Rook notices different weapons he could use around the racks on the front, those seem mostly common weapons. Some swords, and other bows, it would require a closer look to actually see what is there. Rook can tell that the back wall has what seems to be better weapons, but from his stance it looks like a mess of weapons and he can't really tell which would be of better quality or just ornamental (would require an investigation check, and a few moments).
Searching with Mage Hand over the counter and its edges Rook doesn't feel anything. His Detect Magic is giving him an aura from underneath the counter. Seeing a sliding door, he can only assume it's behind it. Being on the first floor he feels the strong aura from the basement still, being closer this seems like something he hasn't encountered before. Almost like magic placed on some kind of object that innately hides magic.
Rook uses his Mage Hand to open the sliding door an continue to investigate what is under the counter. The stealthy rogue has yet to hear anyone else inside the Phoenix Forge, and decides this area is worth taking his time on. He hopes the counter will contain the items he seeks and there will be time left to investigate the weapons more closely and perhaps indulge his curiosity towards the strange magical force he senses in the basement.
Opening the door underneath the counter you hear a small barely audible creak. Commotion still going in the streets, but it's seeming to die down some. Within the cabinet lie an ornately decorated golden box along with a sack of what seems to be coins beside it.
Rook grins at the sight of what appears to be a worthwhile prize, even if it is not the primary one he seeks. The greedy elf is always on the look out for as much treasure as he can swipe, after all. He uses his mage hand to remove both box and coin from the counter, placing them on the floor. He then tries to open each one to verify their contents. Staying 10ft away (if possible) for the sake of safety, Rook takes not that the commotion outside is dying down a bit. He does not expect to have the run of the place forever without conflict, so he tries to stay low and hidden behind the counter, sword at the ready.
Opening the pouch first, figuring it would be coin and easy to walk away with, Rook grins as he sees gold and silver coins along with a couple of gemstones within the pouch. Next to the ornate box. He lifts the lid, it contains no latch. A smile gleams across his face as he looks within, four daggers blades cut of prized gemstones, blue sapphire, yellow diamond, red corundum, and emerald, and hilts ornately furnished with precious metals, laid across a bed of deep purple velvet. A heavy magical aura emanated from these blades, these had to be his mark.
From outside in front of the store you can hear voices, it seems the commotion has died down in the time of searching the building.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rook's eyes grow wide at the sight of his prize, and his lips curl into a sinister smile that drips of greed. He quickly snatches up all of the items and puts them in his bag while looking around the room for two things. He wants to hide before anyone enters, ideally in a place where it is unlikely that anyone would bother coming to in the middle of the night. He also wants to look for the location of the basement door so that he can explore this place a bit further. As always, Rook tries to keep a window in sight, ready to use his Fey talents to misty step out of the building if there is trouble he cannot handle.
Perception on room for hiding place, basement access, threats approaching: 18
Quickly glancing about the room Rook notices two doors on the back wall, one on either side. There are racks in the center of the shop filled with weapons, and a fireplace underneath the stairs it came down not much else is standing out to him.
Rook hears muffled voices outside, and can't be sure where exactly from or the words being said. Then it strikes him and he realizes, as he notices the door knob of the front door is slowly turning about to let someone into the shop.
Already reaching into a pocket, Rook swiftly pulls out his calling card. A wooden chess piece, or Rook's best effort at one, painted in red and with his own unique rune on the bottom resembling several of the infernal symbols in his 'spell book' appears in the dextrous elf's hand and is swiftly placed where the box of daggers used to be. The alert rogue notices guests at the door and makes a quick dash toward the back room, his mage hand sliding the door under the counter closed as he departs and dissipating when it is finished with its work.
The quick thinking Eladrin surveys this new rook looking for either access to the basement or a good place to hide.
Rushing through the door Rook lands himself in a spacious kitchen and dining room. Cook utensils hung across the cieling over an island, an oven and sink on one wall. Before him stood a rather large oak table, with matching bench chairs. Straight ahead stood a door, that Rook could tell from the windows on either side, lead to an backside alley. On his right stood another door, partially open, it leads to stairs and a basement of some kind.
Rook quickly surveys the room and keeps moving swiftly towards the back of the room. He eyes the window and knows his job is all buy complete, but his eyes fall upon the basement door. He hesitates for a split second, but curiosity and greed easily win out, and he makes a turn towards the basement door. The elf leans against the wall next to the door and listens briefly for any sounds from below, also taking that time to look for any trips around the door or near the top of the stairs. If hear hears and sees nothing of alarm, Rook will slip inside the partially opened door and peer down the stairs, slowly and quietly descending if there are no obvious threats, watching for trouble as he goes. He keeps his ability to detect magic active at all times, extremely curious as to white he might find below.
Rook sees no traps, and slowly makes his way down the stairs. Halfway through his foot causes the old wood to creak loudly, hopefully that can be passed off as just an old house settling.
Making his way to the basement he steps in a small room, more of an entry way. A giant stone wall stood in front of him, with a six foot high and wide circular vault door. This is where he was feeling that strong magical aura, as it is almost pounding into him now that he's this close to it. The vault was made of some kind of metal, maybe some copper and steel alloy as it was a dark brown or copper mixed with that of a gray steel, something Rook's never seen before.
Other than the vault door, the room was an empty basement.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rook looks at the door curiously, thinking this may be a tough one to crack. He moves closer to investigate it and listen for any sound coming from the other side. As he does so he glances back up the stairs and at the room he is in, to see if there would be any place to hide if anyone where to join him. He tries to see if there are any gaps around the door or any keyholes, as he may be able to use a bit of magic to help him here.
Pondering the viability of Misty Step here, such as through a keyhole, or mage hand to try and open the door from the inside. I'm guessing a large vault door does not have a key hole you can see all the way through, however.
This giant vault door causes a pondering for Rook. There are five locks, four combinations, and the center a combination lock, but of runes, that is covered by four metal pins. Studying the door, Rook also realizes that all of the locks seem to have an arcane spell on them, this may be because they're trapped or just to prevent someone from using a simple spell to unlock them. The door itself does not seem to be magical, but Rook notices that the door and the locks are made out of different materials, the locks out of adamantine or some metal similar, and the door out of the alloy Rook has never seen. No key holes are visible, or even cracks in the metal or surround wall.
The room is empty, there are no hiding places as even if a person hid under the stairs they are open. The room and house seem silent and still.
Velon focuses on his ability to detect magic, hoping to discern more about what is guarding these locks, such as the type of magic. He also ponders the door and wall in general, wondering what tools or powers he may need to acquire, or request from his patron, to gain entry into this place. Could he drill through the wall and then use his fey abilities, he wonders?
Using the Action aspect of the spell, hoping to learn the school of magic per Detect Magic. Curious to see if it is perhaps Abjuration or more something violent like Evocation to decide if Rook would proceed.
Insight on future tactics for this place, with either better tools to drill a small hole through the wall or spells to dispel magic, etc: 13
This seems pretty daunting, so I imagine you are prepared for Rook to just leave and ponder this place for a while. He's greedy but knows his limits to some degree. Perhaps this is even something you intend for him to tackle at a higher level later on.
Rook is able to discern that the different wards on this door, as there are multiple come from both the Abjuration and the Evocation schools of magic. He's not able to discern exactly what would happen if he starts trying to work the locks. Through the detect magic spell Rook makes out the magical aura of the vault. It's vast, it seems that the aura encompasses the entirety of the vault, floor, walls, and ceiling. Rook knows no vault is impenetrable, he also knows that some are a lot harder than others, and this is one of those. Better tools may help break this metal barrier, he just doesn't know if they will trip the magical wards. This would take some careful planning.
Rook would know that this vault currently surpasses his abilities. That it would require much higher magic and abilities, and potentially others help.
Rook is both disappointed and intrigued, as the greater difficulty here may some day yield greater rewards if he can return and crack this vault. What I'd really like is to watch someone else enter this place, he thinks. He briefly ponders what types of magic would allow him to watch this place day and night, but knows he must move.
The stealth elf makes his way back up the stairs, hoping to avoid the step that creaked the worst. He peers through the doorway in the kitchen area, looking for any movement. If there are no threats, he will make his way to the back door and check it for traps and locks. If easy to open, Rook will proceed on opening it slowly, hoping to avoid any further noise, and slip out into the alleyway after a quick check of his surroundings.
The vile Eladrin is still pleased, he has accomplished his goal and may have found a bigger mark for the future.
Rook makes his way into the kitchen, skipping across the most creaky step, but some of the house creaks as any old house would. In the door way to the kitchen Rook sees the coast is clear and scurries across to the back door. See there were no traps, and a simple lock he could turn to let himself out he steps into the cool air of the back alley. No guards were in the alley. Looking up to the night sky Rook could just barely make out small amounts of black smoke rising from his fire.
Rook will make a swift exit from the area, whether it be simply moving through the shadows at the street level or doing so over the rooftops. He will save his fey misty step for emergencies, including a fall from a roof. If he encounters anyone who sees him, however, action may be taken.
Once away from the immediate area, Rook dons his traveling cloak and uses his minor illusions to make himself appear as the white haired, blue eyed elf that is 'in the employ of the one they call Rook'. He takes his time returning to the Forged Cask, taking an indirect route through an unnecessary part of town to see if he has any unwanted attention and try to slip any followers.
Rook makes his way through the town. Not seeing anyone of importance, it seemed his fire caused a bigger diversion than he thought it would. It takes him the better part of an hour and a half but Rook reaches the Forged Cask with out any problems. Coming inside the tavern is emptying a little. Few patron were still around, drinking their fill, while others had left for the night, as the hour was late.
What would you like to do? Your room is upstairs. You spot Bree still working about the Tavern, as well as Axe in a corner scanning around the bar.

Rook, disguised as the same man that was here to receive the note before, reenters the Forged Cask and sees Bree there. The one who refers to himself as 'Fillion Pinth' approaches the bar and waits for Bree to come back, clutching his cloak to keep his crimson leather armor hidden. When she returns he looks at her through faux blue eyes and quietly says "hello, fair Bree, I'm retiring to my room but would you be able to bring me a bit of a late night snack, a shot of fine whiskey and some water there?" "I'm considering staying a while and would like to discuss a few terms about my accommodations with you or your boss in private, if you would have me?"
'Fillion' gives Bree a small wink and awaits her response, otherwise heading up to his room. Before Bree appears he focuses his Detect Magic on the daggers and the box they are in, hoping to learn of their magical properties. He ponders the value of the box itself, and if he should keep it for profit, simply handing over the daggers as requested. He does need to recoup some coin and buy the basic supplies he needs, after all. He really shouldn't be wearing his red armor all the time.
Insight as to value of box: 14
Totally forgot to have Rook go back for some of the nicer weapons on the wall. Oh well, he'll probably return there soon. That vault alone has me pondering going with pact of the chain, so I can get a sick familiar to sit in there and watch night and day. I had pondered getting a familiar for Rook later through magic initiate or something, but chain familiar's are even better. Hard to give up a second attack via blade and a second chance to land a sneak attack each round though. Hmmm...
