The town of Greenest was founded by the halfling Dharva Scatterheart, a rogue who fancied herself the queen of the Greenfields. Scatterheart passed away without ever achieving that level of eminence, but her town grew into a thriving community. Its success isn’t surprising, since Greenest is the only town of any size astride the Uldoon Trail, the most direct road between the eastern cities of the Dragon Coast, Cormyr, and Sembia with the Coast Way running south to the great cities of Amn, Tethyr, and far Calimshan. The trade caravans that pass through Greenest bring gold to the town’s merchants and craftsfolk, and Governor Nighthill runs the town at the behest of the inhabitants.
Everyone can post an intro for their characters and you guys can decide why you're traveling to Greenest in the first place (coming home from an adventure, traveling through to another destination, working as bodyguards for a merchant or something, etc). We've got 3 signed into the campaign so far, with a bard coming (just hasn't joined the campaign yet)
Flyingmatthew asked if he could make his character a mute (with Sign Language replacing his normal language). I told him I'd let the rest of the group decide. You're the ones that are most affected by the inability to easily communicate with him. If he does go that route, and any of the rest of you have class/race/background features that let you pick a language that you know (vs telling you which ones you already know), I'd let you choose sign language as an option instead of a normal one. That way there could at least be a translator.
I was sent to spy on Greenest's merchants by a neighboring city's merchant gulid. As horses and I don't really get along, I am walking. It been a few days and I'm looking forward to a nice Inn
I was sent to spy on Greenest's merchants by a neighboring city's merchant gulid. I've only just arrive in the city late last night, and and sleeping in a nice but cheap Inn. I am currently sitting next to the inn's fireplace purring slightly.
You aren't actually in Greenest yet. You're on the road traveling there.
Pops O'hanlon, retired school teacher turned adventurer, rides to Greenest in the back of a wagon. He happily reads a book based on his favorite topic, Dragons.
Rocksmasher was a soldier but the war ended and now he is a guard for hire to escort caravans along the road as protection from bandits. He is a little bored since the war ended and getting tired of the monotonous days as a caravan guard. He longs for something more exciting so he can have some epic tails of his deeds to tell his people when he returns home to the mountains of his birth.
(I speak common and giant and I’m not smart enough to learn sign language. I’d prefer not to have that hurdle as it would take more time in what I assume is the rogue private messaging the wizard to the have the wizard tell the group just to communicate. )

I was thinking of just using oblivious sighs in beginning. But if you don't think it will be fun, I can live with it.

(I don't mind horses, but they smell the predator in me. I had a mare who I raised, but she was killed when I escaped from evil spy gulid. Maybe if I need to use a horse there should be a cha check on both sides )
Deekin is a kobold, orange in color and slightly larger than normal. A need for adventure drove this small creature from his home and he has been able to make due so far with his ability to serenade others. While mainly in it for the adventure, Deekin is also in search for past members of his brood who have left to explore the world. Armed with a lute and a positive attitude, Deekin is ready to press on and see what lies beyond the horizon.
I can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic, and I hate Gnomes.

(Okay, everybody's joined the campaign and found the thread, so we can get started! For flyingmatthew, I'm going to go ahead and nix being fully mute this time for ease of communicating with the party as needed. I don't mind if you and pops want to take sign language as a language still so you can communicate silently and/or secretly when wanted/needed.)
You all have your own reasons for traveling to (or through) greenest. For the past several days, you have been traveling a road that winds lazily across the rolling grasslands of the Greenfields. You all have approached the final stretch at the same time and ended up traveling in a group the last distance. Sundown is approaching when you top a rise and see the town of Greenest just a few short miles away. But instead of the pleasant, welcoming town you expected, you see columns of black smoke rising from burning buildings, running figures that are little more than dots at this distance, and a dark, winged shape wheeling low over the keep that rises above the center of the town. Greenest is being attacked by a dragon!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"My God.." Pops takes out a sketchpad and and pencils and starts to put together a rough sketch of the scene. Who would have thought he, an aspiring Draconologist, would get a chance to study his quarry so close.

My sense of duty would not allow me to ignore the people needing help in town. “The caravan should stay here, I am going to help the town. Any willing are welcome to join me.” I grip my warhammer, ready my shield and prepare to head toward the town giving the others around me a moment to decide if they are going to join me.

Pops thinks back to his research on dragons and is unable to recall any active living dragons in the immediate area around Greenest. By the light of the fires in the city and the setting sun, you can make out that the dragon appears to have blue scales, and you recall hearing stories of sightings of an adult blue dragon further north along the Sword Coast near the Sword Mountains.

What is the current political situation in Greenest? Are they at war with anyone? Rival trading cities?
(I would love for Pops to Know sign language. He is a teacher after all.)
