaken door, and it swings freely as if it were 5 times lighter than it actually was. He was met with a dark room, candles where on the tables, candles that seemed to never drip any wax, the golden orbs that Rook had seen throughout the city where spaced through out, but instead of the bright light they kept a dim glow, the perfect amount to read or have a nice conversation in a corner. A long bar of a deep dark wood was on left of the room. When looking at the bar on the left back wall where an assortment of different liquors, the middle different barrels of what Rook assumed was wines as he was able to make out Feyweir Vineyard, and then on the right different casks of what Rook could only assume were ales as they were bigger barrels.
On the back wall opposite the bar, and along the wall opposite the front entrance stood a book shelf floor to cieling full of books. From what Rook could tell they were arranged a very particular way, but they spanned a vast many of subjects from lineages to farming, from adventure to romance books, books about legends and myths all adorned these walls. A small gnome stood next to a little desk in the center of the wall opposite the bar, his back to the books. A single bar keep, a human male was at the bar drying a glass. There were a handful of patrons in the bar, spread out, some having conversations and others just enjoying a drink.
I wouldn't say book are necessarily expensive here in Inham, but these are REALLY nice books. Leatherbound, with some kind of intricate inlay in the covers.
On when you enter the Bookbinder i do need to ask one question to see if you potentially have more information. Do you have Detect Magic up?
Rook grins at the sight of the Bookbinder's interior. Ill intent or not, he likes the place. He is pleased to see at least one of the Feyweir vintages on hand as he makes his way over to the bar. The eladrin sits down in his fine clothes and smiles at the bartender, greeting him with a friendly "Hello!", all the while scanning the room for magic.
Yes Rook would have Detect Magic up at just about all times. This is especially true when venturing into a new place, whether it be in a dungeon or simply a new place like the Bookbinder. It would also be true whenever people are around. He's always watching for unique and valuable items to steal, as he was doing upstairs in the book shop. Rook might allow himself to relax and not concentrate on this a) when in his own private room and very tired, after an initial sweep, of course, b) when sleeping, or rather meditating since he's an elf, or c) perhaps other random places where he decides to relax and not remain super vigilant and focused on his concentration, such as while strolling down a country road with no one in sight.
I'm happy to include in my RP posts more that Rook focuses on his detect magic when entering a new place such as this, a good reminder for us both.
"Hello sir. Welcome to the Bookbinder. Can I fancy you a drink?" The human says as he takes his free hand and gives a sweeping gesture across the different drinks on the wall behind him. "We also have a collection of books to peruse, Yewin would be glad to help you finding a perfect book to sit back and have a drink with." He says as he points to the Gnome opposite of him.
Ok i just wanted to make sure.
So behind you, you notice some kind of magic on the books. There seems to be some kind of alarm spell placed on them, it seems to be a kind of magic that you haven't encountered before.
You also get a feeling of some kind of magic in the back of the building, on this floor. You do see a hallway in one corner with a door and someone standing outside of the door at attention.
Rook is intrigued by the selection of books here but is disappointed to see that they are so well protected with an alarm spell that is beyond him to fully understand. The intrigue of what is down the hallway, however, makes up for it. Rook ponders coming back in his work attire later to investigate further.
"Hello, thank you! Gerald Valentine's the name. I'm new in town and heard this was a place I simply must enjoy. On that note, what local vintages do you have? I love to try out the local berry, if you will, wherever I go!"
Rook waits patiently for the bartender to list off however many vintages he has before choosing, of course, a Feyweir variety. He swirls it, sniffs it, and eventually takes a sip before declaring, regardless of his true opinion, that he finds it to be quite nice. "That is quite good, actually. Fascinating! Where did you say this was from again? Tell me about this Feyweir Vineyard, if you would! Where is it located and who is the owner? I may just have to pay them a visit and see this all myself. Perhaps they do some sampling there, eh?" He does his best to gather all of the basic information about the Vineyard that he can just by acting as an enthusiastic wine drinker, mostly information many in town would know, and doing his best to not ask anything too out of the ordinary.
So is this entirely underground? Just curious about windows to misty step in or out of later if Rook comes back to investigate what is in the back of the building.
