As the interactions between the crew continues and day shifts into dusk and dinner, Bruz's 'Should have been a Mystery' meal is a big hit with the crew. A few of the unwise, less seasoned crew mates make the tragic mistake of asking what's in it and some of them are promptly feeding the fish with it's delicious substance. The other two people who want to try their hand at competing for the chef position look very uncertain, now but are still willing to give it shot.
OOC On a daily basis, if Bruz want's to keep trying new dishes on the crew, I will need a Cooking roll twice per day. If seas are rough that day there will be a variable penalty. If Bruz wants to stick to standard fare, no roll is needed.

Rook's eyes go wide with surprise as he drinks the 'water' from the water skin but he gulps it down, gasps a bit, drops his netting and wipes his chin before any spillage hits the deck. "Ah, oh, it's, ah, really good, actually. Thanks!" "So, ah, you look like you've done this before" as he looks at the man's muscles and tattoos. "What do I do now? Any advice in general? Father told me a lot but said I'd still have to learn every small thing for myself and to listen to everyone else on board. Although, he also said some would probably put me up to silly things that don't actually need doing but it was all in good fun and any sailor worth his salt, as I think you say (?), has gone through it and takes it well. Father also said that, ah, oh, never mind. Father also said I talk too much when I'm exited or nervous... or both. I'm not like this at school or work with others my age, you see, I'm actually pretty good with that but I've just always wanted to sail on a ship and, ah, oh, damn, oh!, sorry, I didn't mean to cuss, ah.... yeah." Rook stops talking suddenly with his final word and looks down at the floor, biting his lip.
Bruz puts on a more serious air as the kid goes on, "Only the most juvenile crews play such petty tricks. You'll see that this crew made of sterner stuff, the captain keeps a tight grip on his lads. Speaking of tasks though, I have a very important one for you to do. It could mean life or death in certain situations, but it's a bit tedious as all abyss so it's always left to the less ranking crew members, your da probably told you how it goes." Bruz goes to his chest and retrieves a piece of chalk, "Take this here. Go to the steerage deck, that's the one on the very bottom, and rap on the hull like this," he knocks on a wall nearby, "when it sounds a bit off like the knock I just did, that means there's a weakness in the hull. Mark it with an "X" so that the maintenance crew knows to pay particular attention to the spot so they're on top of any leaks before they start. Do that around the whole deck or until you run out of chalk than report to the bosun, that's the dwarf called Nimar, when you're finished so he can check your work with experienced eyes." Bruz hands him the chalk.
"Remember, listen for that peculiar knock, new ships like this one have a lot of weak points, so you'll probably run out of chalk before you finish the deck, but that's ok. Get along now lad, the sooner the better." Bruz knocks on the hull one more time in demonstration, then shoo's Rook off before he can ask any more questions. As he watches the lad run off, Bruz takes a swig of his aleskin with a huge grin on his face.

Maybe it is important. It makes sense, right? New ship and all... Ok, I'll get right to it, and if you're putting me on, at least it's a prank on Nimar too!" He runs off to the lowest deck and start knocking and marking. He writes 'really bad!' with an arrow on any parts that make an especially weird sound when he knocks, and otherwise makes quite a few X's. He tries to go quickly as he knows he will have duties up on the main deck soon, and heads back up to look for Nimar when the chalk runs out.
Eventually the young lad finds Nimar and exclaims "hello, master Nimar, sir". "I'm Gerruk, but you can call me Rook sir, if you please, that is, sir. I'm out of chalk, sir." He looks around to see if Bruz is in sight but otherwise just stairs and the dwarf expectantly.

Carolinas CON ST 5 dammit...
Carolinas sees Cubik come over to talk to him, Sal, and Bruz, but just as he comes over Carolinas turns and puts his head over the railing and vomits over the side. His owl Archimedes is hooting repeatedly as if it's laughing.
Sebastian strolls up next to Bruz after Rook heads off to the lower decks. ”Nice one, that’s much better than sendin’ ‘im to look for a rope stretcher. That was my plan for tomorrow hah.” Taking another spoonful of the evening meal he drops the wooden spoon back into the bowl and offers a handshake to the Half Orc. ”Sebastian Blackhand. Traveler of the open seas, and you are?”
"See ye on the open sea, brother!" Nimar patted on Cubik's shoulder with a heavy paw as he turned to retire for the evening. The bosun soon followed after depleting his pipe.

Nimar awoke early next morning. Seeing as there was little maintenance work to be done on the vessel from his inspection the day before, the dwarf allowed himself time to visit the High House of Wonders in the northern part of the city to beseech his god Gond, Lord of All Smiths, to bless him with the ability to perform well in his duties in the upcoming voyage.
By the time the boatswain returned, it was near time to embark. He gathered his carpenter's tools from his cabin before introducing himself properly to the team of sailors in his charge.
"I'm Nimar Spine – you can call me Master Spine – and I'll be yer bosun. I don'ee suffer any fools or lazy scallies, so ye do yer job and I expect ye t'do it well. Any questions? No? Good. Get to work!"
The Silken Keel soon set sail. -Blow me doon! She's a fast maiden!- The ship quickly reached its top speed of four knots, a speed that outpaced most of the harbour's fleet. Nimar put it down to the newness of the vessel and its design, but the test of it would be how well it faired on open water. The boatswain would soon have quite the task on his hands. He inspected the ship again.
"Bruz, wandering gladiator of the Tantalus Traveling Troupe." He replies as he shakes Sebastian's hand. "Aye, the rope stretcher is a good one as well, but the lad's too smart by half he just about figured it out. Oh well, that bosun will sort him, haven't spoke to the dwarf much, but he seems an alright sort. It's an interesting crew that's hired on the Keel, current company included." He says as he glances quickly at the man's mismatching gloves. "You seen the healer? Saw her stomping around in full scale armor first day aboard, glad she had the good sense to stow it. Armor like that just gets in the way if ye ain't fighting, plus a kind healer would know that seeing legs like that are healing for a sailor's soul after a couple months at sea." Bruz finishes while grinning conspiratorially at Sebastian. "Speaking of covering up, what's with the gloves, if you don't mind me asking? Knew some show fighters that wore stuff like that for costume, but you don't seem the type."
After Carolinas recovers from being nauseated, he cleans himself up and walks back over to Cubik, then says, "Sorry Master Dwarf, an old man is still getting his sea legs. Anyway, my name is Carolinas the Green Wizard and master of Illusions. What brings you aboard? Doesn't look like it's your first time at sea."
