@DM, can you let me know how Sal's action goes. She has her bonus action free, so may be doing a Healing Word dependant on the situation (and whether she can see the others and how badly injured they are).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rook keeps hacking away at the swarm, his frost armor seemingly quite effective. The young lad looks back to make sure his friends, including Sal and S'ika, are safe.
Attack: 18
Damage: 10
Potential Thunder Damage on Movement, if that even applies to a swarm: 5
As soon as Sal's hand contacts the gemstone, the red circle disappears, leaving a red-stained scorch mark on the wood of the deck. The rats, eyes suddenly no longer red, begin chaotically scurrying and attacking their fellows, as well as any crew nearby! After less than a few seconds, the remaining swarm of rats are either dead, overboard or hidden. In Sal's hand, the gemstone shimmers brightly, edges fading and wispy.
OOC - Sal roll Wisdom save versus an effect.

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
As Sal holds the gemstone, the shimmering reaches an unbearable intensity and the stone disappears! Red stain residue is left on her hand, staining it. The remainder of the day is spent in damage control, with almost all the issues being minor to severe injuries from the rats, and cleanup of the corpses.
OOC - 250 XP each.

The detection spell reveals that there is still residual magic in her palm of the conjuration type and it does seem to have left more than a physical residue on her hand. While it's not spreading or changing, there is still a low-level magic radiance that abides.

Sal will carefully pocket the gem for the time being, ensuring that the crew are safe is her priority (she has some spell slots left to help heal people). She will request to see the captain after things have settled down (which may be the following day. If that is the case, she will examine the gem on her own in her cabin that evening).
OOC - The gem disappeared. The WIS save was to keep it from vanishing.
Both Sal's healing magics and abilities to tie a bandage are put to good use for the next hour, patching up the crew and passengers. No fatalities, as it seemed the ensorcelled rodents left alone anyone who didn't move.

"Ugh. That was harder than it had any right to be!" S'ika yelled as she fell backwards onto the ground. She lays on her back as she yells over to Sal. "Get anything interesting from that circle?"

Reaching the others, Nyhwll lets out an exasperated sigh. "After all that biting and scratching, I don't even get to see what caused it? Figures!" He rolls his eyes at nobody in particular, and resigns himself to inspecting his wounded arm. The blood seems to be running rather freely. "Perhaps I should get this taken care of..."
All hurts are healed, all injuries are repaired, and what little damage done to the ship is Mended. The Captain calls for all those with useful information or ideas to meet on deck to discuss what this rats swarm was about, acknowledging that it was magic, but little more.
Up on a spindle, he shouts out "This isn't the first strange attack on our ship, and I am certain it won't be the last. Does anyone have any ideas or clues as to why, how or what is targeting us with these magic creatures? They don't seem to seek the death of our crew, but would certainly see our ship destroyed or abandoned."

"I know I have not been aboard long, but this history of disruption over lethality implies our foe has something to gain by keeping us alive, or they see our deaths as unnecessary, at the least. I was never one for schemes, but this reeks the like to me."

Sal takes hold of the crystal. "Mystra, aid me." She says to herself as she attempts to ward off the magics it holds.

Sal, upon seeing this, quickly uses Detect Magic to check what is going on. Has it left a mark on her, or does this go deeper?
