Carolinas says, "And to you as well. Pardon, but I do not want my half-orc bunkmate to get the wrong idea that I'm avoiding him even though the cabin smells of booze and overcrowded. We will talk more a bit later."
Returning to the cabin, he takes a bottom bunk and sits on it then says to the half-orc, "Sorry, I needed to make sure my purchases were in order and ran into another adventurer. So what brings you aboard?"

Bruz looks up as an old man enters the cabin. Figuring him for a passenger, he smiles and returns the man's greeting.
When the man excuses himself, Bruz gives him a cheers with his waterskin and drinks from the ale inside.
When the old man reenters, Bruz puts down his manuscript and says, "No worries greybeard, had to haul all this stuff myself from the Splurging Sturgeon, man's gotta take care of what's important to 'em." Sitting up he continues, "Name's Bruz, here to sail the seas to make my share of battle and booty like any honest seaman." He laughs loudly at his own joke, "Maybe I'll cook for you all too, we'll see. What about you old timer? You mentioned a fellow adventurer, but you look a bit too seasoned for the part if ya don't mind me sayin'"
"But of course." Sal gives Carolinas a bow farewell as he returns to his cabin. Sal continues her wander around the ship, still keeping an eye out for what is going on. If she doesn't bump into anyone else while on her wander she will attempt to find a deckhand to enquire how long it will be until the ship is due to set sail. If there is a fair amount of time, she will attempt to purchase a chest and a healer's kit in town. If not, she will return to her cabin and change out of her armour into something more comfortable.
Pokepaladdy - Sal encounters many crewmen on her wander but, other than an occasional request to avoid a hazard, nothing untoward is seen. The crew is friendly on average, and seems to be enjoying the labour. There are always exceptions, but even those whose life is under self-imposed dark clouds are less rude than expected. Time allows for her to debark and shop a bit in town, with a reminder both verbal and posted to be back on board before dawn.

In which case Sal will leave her excess items on the ship and make a quick trip to purchase said chest and healer's kit. Nimar turned to the other dwarf. "Oh aye, good ta see a brother aboard." He seized Cubik's hand in a hearty shake. "I'm Nimar – Nimar Spine. What clan are ye from, pal? What's yer position here?"
The bosun looked his new acquaintance over. -I sure wouldn'ee wan'ta cross this'un in a scuffle, tha's fer sure!-
Nimar withdrew a pipe from his breeches and clamped it between his lips. It appeared to be made from bone and was etched with intricate scrimshaw – arabesques of vine and flame flowing from bowl to mouthpiece. From his other pocket he pulled out a small leather purse. He clicked it open and the sweet aroma of tobacco filled the air. He pinched some out and into the pipe bowl several times, each time carefully pressing down the dried leaves with his finger. Finally, he lit the tobacco with a match from his inside pocket and puffed a few wisps of smoke into the evening sky.

The problem is, I don't see a single skill that stands out for our crew, other than with a vessel itself...
... You certainly can take the commission on the sale, and a bonus if you find another before we leave at dawn."
Sebatian grins at the Captain “Don’t go out of you way for me sir, I’m just as happy up in the rigging or crows nest as I am on deck. I’m sure I’ll have proven my worth by the time we reach our destination.” He tilts his head slightly and gives a half salute “I’ll see you in the ship sirs” Blackhand then heads back to the docks to find another passenger for a bonus.
[ooc]im probably pressing my luck with the dice roller AND with the Captain lol. We shall see...
Carolinas says to Bruz, "Oh, I managed to convince a passenger on the docks to come aboard. He's all settled in. And yes your question is well justified. I've never been on a ship for an extended period of time, but I have gone on several adventurers in the past for information gathering."
His owl flies in and lands on his hand, "Archimedes here has been with me since my first adventure a long time ago. But to answer your question directly, I may be old and not physically strong, but I am a master of arcane illusions and have been tasked with fire warding. So you're a cook eh? How long have you been on ships?"
Young Rook walks around the docks as he has many times before, but for the first time he is nervous. With his father ill and his family in need of money, the tall, thin human young man of 19 needed to step up and make a real wage beyond that of just the odd jobs and low paying, back breaking work he had found in town in recent years. It was then that he saw the sign for the Silken Keel looking for a crew and thought that this may be the one. He found his way to the table and here he stood for the first time in from of the Captain and his First and Second.
"He-, Hello Captain Weatherworn, Master Glass, Master Ripples, Sirs. I-, I'm Gerruk Smith, ah, but you can call me Rook, if you please, Sirs." The nervous lad pauses for a brief second, brushing his messy dark hair out of his eyes and away from his glasses, gathering himself, standing straight and continuing on with a bit more confidence. He does his best to look the men in the eye and show them respect. "I hear you have need of hard workers, and I, well, I haven't exactly spent any time at sea, but I'm strong and I'm happy to do any work you see fit. Father says all jobs on a ship are important and you need a good man for every one of them. I can learn real quick, I promise, and no job is too small for me if you'd have me. Father says every sailor has to start somewhere and, ah, and I won't disappoint you, honest. I've spent my whole life, ah, on docks like these, at least, and I like to help load the ships, even without pay, just to get a close look at them. I've always just been too young, you see, but Mother and Father, well, I need to help them now." The young lad realizes he is rambling and stops suddenly, trying to stand with good posture out of respect for the men in front of him.
Bemused by the brazen assumptions made by this Blackhand, Captain Weatherworn still thinks he may yet work out. A few whispered words to Master Glass, and his fate is settled, punctuated with a couple of mischievous grins.
Pokepaladdy - Asking around the docks about the Captain of the Keel you'll hear much in praise. He has been Captain for many decades, working on all the ships of the Shiny Hull company, which amounts to a couple of dozen in all. He has a reputation as a tight fist trader, and an easy nature to crew. Some stories tell of him throwing an unruly mate overboard, and letting them splash for a bit before bringing them back and tossing them off at the next port, but that is well within his rights.

OOC - To Summarize the final situations (correct me if I'm wrong) The cabin of four bunks hosts Bruz, Carolinas, Cubic and Rook. The Healer's Quarters are host to Sal, the Bosun's quarters are Nimar's, Alfie is in the cabin of four for females. Sebastian, being the sociable rogue that he is, has been assigned to the general bunk area, where 11 other sailors stay when not working. He will be firmly directed there by any who are asked, and a few that are not asked. While crowded, the quarters are at least respectably clean. Probably the hard work of the two young mages who spend a lot of time cantripping all over the boat, on a day to day basis.

"A mage huh? Ya look the part, I'd say." Bruz responds to the wizard. "I've been on a few ships, took a trip down to Chult couple years back to fight in their arena. It's where I got these." He knocks on the casks of tej. "Speaking of, I'd best get these secured below decks. We hit rowdy enough weather and we'd be swimming in booze! Not that that sounds too bad..." he trails off with a laugh.
After speaking with Carolinas, Bruz heads out to find the quartermaster and hauls the two barrels and 5 casks to the hold or galley as directed.
"What takes ye so far from home, lad? Don't see many dwarves on the high seas. Most stick to the mountains and hills."
Nimar had never belonged to a clan proper. His father had been outcast from Mirabar to the north before his birth and he never met any extended family. Any vignette of dwarven culture had been gleaned from his parents and the few other dwarves he had met over the centuries. He regretted never venturing north to his ancestral home to learn more of his heritage, but there was always a reason to stay in Baldur's Gate and on the open sea.
The bosun offered his decorative pipe to Cubik for a few puffs. He never shared his pipe, but making an acquaintance with another of his race cheered him. Maybe he was growing soft in his old age.
So, it happens. Cargo is stowed, gear is secured, crew is boarded and dawn arrives. A busy place, the deck of a ship when leaving port - crew removing mooring lines, calls from end to end providing guidance and correction as needed, the steady raising of the jib and the slow moving away from dock. The Keel is an able ship, smoothly responding to the soft wind blowing off the coast through Baldur's Gate and pushing her out of the harbour. As they begin to get under way, Alfie is requested to stand on the top deck and provide a steady beat tune, meant to keep time with the crew's duties. Nimar is tasked with inspecting the ship top to bottom and getting acquainted with her. (Tauii - please provide any details you'd like on the Hammerforge clan, for Nimar's History roll, out of character) Rook and Sebastian are already put to task on deck, directed in coiling ropes, pulling in lines, moving gear and other junior chores. As mentioned before, there are two junior wizards that are moving slowly around the ship, casting cleaning and mending cantrips to help keep maintenance to a minimum. (They are technically part of the Bos'uns staff) Sebastian has also been put to work as the morning's aide to the crowsnest lookout, up high on the main mast. Breakfast starts as soon as they have left the harbour proper, so Bruz had better get to work making it!
As Healer, Sal is not expected to help on deck at any time, but she is expected to immediately handle any injuries that occur -either at the scene or if the patient gets brought back to her quarters.
The morning has dawned clear and breezy, perfect for the beginning of any sailing ship's departure, and there are dozens of craft on the water making their ways out of the harbour. A bit of 'negotiation' occurs between some of them, minor damage from slow motion collisions, but the Keel avoids them adroitly. Master Ripple has the experienced eyes that anticipate possible issues and his calls direct you all outwards without incident.

The night beforehand, Sal offers to offer prayers to Mystra with Carolinas before they retire for the evening. Afterwards she will return to her cabin and begin to move her objects into the new chest (sans a lock) and uses Arcanist's Magic Aura on the magical item in the room to leave it appearing mundane for the time being.
Sal feels a little offended that she isn't meant to work beyond a healer, offering to work to help keep the ship running smoothly. She has previously worked on ships, so knows plenty about how she can help here and there, and with some ability physically (albeit not like the superior as people such as Bruz, Cubik, or Nimar), she will be able to assist where she can. She even offers Aid to increase the durability of three members of the ship should they wish for it.
If she is relieved of such duties, she'll spend a few moments ritual casting detect magic to see what magical secrets are around the ship, if further time allows she can also offer to ritual cast purify food and drink to ensure that the food is kept fresh.
