"What you ask for, my friend, is highly unusual, as you are well aware. But your news are worrying, a Flight of Dragons, the chance to the return of the dragon overlords... To go to the Inner Ward without an escort is out of the question. You know how it is there, hundreds of towers, halls, doors, extradimensional rooms... no my friend too risky that one of your friends, or even you, could take a wrong turn and end lost for months, or worse. Good Fembris here will do just fine" he gestures towards the young guide who is a little bit pale due to the topics they are talking but it's trying his best to keep it profesional "Is already aware of the situation. I understand your need of secrecy but he is already aware of it, isn't he?" Fembris nods, a little bit more energic ally that needed perhaps, and not entirely aware that it was a rhetoric question.
"Now, I will go to seek Scriverback and try tp arrange for you passage to the Inner Ward but that could require... somo extra effort before it's approved in such a short notice. " he stands "I will go back now and see what I can do. Please enjoy your stay at the Heart I will send Fembris back with news or bring them myself. If you'll excuse me".
Alkrist stands and bows to them as he makes his way out to do as promised.
Gorm is out of her element here, surrounded by books and learning and such. She gawks at the wonders but looks to Dr. A for direction on how and when to act. As such she listens to the Great Reader and then turns to Dr. A for their next steps.
Finally the door of the Heart opens but instead of the Great Reader they are waiting for the immense figure of an ogre enters the room. Their first reaction is reach for their weapons but the ogre, wearing a grey tunic hold around his waist by a great leather belt and with a strange diadem on his head, just greet the innkeeper with a smile and heads towards one table near a window, carrying no less than three great, heavy tomes with him. The waitress goes to his table and puts a great mug with hot tea near him and he thanks her. After taking a sip of the tea he opens one of the tomes he had bring and starts reading it.
Dr A is thoroughly nonchalant about the ogre entering the room carrying the tomes. After all it was the strangest sight he had seen at Candlekeep. Once he saw a Gelatinous Cube studying there. Now that was a strange sight! He decides to give the Ogre scholar space and waits until it starts a conversation.

Finally having found a book about knights of legend, Logan goes and sits near the ogre — but doesn’t crowd him, of course. Raising his own tea mug, he nods politely to the ogre, takes a sip, and starts reading.

The ogre acknowledges Logan and smiles to him when he sits near the ogre.
"Welmet traveler. I have not seen you at the Heart before "he says with a smile "May I ask you your name good sir? Mine is Little One, or at least is how I am known in this place. One could think it is a joke but I am actually a little bit short for my kin standards if you follow me " he chuckles.
Logan notices that the tomes he had on the table, between them are a weird collection indeed.
One, the top one, has vivid purple leather tomes, with golden letters saying "Lore of Lurue" and has a golden relief of an unicorn on its frontal cover.
Below it there is another tome, black, perhaps strong brown leather and, for some reason, Logan feels a shiver down his spine when he reads its title "Sarah of Yellowcrest Manor".
At the bottom of the pile there is another book, bound in green leather with filigranes of gold on it. "The Price of Beauty" it says on its spine
"Greetings, Little One. I am called Logan Flameheart. I hail from the Dalelands, and I travel with my companions, Doctor Arbutaveyu and Gorm Diabhal," Logan says, indicating his friends. "We are waiting to speak to the Great Reader on a matter of some import, but in the meantime enjoying the hospitality of the keep."

"It is a pleasure to meet you Logan Flameheart. And to make acquittance of your companions "he says greeting the rest of the party "Excuse my boldness but you strike me more as man of action than a scholar. I am right to presume that? That being the case I wonder what a knight like you are going to do while waiting for the Great Reader? I mean, I see that you have some light reading but perhaps I can lend you a book of another topic to pick your curiosity? I mean, we are at the very place where one can learn about all things known by the sentient creatures in Faerun, would not you take this opportunity to broad your mind and expand your knowledge with something different of what you are used to? Or, being that matter of such a heavy importance, perhaps a light reading " he taps the tomes between them "to give your weary head a rest and face the meeting with the Great Reader?"
”I would be more happy with my sword in hand slaying fell creatures than sitting and waiting, to be certain,” replies Logan, “But the mind requires honing as surely as any blade, so I am trying to make the best of it.”
Looking at the books, he is drawn to the unicorn book, asking, “Perhaps I could lead through this one, if you are offering?”

"But of course be my guest. " he says lending the book towards Logan. The tome isn't small but it seems so in the great hand of the ogre. "That one caught my eye among others in the "Folklore Lore" section. I know that one should not judge a book by its cover but it definitely looks interesting, isn't it?"
When Logan picks it up, the door of the Heart opens and enters an old dwarf. In a custodial uniform he carries a heavy, square tome bound in dark leather. The weight of the tome causes the old dwarf wheeze, squint and clench his teeth. He looks up and glances at Dr. A. and Gorm but before he can say a word, his knees buckle and he collapses to the floor with the book pressed under him.
Until now Dr A had simply been observing Logan’s interactions with what was for his race a relatively short Ogre. As the old dwarf collapses to the ground Dr A quickly gets out of his chair and goes to the dwarf’s side to see if he can be of assistance.

Turning the old dwarf on his back Dr. A sees that his skin has gone as pale as it looks like ash. His eyes are still open but its dilated pupils looks nowhere. The dwarf is gone. Lying on the floor lies the book. Dr. A can read the kind of square letters on its tome. "Kandelkeep Dekonstruktion"
Gorm darts right over to the fallen dwarf, all but turning over the table in her hurry. At his side, Gorm quickly checks him over for wounds or injuries. "Doctor?" she asks catching Doctor Arbutaveyu's eyes, the unspoken question being if there is something they can do to help the fallen dwarf.
Gorm doesn't find any injuries. It must has been the hand of a mysterious spell or, more probably, the effort to bring that tome in such a hurry combined with the advanced age of the dwarf. Maybe he was being pursued? But no one has come after him and no one is visible at the yard behind the still open door of the Heart.
Dr. A takes a look at the tome. At a first glance it seems to be a collection of blueprints of buildings, towers and walls... he would need more time studiyng the tome but.. could that be the blueprint of the Emerald Gate? and that one of the East Library?. If so... that tome is extremely valuable... and dangerous in the wrong hands.
The waitress has gone out, looking for an Advowed or a Reader.
- Oh my. What unfortunate event. I feel sorry for that old dwarf. - says Little One - May I suggest that we cover him with some tablecloth or something? -
