Barrel watches the gnome take the letter and shrugs. " Maybe you'll understand it more friend Bran. Another place to go spread my name and gain more fame," Barrel says with a smile. "Anyone else hear of this Gloomwrought place? I've never heard of it."
He absently plays on the drum as he walks around the room studying the other people in his group. He stops when he notices Flow.
"Barrel Jynx oh noble one." Barrel says to Flow as he bows deeply. " I haven't seen one of your kind in some time. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." (Barrel wants to do a perception check on the group to see if he notices anything odd about them. 6 or if it's insight 11)
OOC: DM, I have a question about skill checks. How do you feel about multiple characters performing the same skill checks? For instance, if three characters are interrogating someone and one does an insight check, but rolls badly, can another or others also do their own insight checks on the same person in hopes of rolling higher? I know some DMs prefer everyone to work together and one character rolls with advantage if they're "being helped." I'm not sure how that would work in PbP since we're not really working all together.
Hildigrim, being who he is, would want to analyze everything about the bag and letter. Just in case, I'll go ahead and post the rolls. You can toss out anything you don't want to honor.
Nature check on the feather: 16
Check on whether I've read anything further about the orb: History: 16 (-2 if it's religion)
Ditto on Gloomwrought/Kelemvor: History: 7 (-2 if it's religion)
And on the hourglass: Investigation?: 23 (-2 if it's a wisdom saving throw)
Hildigrim picks up one of the bags of dragons and tucks it into his pack after weighing it in his hand distractedly. His eyes are traveling over the contents of the sack curiously.
Bran studies the runes for about ten minutes. He sits down at the table and starts scribbling at the bottom of the letter with a piece of writing charcoal that was left on the table. The magical cipher used in the incantation is not a popularly used one, but Bran does recognize it. After a few minutes of decoding, Bran is able to translate the incantation.
"Dark shadow, black gate, open now this hour late."
Barrel doesn't recognize the runes. They look more or less like squiggles and jibberish to him.
Flow has never read of heard of Gloomwrought. [DM] I'm PM'ing the rest of the results to you, Flow. As fas as skill checks, I will certainly ask some of you to do a different skill check than the one used at some point. As fas as doubling up, I'm pretty much always okay with it when it come to information recall skills like History, Arcana, and Nature. Certain things like bashing down a door max out at two or three players, at which point it becomes "assisting", where one lends advantage to the other. You as a player can always say "I assist so-and-so with this check by doing such and such". If it seems legitimate I will agree. I also use group checks sometime for stealth, perception and other skills, where the group fails if more than half of you don't meet the DC.
After scribbling it down in his little notebook, Bran says, "Well this is most fascinating!" and reads out the translation of the incantation.
"But where do you suppose this graveyard is? There doesn't appear to be any specifics or directions in his instructions, and he sure didn't leave us a map. I love maps."
Barrel turns towards Bran after he reads the translation of the runes and smiles. Barrel taps on his drum quietly and mutters a few simple words that he's used thousands of times during his performances. (I want to cast a minor illusion of a map in front of bran. On the map is a well, coming from the well are footprints that go a few inches and stop at a big X in a graveyard)
"Yes friend Bran, maps are fun and very helpful. I'm sure we will be able to find the graveyard once we are through the well. The bigger question is who is going to be the keeper of time while we are there?" Barrel looks worried as he paces around the room. "If we are to get stuck in such a foul place, how will my name and fame be spread throughout Faeurun? I cannot be the best if people cannot see my performances."
Barrel pulls out his daggers and juggles as if to prove a point. 14 (Performance) "The world needs to see this."
As Barrel begins to juggle he stumbles and his daggers fall to the ground with a clang. He gives a grin to the party members and bows deeply before retrieving his daggers.
"Fascinating." Hildigrim lowers the hourglass and looks toward the group. "OK, who wants to ferry the potions and this amazing hourglass? Not touching the orb won't be a problem," he says, lifting one hand and flexing his fingers, the tips of the gauntlet creating a slight tinking sound. "You were able to decipher the incantation at the end of Jerub's letter?"
"There is little time like the present. Let us be done with this deed as time appears to be of the essence." Carrow approaches the well, seemingly ready to depart. He turns to Flow, "I shall care for the potions if you would like to look after the artifact?"
"Thank you Alandell, It's been a pleasure working with you all week." Barrel says with a bow. "I hope to be back soon with a glorious tale to tell your patrons."
Barrel looks at the rest of the group and smiles. "I'm ready whenever you are. As for those potions, I'm not in need of them. I can heal if need be." Barrel looks towards Bran. "You're a Gnome good sir, Have you ever seen or used the hourglass? I don't want any part of keeping time. I'm afraid I will get us stranded within Gloomwrought if I were the timekeeper."

I'm liking this less and less, but I guess I already accepted the job...he thinks.
And that's all I have to say about that.

[OOC]- Missed the detail in the cellar description and there being a well down here! Yay for attention to detail right before bedtime.
Bran downs the rest of his cider in an impressive gulp, stands up a little too quickly, and lets out a tremendous belch.
"Whaa, that feels better!" He looks to everyone. "Well everyone? This Hour Late isn't getting any earlier"
"He picks up the feather inspecting it. I'm happy to perform the incantation unless someone else feels so inclined."
Hildigrim has picked up the hourglass and is inspecting it closely. "My pack contains a tinderbox if we require it," he says distractedly.
"Fascinating." Hildigrim lowers the hourglass and looks toward the group. "OK, who wants to ferry the potions and this amazing hourglass?
