Hey ya'll! So this'll be my first time DMing a 5e game via PbP, but this isn't my first time in GMing for a PbP game in general. I have done freeform roleplaying, and a few in forums where there are systems in place, and I am also currently DMing for 2 irl campaigns with a total of about 8 sessions. This game'll be set in a homebrew world of mine that I use for one of my irl campaigns and I'm using this one-shot as a sort of play-test. It won't go too deep into the lore of my world, so I won't share the full world document I gave to my players, but there will just maybe be a few small tidbits of info that I will share to you should you join. You will all start at level 1 and you will reach about 3rd level by the end. I will be using milestones for leveling.
A short description of the world:
Welcome to Mundi, an alternate earth where magic exists and etc. You know the works. The campaign itself is at the early middle ages with a few changes (the equivalent of the Roman Empire never fell, it was the Franks and not the Saxons that invaded England, Norse vikings invaded and annexed the northern half of Scotland, etc.). The only important history you'll need to know is stuff about the equivalent of Scotland (aka Pyctlund) which I won't go into detail here but will send some nuggets of info via PM.
The premise:
You are a fledgling, adventuring band of mercenaries that have just reached the town of Delving. You notice something strange about the town. The people look scared, terrified. Not of you, but of something else. The mayor takes note of your appearance and calls for you. He offers you a job. It sounds simple enough: go into the nearby mines and clear out whatever's in there. But something's wrong. You can feel it in the air, in the ground, and among the townspeople. There's something more... sinister.
Characters:
You can choose to use an already made character or you can make a character for the world provided you use the following rules:
We will start at level 1
We will use point-buy/standard array for attributes.
Only PHB classes and races (exceptions for Tabaxi, Aarakocra, and Goliaths)
If you want to play as a human, there are several ethnicities you can choose for flavor (These will be explained and given via PM)
Encumbrance is off for this game
Rules:
Post at least once or twice a day
I prioritize RP, so each time you do an action, specify reason and expected outcome as well as more details
PvP not allowed, but internal conflicts are encouraged
All slots available. PM me in case you want a reserved slot if someone leaves.
I'm interested in joining. I have a paladin I put together I've been wanting to try out. Started life as a soldier as soon as he was old enough, but left the army eventaully after getting his squad killed and devoted his life to (insert god name here. Any specific pantheon being used for the world) and became a paladin, deciding to spend the rest of his life trying to help people instead of just fighting other people's wars.
I'd love to join! i've never played a play by post game, so i may not know exactly how to do things but i'll catch on quick. I'd love to make some sort of Wizard to play! Let me know :)
I would love to join a d&d fantasy campaign with more of a historical feel! Interested in doing a female gnome witch (warlock) type pyct character with plan to be multclassed warlock/druid sort of flavor if something that is alright or possible though looking to be fluid in terms of race like half-elf or variant human if that is a better fit let me know to hammer something out.
It seems we have 5 players! Looming forward to a wonderful time with you all! I'll be sending each one of you the necessary lore as well as the ethnicities to those who will play as humans. If possible, maybe I can set up a discord group if that's okay with you guys.
I'd like to join with a monk if there's still space. I'm new to DnD as well.
Edit: To be more specific, my monk is a half-orc raised amongst a traveling circus troupe. His father figure was an old man that traveled with the troupe, ostensibly as a oft drunk vagabond, but the old man was actually a sage of the Way of the Drunken Master and the troupe's protector. Towards the end of his life, the old man passed on the basics of his technique and his technique manuscript to his son. (If using the Way of the Drunken Master doesn't work, I can switch to a different tradition).

I for one prefer using DDB campaign manager, seeing at least the character cards for others in the group, etc. and knowing the DM has easy access to my character sheet and details and using the PbP Thread Section to post for campaign is what DDB is at least in part is here for and works well enough for in character communications, rp and posts. However, that being said I think for PbP campaigns there is a lot of useless clutter with OOC messages and feel a separate OOC thread as being a waste of space since Discord works so much better, faster and more efficiently for OOC Communications, I only use text messages for it, you can easily check a box to prevent audio chat etc. Sometimes players feel more comfortable voicing their ideas and opinions OOC when it's not blasted out to the world at large so if we need to do OOC separately on DDB I would suggest having a PM OOC List with all the players and DM for a little added privacy. That is just my take on the whole thing but I am old school, DM's game, DM rules so I will accept and want to join however the DM cares to run it...
I was actually planning on having a discord chat as an OOC area so that the people reading have the benefit of not having their immersion ruined. I've only used DDB recently though (even if I made this account in 2017) so I don't have a full grasp at the features yet, but having all of our stuff on this site sounds a lot better than having an external place.

Yes, as BirdCopp mentioned we can do OOC Thread as PM, if you need some help setting that up I would be glad to lend a hand just let me know and I can even do that on my end once I know the full list of players you are looking to be part of the campaign. I run two PbP and really as a DM the campaign manager is must use to run a proper pbp here and keep track of things, players just see a basic character card with player name, character name, race, class and level not much but still has value for some of us as players. But the big new thing is DM can create characters themselves and assign or instruct player joining to pick up a specific character if using pre-made characters so always improving.
Anyway, I am open and willing to help where ever needed but I am also very into role play and immersion so like to do whatever possible to keep OOC a kind of separate thing or at the very least kept in a spoiler box with rolls and such. I agree would be nice do it all on DDB where possible, many want to avoid Discord so it is do-able.

I think we have two almost the same characters here. I can change it to something different
I could play Dwarf Fighter who loves brewing beer
PS. If it is ok i would prefer to keep everything in dndbeyond (forum, group messages) and do not use discord
