Yes, you pick up a figure... Arya fades into the shadows Stealth26 ... and nothing happens. You stand there with with the small statue of a warrior in your hand.
Igneous pockets the statue then cautiously picks up the painting of the olman warriors preparing to jump back if something happens
There is no painting. Putting the figure in a pocket could damage it. (It's like using miniatures in a tabletop game, you have to be careful not to break of bits like weapons.)

Well now that the party has a real thief she will earn her keep. Arya moves quietly to the door at the end of the corridor checking the path for traps. Stealth24Perception11
Arya doesn’t spot the trap but when wooden rods snap out from the walls she has the chance to dodge some of the damage Dex Save 9 for half damage 10
”Owie!” She finds herself on the other side of the wooden rods blocking the corridor. “Um, help”
Fah'lin steps forward to help. He pulls out his axe and chops through the rods.
"Let me have a look then, girl." Fah'lin tries to examine the wound, and mend her injury with his pool of divine healing.
“Thanks. As it is now rather pointless me sneaking up to that door...” She bows and gestures Fah’lin on.
Edit: Forget that, we where discussing why Magic Initiate is one of the best feats when you take Find Familiar and you suggested that some people try summoning the familiar beyond doors but that it won’t work that way. I’ve reread the spell and I’m sure that actually does work.
”As an action, you can temporarily dismiss your familiar. It disappears into a pocket dimension where it awaits your summons. Alternatively, you can dismiss it forever. As an action while it is temporarily dismissed, you can cause it to reappear in any unoccupied space within 30 feet of you.”
This surely has a different meaning to the clause covering initial summoning.
”Appearing in an unoccupied space within range, the familiar has the statistics of the chosen form, though it is a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice) instead of a beast.” This one does heavily imply that the caster cannot put his familiar behind a closed door but the temporary dismissal and recall certainly does imply control over where it reappears.
The fun thing here is that all of this has nothing to do with why Arya has the feat in the first place. It never occurred to me until you brought it up.
So. Arya dismisses the owl then causes it to reappear in the room beyond the door. Siting down she goes into a trance and starts seeing through the birds eyes.
“This room is constructed of large stone blocks, buttressed in the corners. The walls are wet and slimy, and mud covers most of the floor in a thin coating. To the east and west may be seen stone doors recessed in the wall, and to the north a set of stairs leads down.
In the center of the chamber sits a large polished boulder amid a pile of smaller rounded rocks. The boulder is five feet tall and colored brown with dark streaks and spots. Leaning against it is what appears to be a bamboo staff.
In the mud around the base of the boulder is a moving shape, looking like a crayfish. It is facing Owly and seems to be aware of his presence.”
Fah'lin pokes Arys gently with his blunt stick. "We've lost her..."
(I'd call that heavily up to DM interpretation. But she's the DM's anyway.)
No, I’m serious about not pushing things especially because I’m running the character. The language is the same as used in Conjure Animals and Conjure Woodland Beings etc. Some conjuation spells include the phrase ‘that you can see’ but at least as many don’t. So are we to believe that not having an explicit statement that you control where it appears (which some conjugation spells do have) means that you have no control over where a creature appears?
I’m going to see if my Google Fu can find a definitive answer.

Okay I've cheated and referred the question to Wizards customer service so hopefully we will get an answer sooner or latter. In the mean time we will play that the DM controls where summoned creatures appear unless otherwise specified.
You perceive nothing until you open the door and then you see as previously described.

Fah'lin grips his staff tightly as he moves near the Boulder. He'll tentatively poke the rock, and the bamboo staff.
(You can't cast spells that have seen targets while blinded. It's why I wanted a sack on Glasstaff's head.)
(Edit: yes, it is prudent to assume anything not specifically granted is denied, including the location where a summon appears. I'm not upset at all, to be clear, that's just my interpretation.)
"Before we go in there I would like to try something" says Thar. If he is within 30' of the bamboo staff he will cast Mage Hand and using the Hand try to pick up the staff and bring it back to the group.

Your Mage Hand grabs the ‘staff’ and it won’t move as you try to pick it up, it weighs a hell of a lot more than 10 lb. Is your action noticed? 23
Oh it’s noticed. The staff is actually a leg of a giant hermit crab that is rising up out of the mud.
Arya ice skates in on the mud 16 (just made it) and gives you the end of a rope and ducks out again. “PULL” she shouts to anyone who doesn’t have 8 strength.
