Nemean approaches the pit carefully and examines the rope tied around the stalagitmite. After a moment looking at the rope he leans over and peers into the pit.
He then uses his keen feline sense to listen to the noise they heard in the distance, trying to determine where it eminates from. His body remains still and quiet as he listens...
"Surely this must be one of Gundren's brothers, but for his sake I hope that is not the case. He has been through enough for one tenday," Sildar comments while Nimble removes the dwarf's boots, chanting and motioning with his hands.
Nemean peers into the pit, listening carefully for the noise in the distance. The bottom of the pit is empty, and its walls are rough, but might be climbable even without the rope that is currently dangling over. The cave is silent for a brief moment, before the sound returns; a very slight boom, emanating from both of the tunnels in the pit below.
For Nimble:
You detect the presence of magic around you, and when you hone your senses to it you see that the boots are indeed magical, radiating an aura of transmutation. Its exact properties will need further identification.
OOC: I know some DMs require it, but you do not need an identify spell to determine the properties of a magic item. Instead of using that spell, you can learn the properties of an item by spending the entirety of a short rest focusing on it.
Nimble will stow the boots in his supplies. "These boots hold some interesting magic and need more study. I will keep them and let you know what they are when I know better." Nimble follows Nemean over to the pit and listens as well. He studies the rope to make sure it is secure. "It is sad that this Dwarf lost his life and I fear it is Gundren's Brother indeed. Let us act quickly to assist the other if possible."

Nimble descends safely down the rope, which seems safe and securely fastened to the wall. The distant booming noise emerges again from both the northwest and eastern tunnels, which lead further into the darkness for some distance.
Nemean will also climb down into the pit, once there he takes out his bow, and nods towards the eastern passage.
He proceeds quietly and methodically, taking great care with each step. His tail pointed straight up into the air, adjusting slightly to give him balance as he moved.

The tunnel shrinks to around 10 feet high, though the stone does not look any less natural in the glow of the lantern. Another soft boom echoes from the distance as the tunnel branches to the left. Ahead, the tunnel widens into a large chamber.
Roland keeps moving forward with his lantern in his left hand, he holds it high and looks about before drawing on of his swords in his right hand, ready and wary. He looks around at the passage, his eyes darting about to try to find any source of danger.
Tochi sees nothing else of interest in sight as Roland pushes the group forward, into the larger cavern.
It seems many tunnels intersect at this natural, thirty-foot-high cavern, as three more tunnels continue to the north, south, and east. The walls are carved with simple reliefs showing dwarf and gnome miners hard at work. Below them, nearly two dozen skeletons in rusted scraps of armor are scattered across the cavern floor. Some are dwarf skeletons, while others are orc remains. Half a dozen large brass lanterns stand in niches or on ledges around the cavern, but none are lit.
Roland takes Tochi's advice and continues to scan every part of the room that it's possible for him to see, shining the lanterns light around at the walls, ceiling, and floor. He raises his sword above his head, ready to strike as he walks forward. He keeps his distance from the skeletons where possible as they move forward, worried that they might spring to life.
After the seeing the skeletons are still and the room is secure, Nemean will take a closer look at the bones in order to try to determine the cause of death. As he approaches he Stowe’s his bow, and draws a Scimitar.

The skeletons have lain here for quite some time and are far enough into decomposition that it is impossible to tell what originally killed them.
Looking up to the ceiling, Roland sees a group of nearly a dozen stirges clutched to the ceiling. As Nemean peers over the bones of the skeletons, the stirges fly. Roland has just enough time to shout a word of warning before they are on the attack.

The first digs into Nemean's back with its proboscis, dealing 5 piercing damage, and the other into Nimble's arm, dealing 6 piercing damage, both lodged firmly into their flesh.
