[DM] I'm big on whispering details to players when they investigate or have private conversations. I like to let the you decide how much you choose to share with one another. I don't always do it, because it's sometimes inconvenient. I will probably do it a lot in this game though. Moving forward, I will make a little DM note like this, letting you know that I whispered you. Flow, I'm composing a private message to you with the results of your investigation.
Upon seeing Flow and Hildigrim snooping around, Bran says:
"Really? Arandell is nice enough to enough to accommodate us here, and both of you are rifling through his stuff? It ain't easy running a tavern, ya know"
Bran pours himself another cider and takes a seat. "And I guess we wait again..."Bran pulls some dried meat from another pocket and holds in in front of Pax (his weasel familiar), trying to entice him awake. Pax yawns and stretches, then takes the meat from Bran. After eating he climbs up and rests on Brans shoulder.
Hildigrim pours a mug of ale and sniffs it as he walks over to the seat across from Bran. He sits and takes a taste. "Indeed," he says appreciatively. "Better than most I've enjoyed this far south in Waterdeep. You generally have to venture into Castle Ward for spirits this delectable." He drinks deeply and then looks at the weasel. "Mustela nivalis," he says nonchalantly. At Bran's confused look, Hildi points at Pax. "Your weasel. Its scientific classification is mustela nivalis." Hildi smiles politely and takes another draft of his ale.
Carrow's veneer of calm cracks slightly as he makes his way through the cellar. He mutters to himself, "You're out, you're free. Breathe." He inhales deeply and lets out an extended exhale. "Where might this priest be? Seems awfully clandestine for such a meeting." While waiting for their contact to arrive, Carrow searches the cellar for any sign of another way into or out of the cellar, should the need arise.

After a few minutes Alandell comes clattering down the stairs. He says ,"Thanks for waitin' good sers. Wait just one moment while I grab the supplies".
Alandell crosses the room, reaches under his desk and pulls out a fairly large wooden footlocker, made with solid iron bands. Alandell unlocks the footlocker with a large key on a key ring that he produces from his belt pouch. The barkeep pulls out a large duffle-sized ruck sack, walks down into the wine alcove a plops it on the table. He unties the tether on the bag and then motions to it.
"There ye go"
Alandell pauses for moment with a look of accomplishment on his face. Then a thought dawns on him.
"Oh yeah!" Alandell startes patting his shirt pocket and the searching the inside of his vest. He produces a sealed letter from an inner pocket and says, "Yer supposed to read this first".
Alandell sets the letter on the bag and steps back, putting his back against the wine racks with arms crossed. Watching the lot of you and waiting.
Inside the bag are 5 pouches, each containing 25 gold dragons (gp). You also find a small, yet beautifully intricate hourglass, set into an electrum frame. Beneath the purses of gold is a gigantic black feather. Maybe two feet long. One smaller purse is tucked to the side, containing two small vials of red liquid (2 potions of healing).
Hildi grits his teeth as he fights the urge to snatch up the letter.
OOC: Are the five pouches of 25 dragons the first pouches we were promised? Or are these the second pouches? Also, what are dragons? Are they figurines we would have to trade for GP?

[DM] These are the second pouches. You have recieved 50gp each from Jerub now. Dragons are just the casual name for Gold coins on the Sword Coast. Just trying to keep it realistic. Here is a little coin tracker I made. It will be Lord's Alliance currency 90% of the time. Also, I will try to always tag it with (gp) or (sp) when I use the casual names.
Similar in color to a raven's feather, but you can't fathom a raven of that would produce this size of a feather. You're not sure what kind of bird would...
Barrel eyes the feather for a moment thinking it would look good in his hat while he scoops up the letter and reads it before grabbing his coin pouch from the box.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Barrel reads the letter to himself at first before clearing his throat and reading it out loud to everyone.
Kindly Adventurers,
I apologize deeply for my absence. I have been drawn away from the City of Splendors on gravely important business. Fear not good adventurers, for you can still complete your job, and I shall pay you an extra 10% each as an apology for my absence. The rucksack in front of you contains the second half of your downpayment and a few items that should be most helpful on your quest.
The artifact that I seek is an ancient black orb, not but the size of an apple. Scholars call the orb Putris Corruptis. It is an ancient artifact of great necromantic power. My colleagues and I wish consecrate the orb and rid our brothers on the other side of it’s evil, for the city through the well is dark enough without the prowling undead.
The artifact is located in a desecrated tomb of the order of Kelemvor. The tomb lies in a dark and magical place. Clear the tomb and retrieve the orb, so my resting brothers might be consecrated by the pious clerics on the other side.
Take the black feather from the bag. Burn it over the well and drop it inside. Say the incantation written below in unison as the burning feather drifts into the darkness below. This will open the shadowcrossing. Jump down the well, and you will find yourself climbing out the other side.
Find the tomb in a great graveyard there, and retrieve the Putris Corruptis! I would give you a map, but it will do no good where you are going. You will have to pinpoint the location once you arrive.
This may sound strange, but you must trust me. Once you have crossed over, you only have three days to complete your quest and return through the well, or the crossing will close behind you, sealing you in Gloomwrought.
I know this sounds crazy, but you must trust me. I will give you 100 dragons (gp) each upon your return, and I will give you MUCH higher paying work in the future.
This is the incantation for the feather:
ጥላዎች እኛን ይረዱናል. ሽፋኖች ምሽት ይሁኑ
ps. The hourglass is called a “gnomish stopwatch”. It will help you track the time while there is no sun in the sky. Whisper to the hourglass, “a stitch in time, saves nine”, and the device will count exactly nine hours, no matter which way you tip it. You can ask it to keep track of any number of hours, so long as it’s nine or less. Most importantly; DON’T TOUCH THE ORB BARE-HANDED! Be careful and we I shall see you soon.
Godspeed,
Jerub the Gray Senior Magister - Order of Kelemvor
