Before making his way to the ship, in a safe area, Carolinas will spend 1 hour casting Find Familiar to summon an owl that perches on his shoulder.
-Good to see you old friend-
-*Where to this time Carolinas?*-
-We're exploring the open seas. Quite different from the forests. Do behave yourself and stick with me.-
-*If you say so!*-
After the summoning, he will go to the docks and sees a half-elf tradesman from Baldur's Gate looking for passage. After a lengthy conversation with him he says, "Come along Ellis, adventure, knowledge, and wealth awaits you. Help an old man with his supplies if you could."
Carolinas brings all of his purchased supplies near the ship and begins loading it.
"Hmm...someone named Bruz...guess I'm bunking with him."
"Then swim we shall." Sal says with a thankful bow to the captain. "It has been too long since I have been out on the seas. Allow me to bring my possessions to the ship, should there be space for extra wares."
Sal quietly utters her thanks to Mystra for her wise guidance and to Tymora for the good fortune of a welcoming captain this day.
Nimar took the paper from Master Glass and shook his hand as well. One could tell a lot about a man from his handshake. Glass' told of a lifetime hauling ropes and doing hard labour. -Master Glass, eh?- The vague memory of the historical warrior of the same name came to mind. -Must be a coincidence.-
"I'll gather me bits and help ye load up. Where be the ship?"
He finally shook Master Ripples' hand, adhering to the order of hierarchy for the officers. As his hand enclosed the other's, the dwarf took notice of how the second mate shook back. Was it firm or limp? Was his skin rough from labour or smooth from an easier life?

It took a few trips to get all his things to the dockside. The barrels were cumbersome and he had had to roll them two at a time from house to harbour. Fortunately where he lived wasn't too far so the whole task only took him less than two hours.
Nimar made his way to where the Silken Keel was moored. He found it easily enough from the directions he was given and his prior knowledge of the harbour. From the pier, he took his first glance at the vessel and its design.

When Carolinas enters the cabin he will see a half-orc laying on one of the bottom bunks reading a weathered manuscript that is heavily stained as if liquids were often spilt on it. A waterskin lies next to him. At the foot of the bunk is a large locked chest and a loaded backpack with two torches sticking out of it and a sledgehammer and a waterskin secured to the outside.
In the center of room are two large barrels with 5 smaller casks stacked in a pyramid on top of them. All of it takes up a fair amount of space in the small room, certainly more than one person should have in a room this size for 4 people.
((Passive perception of 12 also reveals the room smells slightly of alchohol. Most strongly near the half-orc.))
OOC: Sorry to be late, have not noticed that the threat started :D
Standing a bit to the back, Alfie watches the Captain and Mates talking to the line of people. It has been a while now that she was traveling to this harbor city and still she was unable to find what she was looking for.
(Maybe, hiring on this ship will help me put my hands to work again.)
As Alfie approaches the three recruiters, she timidly but curiously eyes them, barely able to look over the table as it was clearly built for elves and humans rather than for dwarfs and halflings. Gathering her will, she finally says:
"Good Day, kind sirs, I came across the postings around town that you are seeking help abroad this ship? I am a leather-worker by trade and seek to advance my skills as well as see the world. I am also quite talented with musical instruments and may entertain with a story or two that have been told around the taverns. I have however never worked on a ship before."
Tauii - The Captain grins as you ask about the competition "No, I'm sure your skill with that axe is sufficient for battles, but what a Deck Commander needs is tactical ability. The competition will be to test your mettle in correctly choosing paths for your forces during a conflict, not a simple skill at arms. We are not some pirate craft where only an ability to draw blood determines leadership."
OOC - yes, you did.
Pokepaladdy - The Captain nods and says "We are sizeable ship, so as long as your gear isn't too large, you can bring it aboard."
Spirel - Master Ripple's handshake was firm, yet felt slick, certainly from his Genasi heritage. While not calloused or rough like a typical Dwarven seaman, you doubt that his flesh would retain such hardening.
Upon arriving at the ship, you can see why the Captain has such pride in her. Strong lines and a large span makes for a sleeker shape than a typical merchantman, but her freshness and lack of wearing also tells you to expect growing pains, as it were. Subdued colours mark her woods, a mixture of tans and blues that would probably do well to keep her from being obvious on the sea, once she's had a few knots under her. You'll have to travel aboard for a while to get her full measure, but she doesn't look shabby.

Sal collects her belongings together and her bought wares and heads towards The Silken Keel. She looks the ship up and down, pulling her cargo as best she can with her. Perhaps I bought too much raw grain, she contemplates to herself. Then again, this is how merchant vessels work; it's just my first time attempting something like this without my friends.
She takes her belongings aboard, introducing herself to any deckhands that meet her and enquiring as to where to take her belongings and where she will be bunking.
Alkestis - The Captain once again takes the lead in this conversation, leaning forward to take in this new applicant's measure. After she finishes speaking, he remains forward, saying calmly "A leather worker is always a useful person to have aboard ship, as most sensible crew wear leathers against the rigors of the oceans, so there is that. But you mentioned some musical ability. Aboard ship, when tasks are simple and the seas are kind, we use music to time our jobs and keep our crewmen effective. Do you think you could play for hours at a time when needed? Let's hear some of your talent and we'll judge. Music sounds the same on land as on water, just carries further."

OOC - to be clear, your cargo purchases are not your responsibility to haul around and stow - they are merely shares in what the ship had already bought to be shipped from port to port. You put money in, as crew, to pay for more cargo that is handled by the Quartermaster. :D
Pokepaladdy - OOC - you were assigned the Healer's quarters. Everything you need to stow is to be put there, and that is your room.

A bit unsure, Alfie takes out her lute. After making sure that the strings are tuned correctly she first starts rather shyly, but soon gets more confident as the familiar feeling of song and notes comes back to her:
"Only a kiss, Nothing more I want from you. The summer was short, The winter is approaching fast.
If you don't kiss me, You may be left alone. And who wants to be alone in the winter? I received a kiss and gave her my heart for it!

I wonder if she thought about him when she died. Because she believed in love.
For month I traveled the country. Since nothing was left for me. It was nearly fall when I finally found him. There was her true love.

Tell me, do you believe in love? It has not been too long. This is the price for your love.
I cut the stranger up, Just a little bit. And I took back my heart."
As her song ends, she looks up to the trio and also notices some dockworkers who had stopped in their work to listen to her sing and play. Being carried away by the emotion in the song, she wipes away a tear that was forming in the corner of her eye and quickly blinks it away pretending it was something poking in her eye.
"I know a lot of ballads, but can also play happier songs."

"Aye, she's a bonnie lass," Nimar said to himself. The Silken Keel was a work of fine craftsmanship and looked like she would cut through the waves like a knife through butter. He could see no areas for concern from first glance, but the true test would be when he went aboard and inspected her inner workings.
He stepped forward to the edge of the pier and dropped a gold piece into the water. He then pressed his palm against the hull of the ship in silent prayer. He hoped the gold would find its way to Umberlee's Cache to spare the vessel The ***** Queen's stormy wrath. Time would tell.
The dwarf then turned his attention to the dockhands busy loading cargo up onto the decks. He introduced himself and gave a few instructions before heading up the steps to board. He towed his chest behind him which contained some of his more valuable belongings. Its lock clanked against its side with every step.
"I'll be back in half an hour to watch over ye lads so I better not see any o' them small crates loaded up! Largest fu'st!"
Aboard, Nimar sought out his cabin, introducing himself briefly to any crewmates he met along the way. It was a small but cosy room consisting of a bed with a roughspun quilt, a few coat hangers and a chamberpot in the corner. He dumped his chest in an empty corner and backed out of the quarters, securing the door behind him with his second lock. Experience had taught him that one could never be too cautious on the open sea where men's dispositions quickly soured and deviance could run rife.
The boatswain then set about his first duties. He took a tour around the whole ship, inspecting each deck and area from the bowels of the cargo hold up to the lofty heights of the crow's nest. He took mental note of the condition of each place and what work was required to get the vessel in best shape and where may be problematic.

Once Nimar finished his survey, he took up post as cargo watch on the main deck and barked down orders to the dockhands below. There was a lot of work to be done yet to get the Silken Keel ready to sail in the morning.

After she finishes her sonnet, the Elven Captain solemnly stands up and applauds. "A fine example of a bardic art, m'lady Alfie. Do you think you can provide something suitable? If so, we have a position for you, in addition to your skill with shears and stitch."
Tauiii - Master Glass hands you the paper with his sign and your cabin and says "Take this and be aboard with your gear before morning, Mister Cubic. You'll be sharing a cabin with two others in a bunkroom of four. Any gear that doesn't fit in cabin can be stowed in cargo, as long as it's not too bulky."
Spirel - OOC - While not far outside your duties, a Boatswain doesn't manage cargo. That's a Quartermaster. You order supplies and repair gear from the Quartermaster.
*NOTE* Investigation check - You don't notice anything that leaps to be handled immediately, but you're sure there will be, soon.

Sebastian saunters up to the captains table. Rucksack over his shoulder and a hand casually draped over the hilt of his sword. "Greetings Cap'n. My names Sebastian Blackhand. Word on the docks is the Silk'n Keel is lookin for crew. I'd like to sign up if you still have room." Reaching into his leather vest, Sebastian produces a sheet of parchment wrapped around a small stack of loose parchments as to keep them together. "These here are my references from other Cap'ns I've sailed with. You should find them all to be in good order."
Sebastian considers the two mates flanking the captain for a moment while the Captain scrutinizes his papers. He nods to them both respectfully and then turns his attention back to Weatherworn. "I also have good news. I already have a passenger lined up to sail with us. I figure you can just set me up with a finders fee or maybe a percentage of the fair that they pay. What do you say Cap'n, do you need an experienced hand that brings business along with him?"
Handing the package of references to Master Glass, the Captain looks over at the new applicant. Glass finishes his perusal and whispers into the Captain's ear, at which Weatherworn nods then looks at Sebastian. "Well, Sailor, it seems you've had the good side of most of those you've sailed with, which always help our choices. The problem is, I don't see a single skill that stands out for our crew, other than with a vessel itself. We already have a pilot, but I could see us using your skills on off shifts or when it's not critical, if that works for your purposes? "
At your comment of having a fare, he perks up "A passenger is always easy cargo, when they are available! You certainly can take the commission on the sale, and a bonus if you find another before we leave at dawn."

Once Sal has found her accomodation, she spends a small amount of time getting her belongings moved in and ensuring they are neatly stowed away and tied tightly out of the way. "Perhaps I should buy a chest for all this." She contemplates. "I wonder if we would have time for a venture into town." She then disregards the notion. "I feel meeting the crew would be better at this point. Perhaps that wizard is also surveying the ship, a fellow caster and follower would be nice to spend time with." After double checking her belongings are all in place, she leaves her excess items in the cabin and wanders out to have a look around the ship.
Investigation:12 to survey the ship while wandering around.
Perception:14 to see who is around and if anything is out of the ordinary.
Carolinas will examine the room, gives a single sniff and says to the half-orc, "Greetings...my that's a lot of cargo. Don't want it in the cargo hold of the ship? Not very much room for four in here. My name is Carolinas. Pardon me, I need to go make sure my passenger is settled in and to make sure my wares are loaded. I shall return." He departs and goes on the deck and exhales to clear his nose of the strong smell of alcohol.
He makes sure his passenger is aboard and checks his belongings, then happens upon (Sal) he says to her, "Ah, I hoped to run into you. I didn't get a chance to introduce myself earlier. My name is Carolinas the green wizard and follower of Mystra. (He gives a bow and an owl lands on his shoulder) And my companion here is Archimedes, he's been a friend for many years. (he looks at the owl for a brief moment) He says he's glad another caster is on board. I would agree with him."
Sal gives Carolinas a small informal bow. "Greetings, Carolinas the Green Wizard. It is indeed comforting to know some of The Lady's faithful tread these paths as well. Though Umberlee holds the tide in her sway, The Weave exists everywhere." She gives Archimedes a smile. "And greeting to you, Archimedes. I hope your work with the green wizard fares well. Mystra's blessings be upon both of you in this journey."

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?"
"Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied

Investigation: 12 to survey the ship while wandering around.
