AFTER RETURNING VICTORIOUS from your last notable quest as an adventuring team, your reputation has skyrocketed to new heights. The city of Waterdeep shows its respects by hosting you in its finest accommodation, the Venixia Quiver, free of charge for some well deserved down time.
During your stay, you see a number of high profile individuals conducting either business or pleasure. One such individual by the name of Ruven Venixia approaches your table while you’re sitting down for a quiet ale. He inquires if you are all enjoying your stay at ‘The Quiver’ and whether this level of comfort is something you are interested in maintaining. His proposition: A generous payment of services to travel with him to an uncharted island, aid him in mapping it and establish one of the world’s finest, most exclusive retreats. Ruven offers the party 1500gp worth of diamonds, rubies and gold as initial payment, and an additional 1500gp worth on completion of the quest.
This is play test, home brew material which I am excited to run to see how it goes. If you are interested, I am looking for four to five players, starting level 3. You can expect to be roughly 12th level by the end with good play. A few things to consider:
1. Standard array or point buy only, UA material is allowed, take average HP up to level three. 2. You begin with starting equipment or gold, 3 potions of healing and one uncommon magic item. 3. We’re after at least one post per day. 4. Milestone experience. 5. Encumberance rules are in effect, as I never use these and wish to give them a go.
This will be fairly relaxed, if you can’t post for a while, just let me know, no dramas! Sometimes I may roll for your character or use passive ability scores to keep the ball rolling story wise, but will never endanger your character.
A little about me: DM to two campaigns irl, player in two PBP. From NSW, Australia. Hoping to publish the adventure so feedback is welcome at certain points throughout the adventure. I like to provide visual aids with my story, and I want to improve my creative writing skills!
A little about you: Where you from? How new are you to dnd? A little about your character you wish to play and their magic item (no home brew items please).
My friend and I are looking to join a game as players. He has a warrior, I can roll a cleric or a rogue, whichever you prefer. Please consider us! If accepted I can write up a little about ourselves.
Hey, guy from American Midwest. I’ve DM’d irl, starter kit and a brief magic techno drug bust campaign (weird night, super fun to dm). I’ve only been a player in PbP campaigns here. I’d like to play a lovably stupid half orc fighter (original I know) that wants to save up enough money to afford his own island resort to manage in his retirement. (A ambition he only recently acquired, imagine that). Uncommon item undecided because I’m currently at the gym. Probably something fighter related
(Edit: i can go barbarian, or something else if fighter is taken
I'm from South Australia and I've been playing D&D on and off since 2e. Huge fan of FR but I also love Ravenloft & Planescape.
I'd like to join as Nia Redfallow a warlock who's made a pact with a fiend, she's younger than most adventurers at 16 being a prodigy at magic. The uncommon magic item I'm looking at is a Bag of Holding.
Wow, this definitely looks interesting. And you're looking to publish? That sounds pretty cool.
I've been into D&D for just under 2 years now. Started with a deep dive into 3.5 that didn't last very long as I couldn't get into a group, then picked up 5e and haven't looked back. For the most part I DM, two current campaigns irl plus another two on indefinite hiatus due to scheduling issues. DM another campaign online via Discord and Roll20. Playing in only two games currently, via PBP.
Not sure what kind of character I'd want to play for this, so I'll probably wait to see what other characters come up first. I've done a fair bit of creative writing and world-building myself (two of the campaigns I've run/am running have been in my own homebrew world) and I'd be more than happy to give feedback as we go along.
Edit: I live in Memphis, TN, so CST. But I also work nights so my schedule is a bit weird for my time zone.
Liam Ulrich, Yuan-ti Pureblood Wizard (still trying to decide on school)
Backstory
Born to Y'velda Ulrich, a reasonably successful "attendant" at the Siren's Embrace brothel in Kythyss, but was immediately surrendered to an orphanage following his birth. Didn't actually know anything about his mother until he was 16, and still knows nothing about who his father might have been except that he must have been a Yuan-ti Pureblood.
Grew up running the streets of the port city, usually alone as he exhibited a markedly cold and calculating demeanor and didn't get along well at all with his fellow orphans. His time in the orphanage came to an end not long after his 9th birthday, when he started to grow patches of green scales on his torso, inadvertently revealing his Yuan-ti heritage. He spent the next 3 years living completely on the streets, stealing to get by and evading authorities as best he could.
Eventually he would come to the attention of Baulder Stormheart, the resident arcanist of Kythyss, who would take pity on him and take him under his tutelage, doing his best to temper the young boy's understandably darker tendencies from both his heritage and his harsh childhood.
If you're unaware, "Kythyss" is a small port city on the isle of Alaron in the Moonshae Isles, west of the Sword Coast across the Sea of Swords. He's only 21, as he only recently left his mentor's tutelage to begin adventuring and learning on his own. That said, I could easily see him as a kind of big brother figure to Ria.
He knows some information on both counts, but none of it direct. He never actually got to meet his mother. He discovered what little he knows about her after Baulder took him in, but she died before he could actually track her down. On the Yuan-ti side of things, he's never actually met a single other yuan-ti (that he knows of) and knows nothing of their culture beyond what Baulder has told him directly of that he's found in books. None of what he's heard is at all encouraging, which doesn't really help his self-image very much.
Upper Midwest US location. Have played DnD IRL since 2nd Ed. Currently playing a 5e campaign via Roll20.net with a mix of a group of friends from previous campaigns and new folks on Saturday mornings. I haven't played a PbP campaign yet, I want to. (The last one I got in dissolved in drama) I eventually would like to learn how to DM a PbP game.
I haven't decided on a character yet. I typically play fighters, clerics or rogues, but am open to playing anything.
Gregor. That’s it, he doesn’t have a last name, unless signing legal documentation in which case it’s the last name of the first party member in his sight/mind. -Half Orc (Fighter/Barbarian/Maybe some UA class like mystic)
Gregor is a tall, even for a half orc. In fact if it wasn’t for the fact that he’s a bean pole in stature/build, he could probably pass for a full orc. Aside from a hoge podge of scars across his face that have a different story every time he’s asked about them, he’s rather handsome for a half orc. Short buzzed cut ginger hair, and a variety of glittering ear and finger rings adore his (class dependent) clothing.
He’s a very happy go lucky kind of guy. Generally good hearted, with a bit of a michvious streak, he tells many tall tales about himself and his past that often contradict themselves if you listen closely. He’s got good street smarts, but isn’t formally educated, and often plays up that stereotype around others, but sit him down for a game of cards and you’ll find yourself penniless.
I’ll send a PM to players tomorrow with a link to the campaign. In the meantime, feel fre to post your character ideas as you guys would have already travelled and adventured together for a little while. :)
<brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp> Welcome everyone! I'm Chubby Beersmith, a Mountain Dwarf fighter. <hic> Ready to drink....errrr.....fight! Yeah! A little about me: I currently live in Denver, Colorado (USA). I've played D&D off and on since back in the stone age (I started with AD&D 1st edition in the early 1980s), and played extensively through college. Then, life interrupted for a while, and now I've gotten back into the swing of role-playing again maybe five years ago. I've been on DND Beyond for a handful of months now (this will be my third campaign) - mainly for PbP forum games.

Hello, I live in Washington State (PST). I played an extremely small amount of D&D about 16 years ago, but no campaign ever took off. I played a full IKRPG campaign approximately 6-7 years ago, and haven't gotten into anything since. I just recently (2 weeks ago) got a local post out and wrangled up a DM and 4 other people and we've started a bi-weekly Friday night D&D 5e campaign. This would be my first ever PbP, so I might have some general questions about linking items, rolling, etc. I see that there is already a list of people signed onto the campaign, but I'll post my thoughts here, and if someone drops I'll at least have something posted here if you are looking for more/other people.
CHARACTER CONCEPT:
Name: Tea Twospoons
Race: Deep Gnome
Class: Rogue (Undecided on Archetype, but thinking of Arcane Trickster - I haven't had a chance to read them all, but will do so)
Background: Charlatan
Backstory: Tea Twospoons was born Duddle Luckless. His family was incredibly poor, and because of this Duddle was teased and excluded from participating in games with other local children. Initially Duddle was a loner, seeking but never finding friendship. When he was 10 years old, Duddle met Thelkil Rubypresser, a deep gnome of some less-than-savory-but-not-outright-dastardly repute. Thelkil took a shine to Duddle and began mentoring him in the ways of skulduggery. As a youth Duddle learned how to manipulate the emotions and attentions of potential marks, while using his dexterous fingers to lighten the purses of those wealthy individuals whose families had mocked and snubbed him as a child. Most of his early criminal activity was common breaking and entering. While the other, wealthier families children would play together Duddle would sneak to one of their homes, pick the lock, and sneak inside. Once inside he would find some minor trinkets or jewelry to swipe, and deliver the goods to Thelkil. He would be praised and receive a small cut of the profits once Thelkil had hocked the items.
When Duddle was in his 40s his abilities were becoming finely honed. Thelkil, an old gnome by this time and slowly losing his adeptness in the roguish arts began to utilize Duddle in more daring and dangerous grifts. Upgrading from home invasions, and pickpocketing, Thelkil asked Duddle to frequent some of the local shops and begin casing them for opportunities to make larger scores. After a few such shops had their small deposit safe cracked and the weeks earnings removed, the local shopkeepers went to constabulary and asked that they increase patrols around the mercantile district. With another heist already planned, Duddle was unaware of the increase in security patrols. Thelkil was already too old to continue participating in grifts, and as he had aged, his other disciples had left him in favor of younger, larger underground outfits. Only Duddle had remained loyal to the man who had plucked him from the streets and taught him skills with which he had reclaimed his dignity and taken some of the digninty from those who looked down at him. So it came to pass that Thelkil and Duddle had no ears on the street but each other and failed to hear about the increase in guard patrols. That evening, Duddle had stolen into the local herbalists shop. While he was pilfering the small safe, moonlight's reflection off a small display caught his eye. WIth coin in hand, Duddle saw a pair of matching silver teaspoons encrusted with small gems in their handles. He went to lift them from the wall, and in a moment of carelessness, the spoons clattered to the floor, ringing off one another. Duddle quickly scooped up a pair of the spoons and bolted for the unlocked back door.
At the same moment Duddle was dropping the spoons, a guard was passing by the rear of the herbalists shop and heard the clatter from inside. Checking the door and finding it unlocked, the guard entered cautiously and ran straight into Duddle's bolting form. Both were surprised as coins and silverware went flying into the air and clattering onto the ground. Duddle, recovering his wits first, struck out ferally and unthinking at the guard, piercing their neck with his small dagger. The guard, clutching at his neck, the artery now pulsing blood between his fingers and pouring down his vestments, slumped to the floor, eyes wide in shock and terror. Duddle watched, frozen in place, as the gleam of life left the guard's eyes and his lifeless form stared endlessly into Duddles' soul. Duddle, unnerved and terrified began to scoop up what gold he could that wasn't being enveloped by the pooling blood of the guard. Picking up the teaspoons, Duddle starred once more at the guards haunting eyes before placing the spoons over them to hide his shame and release himself from the terror. As Duddle exited the herbalist shop in a panic, he came face to face with 3 more guards, alerted to the area by the earlier sound of the coins hitting the floor, they had been searching the area for the exact location of noise. Duddle dropped his dagger and the coins on the ground and sunk to his knees. The silhouette of the dead guard clearly visible inside the shop.
Duddle spent 30 years in a dungeon cell before finally working out an escape and vanishing into the night. With only one place to go he sought out his old mentor Thelkil, only to find that he had passed away a few years after Duddle was jailed. With nowhere to go and much to atone for, Duddle sought out Thelkil's long hidden stash of goods, and took from it his mentors' prized possession, a Bag of Holding. He then travelled hundreds of miles away to escape his name and reputation. Taking up the moniker Tea Twospoons, a reference to the atrocity he performed that fateful night, Tea began using the skills he had acquired toward more noble purposes. While he still steals from selfish, self-indulgent nobles who ignore and look down upon the poorer folk of the world, Tea made a vow to weigh heavily any life that he might take, and to never carelessly or needlessly cause physical harm to come to others. As he developed his philosophy, Tea began to perform small tasks and odd-jobs for locals as he passed through towns. With his reputation growing, Tea was eventually noticed and recruited by an adventuring group and his renown grew with each victory the group achieved.
After being approached by Ruven Venixia to help map an uncharted island and build an exclusive resort, Tea became nearly zealously dedicated to showing his worth during the expedition and using his reputation to persuade Ruven to also open up the island to the less wealthy members of Waterdeep and any who come seeking some respite from the toils of their daily lives. To be allowed to stay for even a short while and be treated with dignity and respect would go a long way in Tea's eyes toward solving some of the disparity of wealth in the world, and mending the fissure between the wealthy elite and the commoner. This endeavor would also help Tea by giving those who grew up in a similar situation to his own the opportunity to see what may be achieved through hard work and dedication to making the world a better place.
Aaaaaaaand, that is all I can think of this evening. Tired and sleep is taking me away. Cheers!
I live in Europe. I've been playing DnD 3.5, Warhammer 1,2 and some smaller RPG. Now i try to bite the 5e on PBP
I would like to join and playtest it. This is my character
Inquisitor Jason
Human (Variant), Paladin, Oath Of Conquest , Haunted One, Mag Slayer (Feat)
For Jason there is no good magic. Only powers given by GODs can be trusted. Wizards, Sorceress ..well all of them will end twisted by the hunger of power.
His real name was Edward. He was a blacksmith. She made him do it. She put a spell on him and he could not resist. He had killed all people in the village. Good heroes saved him from the evil witch charm but all of them died with the witch final spell. That spell put whole village in fire.
Jason could not stand it. The memory was killing him from inside. They found him drunk in some tavern at the end of the world. The monks from monastery knew his story.
"Brother we need you. This world needs you. Make it pure again"
From now on he is known as Inquisitor Jason
Black cloak with gold sign of god TALON. On his armour you can see signs of spells that were cast against him. On his face and hands you can see scars from the fire that destroyed his old village.

Ok, first in, best dressed I suppose!

Moonknight, welcome. Sounds like your character is well suited for this endeavour!

I can roll up a cleric healer, or an investigator rogue - i'm good with either one. Whichever you could use.
My friend o_Merlin_o has a dwarven fighter.
So far we have:
Crispy- Cleric or rogue. Merlin- Dwarven Fighter. Moonknight- Half Orc Fighter or Barb. Rivina- Warlock. NeoMagus- Yuan-ti Wizard.
Prefer character sheets on dnd beyond, but if you can’t manage it, that’s ok, just make a placeholder character.

Cheers!
