“I say we end him, maybe keep him alive long enough to interrogate, but he should never leave wave each cave.”
He begins searching the area which had been cleared near the camp fire and the wooden table. He searches for clues about why the Dark Elf was here and what he was working on.

"While he went down easier than expected, that might have been a fluke. I do not know how important any information he might have would be, but, if we have decided to sully our hands with his blood, I would advocate caution and ending him before he has a chance to do harm" Tochi says, deep in thought,
"If this truly is the Black Spider, killing him now would do a great disservice to all those he has harmed. I would have him jailed and interrogated in Neverwinter by my compatriots in the Lord's Alliance. We need to learn what else he knows. But are we even sure this is him? It all seems too...easy," Sildar ponders, answering Roland.
Amid the papers laid across the desk is an iron key with a head shaped like an anvil, and a leather sack of treasure. Inside it, Nemean finds 190 electrum pieces, 130 gold pieces, 15 platinum pieces, nine small gemstones, and a dwarven ale mug made of hammered electrum.
The papers contain a summary of someone's efforts in the mine. Among the pages, Nemean finds a few especially noteworthy passages:
The dwarves came back. The fools really have no idea that we are in here. Are they related to the one with the map? Clansmen, maybe? Regardless, it was embarrassingly easy to slip behind them invisible, kill one, and take the other. Let's see what he knows...
______________________________
Klarg and his bugbears are making steady progress on the front line, but it could be tendays before they rid this place of the ghouls and zombies that infest it. I grow impatient, but as much as I hate the creatures, it would be a pity to lose such loyalty.
______________________________
Vhalak tells me the bugbears have not found anything in the rift. Not good enough. They will search until their arms have ground to stumps. My divinations were clear. Something valuable lies hidden in that rift.
______________________________
The temple has been set as my headquarters. I will find the Forge of Spells, but until then it is getting tiring to keep moving around. Easy enough to set spiders here to keep watch, and it's close enough to the rift that Vhalak can defend me if needed.
______________________________
At first I thought the dwarf as much a blowhard as the rest of his ilk, but I am beginning to believe he legitimately does not know anything about the mine. I saw his eyes perk at the name Gundren, but that fool had to have let his clan know what he found, surely. Yet, I have interrogated him once or twice each day since his capture, and he still claims no knowledge. I find it hard to believe even the hardiest of dwarves is that strong.
I need to recapture that fool, but it is more important to wipe this place clean. Can't lose any more to that...thing.
OOC: Split evenly, that is 63 ep, 43 gp, 5 pp, and 3 small gemstones.
Left unclaimed is the potion of healing, the dark elf's staff, the iron key, the dwarven mug, 1 ep, and 1 gp.
"If you want to interrogate him, that's fine with me. I won't personally put a lot of trust in anything he has to say. Maybe Gundren can identify him? Also, he is the only Drow that hasn't turned into a weird grey creature upon being injured. We should, at the very least, bind him with ropes." Roland says to Sildar.
“If we’re going to interrogate him we should do it here and now. We at least need to confirm he is in fact the Black Spider though, we can’t very well drag him around just to find out he’s the black spiders little brother now can we? If he is the Black Spider, I still say we kill him though, he deserves death for what he’s done.
Reading through these notes though, he definitely sounds like the Black Spider... He seems to be leading the search for the Spell Forge... I wonder what that “thing” is? Perhaps the Dark Elf in the rift room was this Vhalak? And speaking of that rift, we should make sure to search it more thoroughly.”

Roland Drask:Human Rogue - Lost Mine of Phandelver
The staff is a wonderfully crafted item, weighing a little over 5 pounds, and has an impeccable balance to it. You are certain that it holds magical properties. To learn them will take more time spent studying the staff.
OOC: I use RAW for magic items: To learn their properties (outside of using Identify) requires a short rest spent exclusively studying the item. If it requires attunement, then another short rest is needed to attune to an item.
For Roland:
Nothing about the statue suggests a specific purpose, and you do not recognize the dwarf that it depicts. The carving is exquisite; someone took great care to carve this statue to the finest detail. The gemstone eyes are large; emerald of that size would be very valuable. They are located too high off the ground to simply reach for them, but the statue appears to be easily climbable.
Sildar drops hand onto Nemean's shoulder as he studies the staff. "My friend...I can only imagine the pain the Black Spider has caused you. I saw what his lackeys did to your former companions. But killing him solves nothing. He deserves to pay for his crimes, not to be given an easy way out. I will not stand against you, but know that I would lock him in the jail beneath the Townmaster's Hall until my business in Phandalin is finished, and take him to Neverwinter, where the Lord's Alliance will punish him severely for what he has done. And when we have learned all that we can about the man's plots, he will rot in prison. If, that is, this is in fact the Black Spider that we have just trounced," he says.
OOC: 63 ep, 43 gp, 5 pp, and 3 small gemstones have been added to each character's inventory.
1 ep and 1 gp have been added to Roland's inventory.
Potion of healing has been added to Tochi's inventory.
That leaves unclaimed: The dark elf's staff, the iron key, and the dwarven ale mug.
Tochi thanks the party for allocating him the potion and looks over the items. He has no interest in the mug, however, the other two are more intriguing: "Sildar, this key, does it remind you of anything? If I am not being presumptuous, it seems to be of Dwarven make. And the staff... Someone with better magical abilities may want to study it. I think we should return them to Phandalin, they seem to be quite valuable".
"It does look Dwarvish, but I do not know what it may signify," Sildar answers. "We should not hang around here long. You mentioned there were bugbears here?"
Nemean sighs and hangs his head as he considers the words of his old friend. “I don’t know Sildar... I, I need to think, I need to rest. Let's regain our strength here for a bit... he just ordered those two Bugbears away... I imagine they will be out for at least a little while. Lets take an hour to rest and study these notes. Then we can try to wake him and interrogate him. We need to know if he actually is the Black Spider before we just start hauling him around with us.”

OOC: What is everyone doing during this short rest?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nemean will also use his hit dice to recover:
4

He will also take the staff with him to study.
After awhile his thoughts wander, and he eyes the dwarves mug and wishes he could be back in Phandalin brewing and drinking, alas he wasn’t in Phandalin, but in this dungeon instead.
As he rests, he solemnly reflects on the bound Dark Elf in the corner of the room, and what justice he deserves...
Save for the familiar sound of a repeating distant boom, the room is silent while the party recovers. Tochi tears off a strip of his own clothing, tying it into the dark elf's mouth. Nemean rolls the spider-headed staff over in his hands, looking it over top to bottom.
For Nemean:
This staff can be wielded as a quarterstaff. Upon striking a surface, the staff magically secretes a poison, dealing 1d6 extra poison damage on a hit when used to make a weapon attack.
In addition, the staff has 10 charges, which are used to fuel spells within it without using components. However, not being familiar with spellcasting himself, Nemean does not know what those spells may be. If expended, 1d6 + 4 of these charges are regained each day at dawn.
You must be attuned to this staff in order to gain any of its benefits.
OOC: If Roland wants to roll any hit dice, feel free to roll them once he is back with us.
Nemean examines the staff, and puts it away for now, knowing it’s magical powers were beyond him. He was struck with a pang of sadness as he realized every spellcaster he had ventured with were now dead...
... dead by the hands of the Black Spider. He turns his gaze to the pathetic pile in the corner. Was this really their great foe bound up before them?
He stands up and slowly approaches the Dark Elf. He sits him up, pressing his shoulders against one of the crumbling walls. He takes out his water skin and splashes it into the face of the Drow, hoping to wake him.
